Abstract

Phosphorus (P) is the most important macronutrient next to nitrogen for the growth and development of plants. But often unavailable for plants because of its high reactivity with many soil constituents. Thus, the use of phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSBs) as biofertilizers seems to be an effective way to resolve the soluble phosphorus availability in soil. The present study was conducted to isolate and characterize rock PSB associated with the rhizosphere of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) from fourteen different wheat-growing sites of Meknes region in Morocco. A total of one hundred ninety-eight (198) rock PSBs were isolated employing NBRIP medium amended with rock phosphate (RP), out of which five strains (A17, A81, B26, B106, and B107) were selected for their strong ability to dissolve RP and were tested in vitro for plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits including production of indole acetic acid (IAA), siderophores, hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and antifungal activity, as well as their response to the effect of extrinsic and intrinsic stress. The 16S rRNA gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis identified these isolates belong to four genera, Pantoea, Pseudomonas, Serratia, and Enterobacter. The phosphate solubilization index (SI) of selected isolates ranged between 2.3 and 2.7, and the amount of solubilized phosphorus in the liquid medium varied from 59.1 to 90.2 µg mL?1. HPLC analysis revealed that all the selected isolates produced multiple organic acids (oxalic, citric, gluconic succinic, and fumaric acids) from glucose under aerobic conditions. Except for the A81 strain, all selected isolates were able to produce IAA ranging between 2.9 and 21.2 µg mL?1. The isolates A17, B26, and B107 showed the ability to produce siderophores ranging from 79.3 to 20.8% siderophore units. Only two strains (A17 and B26) were able to produce HCN. All selected isolates showed good resistance against different environmental stresses like 10–50?°C temperature, 0.5–2?g L?1 salt concentration and 4.5–9?pH range, and against different antibiotics. The antagonistic effect showed that among the five selected strains, only two strains (B26 and A17) were able to suppress the growth of tested fungi. This study clearly indicates that our selected rock PSBs can be used as biofertilizers for grain crops after studying their interaction with the host crop and field evaluation.  相似文献

The sea urchin, Echinometra lucunter, is consumed in restaurants in Europe and Asia for high prices. This study evaluated the use of the essential oil of Lippia alba (EOL) as a sedative and anesthetic in this sea urchin. Different EOL concentrations were tested (50, 100 and 150 μL L?1), in addition to a group that received ethanol and a control group. After the anesthesia and recovery from the different treatments, the coelomic fluid, gonads and intestine were collected for the analysis of oxidative stress parameters. The highest concentration tested (150 μL L?1) was determined to be the optimal concentration for anesthesia. Results suggest that EOL improved the response to oxidative stress, since a lower level of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances and greater superoxide dismutase and catalase activities were observed in the coelomic fluid and E. lucunter gonads, making the EOL a promising anesthetic for sea urchins.  相似文献

Radiation induced morphea (RIM) is an increasingly common complication of radiation treatment for malignancy as early detection has made more patients eligible for non-surgical treatment options. In many cases, the radiation oncologist is the first person to learn of the initial skin changes, often months before a dermatologist sees them. In this paper we present a breast cancer patient who developed a rare bullous variant of RIM, which delayed her diagnosis and subsequent treatment. It is imperative to diagnose RIM early as it carries significant morbidity and permanent deformity if left untreated. The lesions typically present within 1 year of radiation therapy and extend beyond the radiated field. RIM is often mistaken for radiation dermatitis or cellulitis. Bullae, when present, are often hemorrhagic in appearance, which can serve as another clinical clue. It is important to refer these patients for a full gynecologic exam as there can be concurrent anogenital lichen sclerosus et atrophicus which is both debilitating and carries a long term risk for squamous cell carcinoma. Treatment with systemic agents is often necessary, and can be managed by a dermatologist. The most proven regimen in the literature appears to be methotrexate, with our without concurrent narrow band UVB phototherapy.  相似文献

This experiment was carried out in pots in a greenhouse to evaluate the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Funneliformis mosseae, Rhizophagus intraradices and Rhizophagus fasciculatus) on carob plant performance under different levels of phosphate fertilization. Non-mycorrhizal (NMyc) and mycorrhizal (Myc) carob plants were subjected to three levels of phosphate fertilization, L1 (0 mg P kg−1 soil), L2 (25 mg P kg−1 soil) and L3 (100 mg P kg−1 soil). Results showed that under L1 and L2 P-fertilization levels, arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis significantly improved growth and biomass production of carob plants. Moreover, mineral nutrient (P, K, Na and Ca) acquisition, photosynthetic activity (Fv/Fm), stomatal conductance, total chlorophyll content, and soluble sugar accumulation were also strongly improved in Myc plants in comparison with NMyc ones. Under L1 P-fertilization level, Myc plants showed strongly increased acid phosphatase activity in roots and in the rhizospheric soil than NMyc plants. Furthermore, Myc plants maintained high membrane integrity (over 80%) and low hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, associated with increased activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (G-POD), and catalase (CAT) compared to NMyc plants. However, high phosphorus input (L3) negatively affected root colonization and mycorrhizal plant performance. Thus, carob plants associated with Funneliformis mosseae performed best under phosphorus deficiency and were the least sensitive to the variations of phosphorus input levels.

