Single visit endodontics offers many advantages over multi visit treatment. Therefore, it is of interest to assess the preference of single visit over multiple visit root canals. We used 86,000 patient records and selected 9017 records matching the inclusion criteria for the analysis using statistical tools (Chi square test at p value <0.05). Data shows that people between 26 to 45 years are often affected with dental caries. Available data is biased towards multi visits rather than single visit regardless number of canals. 相似文献

An optimally functional brain requires both excitatory and inhibitory inputs that are regulated and balanced. A perturbation in the excitatory/inhibitory balance—as is the case in some neurological disorders/diseases (e.g. traumatic brain injury Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, epilepsy and substance abuse) and disorders of development (e.g. schizophrenia, Rhett syndrome and autism spectrum disorder)—leads to dysfunctional signaling, which can result in impaired cognitive and motor function, if not frank neuronal injury. At the cellular level, transmission of glutamate and GABA, the principle excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters in the central nervous system control excitatory/inhibitory balance. Herein, we review the synthesis, release, and signaling of GABA and glutamate followed by a focused discussion on the importance of their transport systems to the maintenance of excitatory/inhibitory balance. 相似文献

The analysis of genetic structure is an important tool for the management of harvested and threatened species. Individual clustering methods and tests of Isolation by Distance (IBD) are currently used in this context. They have been applied to the red coral Corallium rubrum but some questions remained due to contrasted results among studies and limits in their interpretations. In this study, we used simulated and empirical data for a better understanding of the genetic structure in this species. We tested the impact of IBD between demes, sampling scheme and of clustering methods (BAPS, STRUCTURE or DAPC) on the inferred structure. By matching simulated scenarios to the empirical data, we first confirm that the genetic structure of the red coral is characterized by a combination between IBD and weak genetic breaks. Then, we demonstrate how the sampling scheme influences the results of the clustering methods. We also reveal the contrasted efficiencies of these methods to recover real demes or groups of demes in a context of IBD. Overall, our study underline the interest of comparing the results of different clustering methods and of using simulated data for interpreting empirical genetical data. 相似文献

Recent efforts to translate basic research to the treatment of clinical disorders have led to a growing interest in exploring mechanisms for diminishing fear. This research has emphasized two approaches: extinction of conditioned fear, examined across species; and cognitive emotion regulation, unique to humans. Here, we sought to examine the similarities and differences in the neural mechanisms underlying these two paradigms for diminishing fear. Using an emotion regulation strategy, we examine the neural mechanisms of regulating conditioned fear using fMRI and compare the resulting activation pattern with that observed during classic extinction. Our results suggest that the lateral PFC regions engaged by cognitive emotion regulation strategies may influence the amygdala, diminishing fear through similar vmPFC connections that are thought to inhibit the amygdala during extinction. These findings further suggest that humans may have developed complex cognition that can aid in regulating emotional responses while utilizing phylogenetically shared mechanisms of extinction. 相似文献

The plantar soft tissue is the primary means of physical interaction between a person and the ground during locomotion. Dynamic loads greater than body weight are borne across the entire plantar surface during each step. However, most testing of these tissues has concentrated on the structural properties of the heel pad. The purpose of this study was to determine the material properties of the plantar soft tissue from six locations beneath: the great toe (subhallucal), the 1st, 3rd and 5th metatarsal heads (submetatarsal), the lateral midfoot (lateral submidfoot) and the heel (subcalcaneal). We obtained specimens from these locations from 11 young, non-diabetic donors; the tissue was cut into 2 cm x 2 cm blocks and the skin was removed. Stress relaxation experiments were conducted and the data were fit using the quasi-linear viscoelastic (QLV) theory. To determine tissue modulus, energy loss and the effect of test frequency, we also conducted displacement controlled triangle waves at five frequencies ranging from 0.005 to 10 Hz. The subcalcaneal tissue was found to have an increased relaxation time compared to the other areas. The subcalcaneal tissue was also found to have an increased modulus and decreased energy loss compared to the other areas. Across all areas, the modulus and energy loss increased for the 1 and 10 Hz tests compared to the other testing frequencies. This study is the first to generate material properties for all areas of the plantar soft tissue, demonstrating that the subcalcaneal tissue is different than the other plantar soft tissue areas. These data will have implications for foot computational modeling efforts and potentially for orthotic pressure reduction devices. 相似文献

Although oxidative stress has been implicated in development of gut pathologies, its role in intestinal fat transport has not been investigated. We assessed the effect of Fe(2+)-ascorbate-mediated lipid peroxidation on lipid synthesis, apolipoprotein biogenesis, and lipoprotein assembly and secretion. Incubation of postconfluent Caco-2 cells with iron(II)-ascorbate (0.2 mM/2 mM) in the apical compartment significantly promoted malondialdehyde formation without affecting sucrase activity, transepithelial resistance, DNA and protein content, and cell viability. However, addition of the oxygen radical-generating system reduced 1) [(14)C]oleic acid incorporation into cellular triglycerides (15%, P < 0.0002) and phospholipids (16%, P < 0.0005); 2) de novo synthesis of cellular apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) (18%, P < 0.05), apo A-IV (38%, P < 0.05), and apo B-48 (45%, P < 0.003) after [(35)S]methionine addition; and 3) production of chylomicrons (50%), VLDL (40%), LDL (37%), and HDL (30%) (all P < 0.0001). In contrast, increased total cellular cholesterol formation (96%, P < 0.0001), assayed by [(14)C]acetate incorporation, was noted, attributable to marked elevation (70%, P < 0.04) in activity of DL-3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol synthesis. The ratio of Acyl-CoA to cholesterol acyltransferase, the esterifying cholesterol enzyme, remained unchanged.
