Previous studies have suggested that short-term whole-body vibration (WBV) training produces neuromuscular improvement similar to that of power and strength training. However, it is yet to be determined whether short-term WBV exposure produces neurogenic enhancement for power, speed, and agility. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect short-term WBV training had on vertical jump, sprint, and agility performance in nonelite athletes. Twenty-four sport science students (16 men and 8 women) were randomly assigned to 2 groups: WBV training or control. Each group included 8 men and 4 women. Countermovement jump (CMJ) height, squat jump (SJ) height, sprint speed over 5, 10, and 20 m, and agility (505, up and back) were performed by each participant before and after 9 days of either no training (control) or WBV training. Perceived discomfort of every participant was recorded after daily WBV exposure and nonexposure. There were no significant differences between WBV and control groups for CMJ, SJ, sprints, and agility. Perceived discomfort differed between the first and subsequent days of WBV training (p < 0.05); however, there was no difference between the WBV and control groups. It is concluded that short-term WBV training did not enhance performance in nonelite athletes.  相似文献

This investigation demonstrates the use of substitution-inert metal ions as site-specific amino acid modifying reagents. The approach involves the production of a chelating agent at the site of interest with the subsequent in situ oxidation of substitution-labile cobalt(II) to exchange-inert cobalt(III) with H2O2. We have produced the chelate complex ethylenediamine-N,N'-diacetato(arsanilazotyrosinato-248 carboxypeptidase A)cobalt(III) [CoIII(EDDA)(AA-CPA-Zn)]. Model CoIII(EDDA)(azophenolate) complexes have helped to define the reaction conditions necessary to produce the enzyme derivative and have proved invaluable in the spectral analysis of the cobalt(III)-enzyme complex. The modified enzyme contains one active-site zinc and one externally bound cobalt per enzyme monometer. Circular dichroism and visible spectra of the derivative and apoenzyme substantiate the site-specific nature of the incorporation. Concimitant with CoIIIEDDA incorporation, the enzyme loses its peptidase activity yet maintains with FeIIEDTA returns the original properties of the arsanilazotyrosine-248 enzyme.  相似文献

IntroductionMicrochimeric male fetal cells (MFCs) have been associated with systemic lupus erythematosus, and published studies have further correlated MFC with lupus nephritis (LN). In the present study, we evaluated the frequency of MFC in the renal tissue of patients with LN.MethodsTwenty-seven renal biopsies were evaluated: Fourteen were from women with clinical and laboratory findings of LN, and thirteen were from controls. Genomic DNA was extracted from kidney biopsies, and the male fetal DNA was quantified using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reactions for the detection of specific Y chromosome sequences.ResultsMFCs were detected in 9 (64%) of 14 of patients with LN, whereas no MFCs were found in the control group (P = 0.0006). No differences in pregnancy history were found between patients with LN and the control group. Significantly higher amounts of MFCs were found in patients with LN with serum creatinine ≤1.5 mg/dl. Furthermore, women with MFCs had significantly better renal function at the time of biopsy (P = 0.03). In contrast, patients with LN without MFCs presented with more severe forms of glomerulonephritis (World Health Organization class IV = 60% and class V = 40%).ConclusionsOur data indicate a high prevalence of MFCs in renal biopsy specimens from women with LN, suggesting a role for MFCs in the etiology of LN. The present report also provides some evidence that MFCs could have a beneficial effect in this disease.

The effect of different cellulosic growth substrates on the production of cellulolytic enzymes by Trichoderma reesei was investigated. It was observed that growth on Avicel, Solka Floc and wheat straw produced different pH/time profiles in cultures. Over a range of controlled pH it was demonstrated that the production of cellulolytic and xylanolytic activity by T. reesei is dependent on culture pH and the type of growth substrate. The effect of pH on enzyme production varies with the nature of the growth substrate. Furthermore, it was shown that the optimum culture pH and growth substrate for the production of enzyme preparations for the extensive saccharification of cellulosic materials depends on the type of material to be saccharified.  相似文献

Objective To determine whether occupational therapy focused specifically on personal activities of daily living improves recovery for patients after stroke.Design Systematic review and meta-analysis.Data sources The Cochrane stroke group trials register, the Cochrane central register of controlled trials, Medline, Embase, CINAHL, PsycLIT, AMED, Wilson Social Sciences Abstracts, Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation, Arts and Humanities Citation Index, Dissertations Abstracts register, Occupational Therapy Research Index, scanning reference lists, personal communication with authors, and hand searching.Review methods Trials were included if they evaluated the effect of occupational therapy focused on practice of personal activities of daily living or where performance in such activities was the target of the occupational therapy intervention in a stroke population. Original data were sought from trialists. Two reviewers independently reviewed each trial for methodological quality. Disagreements were resolved by consensus.Results Nine randomised controlled trials including 1258 participants met the inclusion criteria. Occupational therapy delivered to patients after stroke and targeted towards personal activities of daily living increased performance scores (standardised mean difference 0.18, 95% confidence interval 0.04 to 0.32, P=0.01) and reduced the risk of poor outcome (death, deterioration or dependency in personal activities of daily living) (odds ratio 0.67, 95% confidence interval 0.51 to 0.87, P=0.003). For every 100 people who received occupational therapy focused on personal activities of daily living, 11 (95% confidence interval 7 to 30) would be spared a poor outcome.Conclusions Occupational therapy focused on improving personal activities of daily living after stroke can improve performance and reduce the risk of deterioration in these abilities. Focused occupational therapy should be available to everyone who has had a stroke.  相似文献