The plant microbiota can affect host fitness via the emission of microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) that influence growth and development. However, evidence of these molecules and their effects in plants from arid ecosystems is limited. We screened the mVOCs produced by 40 core and representative members of the microbiome of agaves and cacti in their interaction with Arabidopsis thaliana and Nicotiana benthamiana. We used SPME‐GC‐MS to characterize the chemical diversity of mVOCs and tested the effects of selected compounds on growth and development of model and host plants. Our study revealed that approximately 90% of the bacterial strains promoted plant growth both in Athaliana and Nbenthamiana. Bacterial VOCs were mainly composed of esters, alcohols, and S‐containing compounds with 25% of them not previously characterized. Remarkably, ethyl isovalerate, isoamyl acetate, 3‐methyl‐1‐butanol, benzyl alcohol, 2‐phenylethyl alcohol, and 3‐(methylthio)‐1‐propanol, and some of their mixtures, displayed beneficial effects in Athaliana and also improved growth and development of Agave tequilana and Agave salmiana in just 60 days. Volatiles produced by bacteria isolated from agaves and cacti are promising molecules for the sustainable production of crops in arid and semi‐arid regions.  相似文献

Immunosuppressive drugs can compromise local or general defense mechanisms and can lead to oral candidiasis. Ozone therapy has a wide range of applications in almost every field of dentistry. Its unique properties include immunostimulant, analgesic, antihypnotic, detoxicating, and antimicrobial actions. Sixty male healthy rats were immunosuppressed with dexamethasone in their drinking water one week before candida infection. The animals were divided into four equal groups. Rats of group 1 were kept without any manipulation and those of group II were given oral inoculums of C. albicans on the dorsal surface of the tongue. Group III rats were handled as group II and instead the rats were treated by daily mycostatin drops local applicator as a routine treatment. Meanwhile, group IV rats were handled as group II and instead the rats were received daily intraperitoneal injection of 1 cm3 of ozone oxygen gas mixture with concentration of ozone 70 μg/cm3. After two weeks, all rats were euthanized and tongue specimens were prepared for histological staining with Haematoxylin & Eosin and CD3 immunohistochemical staining. Histological examination revealed that treatment with ozone therapy lead to gradual decrease in lingual papillary atrophy and invasion of candida yeast. Immunohistochemical study showed significant decrease in CD3 counting. We can conclude that ozone acts as an excellent fungicidal agent also, ozone is capable of alerting the immune system.  相似文献

The commensal microbiota plays an important role in the well-being of the host organism, and it would be worthwhile to know the tenacious communities among them. Therefore, a study was undertaken to examine the changes in constitution of the intestinal microbiota of wild fish consequential to captivity. At first, the composition of intestinal microorganisms of Atlantic cod caught from the coastal area off Bod?, Norway, was examined. Thereafter, the changes in the bacterial community of the captive fish after offering them artificial feed or subjecting them to starvation were studied. The microbiota from the intestinal contents and wall segments were analyzed quantitatively by spread plate technique and DAPI staining and qualitatively by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. The study revealed that the counts of intestinal microbes in wild-caught Atlantic cod were not affected by captive rearing for 6?weeks, either when fed or when starved. However, the diversity of intestinal bacterial community was reduced in response to artificial feeding, whereas the change was restricted upon starvation.  相似文献

Totally 341 outdoors air samples were taken by Casella Airborne Sampler at a height of 7 m in the Allergy Centre of Kuwait between 1986 and 1988. Bacillus was detected in 85.3% of the samples. Micrococcus (71.3%), Staphylococcus albus (65.4%). Gram-positive rods (53.4%) were more prevalent than gram-negative rods (23.7%). Higher counts were seen in 1986 (500 CFU m?3) compared to 1987 (407 CFU m?3) and 1988 (369 CFU m?3). Relatively higher counts were seen in August and September and a smaller peak was found in February and March. The correlation between the various types was always positive and was frequently highly significant. High counts were seen with strong winds. Among the meteorological factors, wind speed was the only significant factor. High average of bacteria counts were found when winds were blowing from the land (574 CFU m?3) compared with the sea (346.5 CFU m?3). Higher average counts were observed in the days with sand storms (1769 CFU m?3), with rising sand (534.8 CFU m?3) and the other days with dust phenomena, compared with clear weather (317 CFU m?3).  相似文献

Summary Nerve fibres of the neurosecretory hypothalamo-hypophyseal tract were studied in embryonic C3H mouse neural lobes; at least four glands at each gestational day 15–19 were examined.Single axons and small bundles of fibres are visible at gestational days 15 and 16. By day 17 large fibre bundles penetrate between glial cells. They increase in number during the next two days.Electron-lucent and electron-dense vesicles are seen in the fibres of the 15th and 16th gestational days. In the 17–19 day-old embryos development is characterized by a successive rise in the number of the two types of vesicles. The mean diameter of the electron-lucent vesicles is approximately unchanged in all the stages examined (50 nm). The electron-dense vesicles increase in size from approximately 80–90 nm at days 15–16 to 140 nm at the 19th gestational day.By day 19 contacts between neurosecretory fibre terminals and the outer basement membrane of internal and peripheral capillaries are occasionally observed. The possibly adrenergic nature of a few terminals contacting peripheral vascular structures in 17 and 18 day-old embryos is suggested.This investigation was supported by grant No. 2180-020 from the Swedish Natural Science Research Council.
