The influences of imports of nutrients and planktonic algae from the River Spree on the dynamics of phytoplankton were examined in the shallow, eutrophic Müggelsee, which has a retention time of only 42 days. Phytoplankton biomass and nutrient concentrations were measured in both the lake and its inflow from 1980–1990. On a long-term average, mean biomass as well as vitality of most dominant phytoplankton populations in the lake were not significantly different from those in the river. Nevertheless, during distinct periods the external rates of biomass change of single lake populations (due to dilution or enrichment) were as high as the lake internal ones. The import of inocula populations from the river probably induced the formation of the typical community structure in the lake. Growth and decay of phytoplankton populations in the river strongly influenced the load of dissolved nutrients and thus indirectly the dynamics of planktonic algae in the downstream lake. For example, intensive assimilation of phosphorus by riverine algae in spring intensified the P-shortage and supported possible P-limitation of algal growth in the lake at that time. In years with high vernal biomass of centric diatoms in the river, and thus diminished import of dissolved silicon, the growth of diatoms was suppressed and that of cyanobacteria was favoured in the lake during summer.  相似文献

Oligochaetes from bottom surveys of the Rhine River from Lake Constance to the Dutch border were identified to species in order to specify the response of communities to river pollution and impoundment. In these preliminary surveys, 37 species of Naididae and Tubificidae were determined, far more than the few easily identifiable species normally identified from such surveys. These studies will allow comparison to the oligochaete populations of other large European river systems.  相似文献

Summary The electrical properties of the vacuolar membrane of the primitive green algaEremosphaera virdis were investigated using the patch-clamp technique. In whole vacuole measurements two types of transport systems with long activation time-constants were identified. The first, showing marked outward rectification, was activated by an increase in the cytosolic calcium concentration. Furthermore, it displayed sensitivity to micromolar concentrations of the anion channel blocker Zn2+ and to acidification of the cytosol. In contrast, the second time-activated current component was almost insensitive to changes in cytosolic pH and was blocked by the potassium channel inhibitor TEA. In addition to these slowly activating current components, the vacuolar membrane contained at least two further transport systems, responsible for an instantaneous current. These two current components were distinguished by their different sensitivity to protons, cytosolic calcium, and TEA. The regulation of the interactions between the actin binding proteins and the actin filaments are known to affect the cytoskeletal structure of F-actin. We develop a model depicting the formation of actin cytoskeleton, bundles and orthogonal networks, via activation or inactivation of different types of actin binding proteins. It is found that as the actin filament density increases in the cell, a spontaneous tendency to organize into bundles or networks occurs depending on the active actin binding protein concentration. Also, a minute change in the relative binding affinity of the actin binding proteins in the cell may lead to a major change in the actin cytoskeleton. Both the linear stability analysis and the numerical results indicate that the structures formed are highly sensitive to changes in the parameters, in particular to changes in the parameter ϕ, denoting the relative binding affinity and concentration of the actin binding proteins.  相似文献

In pigs, high variation is seen in the duration of estrus and in the time of ovulation. This is one of a wide range of factors not related to semen quality, which possibly influences the results of field insemination trials. Experiment 1 (n=81 gilts) was performed to determine the influence of the time of ovulation on the fertilizing capacity of liquid boar semen stored up to 118 h. The objective of Experiment 2 (n=102 gilts) was to study the fertilizing potential of semen stored up to 120 h in 2 different extenders, Androhep and Beltsville Thawing Solution (BTS), by means of postovulatory AI. Inseminations were performed 0 to 4 h after ovulation in order to standardize the trial conditions. Fertilization rates based on Day-2 to Day-4 embryos, and the number of accessory spermatozoa per zona pellucida did not differ between semen stored for 0 to 48 and 48 to 87 h in gilts ovulating within 12 after insemination (Experiment 1). Gilts with an interval of 12 to 24 h between AI and ovulation had lower fertility results using semen stored for more than 48 h. A further decrease was observed when semen storage exceeded 87 h in those gilts ovulating later than 24 h after insemination. The time of ovulation has to be considered as being a major factor of variation in the fertility results of AI trials. In Experiment 2, fertilization rates and numbers of accessory spermatozoa decreased between semen stored for 0 to 24 and 24 to 48 h in BTS, and between semen stored for 0 to 24 and 48 to 72 h in Androhep. Significant differences in fertility between diluents were seen only when using semen stored for more than 96 h, with semen extended with Androhep giving the higher results. The results indicate that the decrease in fertilizing capacity due to in vitro aging of spermatozoa cannot be prevented even during the first days of storage.  相似文献

We have approached the problem of MHC class II ligand motifs by pool sequencing natural peptides eluted from HLA-DR, DQ, and DP molecules. The results indicate surprisingly clear patterns, although not quite as clear as with natural class I ligands. The most striking feature is a highly dominant Proline at position 2. We interpret this to be a consequence of aminopeptidase N-like activity in processing. Another general aspect is the existence of three to four hydrophobic or aromatic anchors, whereby the first and the last are separated by five to eight residues. The peptide motifs for HLA-DR1, DR5, DQ7, and DPw4 are allele-specific and differ by spacing and occupancy of anchors. The anchors tend to be flanked by clusters of charged residues, and small residues, especially Ala, are frequent in the motif centers. These detailed motifs allow one to interpret most previous (DR-) motifs as fitting one or more of the anchors or conserved clusters. The relative motif symmetry suggests the possibility of bidirectional binding of peptides in the class II groove.  相似文献

The reduction by sulfide of exogenous ubiquinone is compared to the reduction of cytochromes in chromatophores of Rhodobacter capsulatus. From titrations with sulfide values for Vmax of 300 and 10 moles reduced/mg bacteriochlorophyll a·h, and for Km of 5 and 3 M were estimated, for decyl-ubiquinone-and cytochrome c-reduction, respectively. Both reactions are sensitive to KCN, as has been found for sulfide-quinone reductase (SQR) in Oscillatoria limnetica, which is a flavoprotein. Gold-labeled insulin is bound first of all to the cilia of the oral field of Tetrahymena. A primary treatment (hormonal imprinting) with insulin increases the binding capacity even after 24h and makes it more sensitive for appearance a week later, within a minute of giving insulin-gold. The food vacuoles contain insulin-gold in pretreated cells or without pretreatment as well, though in imprinted situations the label can be found in pinocytotic vesicles at the bases of cilia in the oral field. Altogether, a functional difference can be observed between the cilia of the oral and non-oral surfaces of Tetrahymena and hormonal imprinting has a specifying effect on the binding of labeled hormone.  相似文献
