Trophoblastin, an antiluteolytic component from the embryo, was identified in the ewe by the means of intrauterine injections of homogenates from trophoblasts at 14--16 days pregnancy. Homogenates from embryos and their membranes at 21--23 days pregnancy did not extend the life of the corpus luteum, suggesting that trophoblastin synthesis occurs for only a short period. The trophoblastin was thermolabile (80 degrees C for 30 min) and inactivated by pronase. Treatment of ewes with oCS, hCG, and extracts of 120-day placentae did not affect the time of luteolysis. The protein appears to be insoluble at pH 7 or 8, but to dissolve readily at pH 9.6. After injection of homogenates or extracts from 15--16-day-old trophoblasts, the initial CL were maintained for more than 1 month in most cyclic recipient ewes. Surgical removal of embryos at 21--23 days resulted in luteal maintenace for more than 1 month in over 50% of the operated animals. All the maintained CL were secretory although their average weight was about one-half of that CL of normal pregnancy, suggesting the existence of complementary luteotrophic placental factors. The uteri of most of these pseudopregnant ewes were distended with a clear, sterile fluid.  相似文献

The in vitro development of Candida albicans is inhibited in presence of 1-propanol and 2-propanol at minimum doses determined in the present work. For these inhibiting doses, associations with 400 polyethylene glycol which generally enhances yeast filamentation proved that this polyol is no longer able to maintain cellular development.  相似文献

Twenty-four subjects were tested on their ability to discriminate between the presence and absence of negative skin potential responses before and after training to control skin potential. Training consisted of 52 discrete 30-second trials during which subjects were asked either to increase or to inhibit palmar sweating. Subjects in groups N and P were provided with analogue feedback on their skin potential activity. Group N was correctly informed that increases in sweating were indicated by increases in the negativity of skin potential; group P was misinformed that these were indicated by increases in the positivity of skin potential. Subjects in the control (C) group received no feedback. Reliable evidence of discrimination was obtained only in groups N and P, following training. However, reliable evidence of control was obtained only in group N. Thus, training to control skin potential led to an ability to identify afferentation associated with the more common (i.e., negative) skin potential responses, even though biofeedback training appeared unsuccessful in the case of group P. These findings are discussed in the context of "discrimination" or "awareness" accounts of the process of acquiring control of internal response.  相似文献

Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) have basal levels of plasma renin activity (PRA) lower than the ones observed in normal Sprague Dawley rats. Three beta blocking agents are orally administered to unanesthetized spontaneously hypertensive and normotensive rats. Propranolol and S 464 reduce PRA in spontaneously hypertensive and normotensive control rats. Pindolol do not lower PRA in normotensive rats but increases levels of PRA in spontaneously hypertensive rats. These results are discussed.  相似文献

The alpha 2-antagonist idazoxan (IDZ) has previously been shown to inhibit hyperprolactinaemia triggered by various stimuli such as lactation, stress, serotonergic agents and morphine (Preziosi, Martire, Navarra, Pistritto and Vacca 1989; Krulich, Jurcovicova and Le 1989). In this study, we investigated the PRL-lowering activity of IDZ in ovariectomized estrogen-treated (OET) rats; since a PRL surge usually occurs in normal cycling rats on the day of proestrus, the effect of IDZ on pulsatile PRL release in intact female rats was also studied. IDZ significantly lowered plasma PRL levels in OET rats; no elevated PRL values were observed in normal cycling rats, indicating that IDZ might inhibit PRL surges in these animals. It is concluded that IDZ is an effective PRL-lowering agent in a number of physiological and pharmacological hyperprolactinaemic models.  相似文献

Summary The influence of various storage solutions and temperature (4°C and 25°C) on viability ofStreptococcus salivarius subsp.thermophilus andLactobacillusdelbrueckii subsp.bulgaricus entrapped in κ-carrageenan-locust bean gum mixed gel beads was studied. The immobilized strains could be stored at 4°C in all storage solutions studied for at least 14 and 11 days respectively before counts decreased to 105c.f.u./mL, which was considered to be the practical limit for their use as inoculum in a fermentation process. The most effective storage solutions for preserving cell viability at 4°C were NaCl, glycerol and sorbitol solutions forS. thermophilus, and PO4 buffer and sorbitol solutions forL. bulgaricus. At 25°C,S. thermophilus could be stored for over 14 days in all solutions except glycerol, andL. bulgaricus for 4 days in 10% sorbitol.  相似文献

The role of a direct or a hypophysis-mediated influence of increased testosterone levels in the effects of a long-term high-dose HCG administration (10 IU/day) upon the 7 alpha-hydroxylation and 5 alpha-reduction activities of incubated testes of mature rats was investigated. Administration of high doses of HCG to hypophysectomized rats resulted in the same metabolic changes as in normal rats, namely, a large decrease in the 7 alpha-hydroxylation and an increase in the 5 alpha-reduction processes. Administration of testosterone-propionate (0.2 mg and 20 mg/day) for several days to hypophysectomized rats and to normal rats receiving and substitutive dose of 1 IU HCG/day, did not modify the testicular metabolization pattern. These findings indicate that the decrease in testicular 7 alpha-hydroxylation activity induced by long-term administration of high doses of HCG is probably not mediated by the hypophysis nor by the extracellular testosterone levels.  相似文献

Using a battery of seven lectin-ferritin conjugates as probes for cell surface glycoconjugates, we have studied the pattern of plasmalemmal differentiation of cells in the embryonic rat pancreas from day 15 in utero to the early postpartum stage. Our results indicate that differentiation of plasmalemmal glycoconjugates on acinar, endocrine, and centroacinar cells is temporally correlated with development and is unique for each cell type, as indicated by lectin-ferritin binding. Specifically, (a) expression of adult cell surface saccharide phenotype can be detected on presumptive acinar cells as early as 15 d in utero, as indicated by soybean agglutinin binding, and precedes development of intracellular organelles characteristic of mature acinar cells; (b) maturation of the plasmalemma of acinar cells is reached after intracellular cytodifferentiation is completed, as indicated by appearance of Con A and fucoselectin binding sites only at day 19 of development; conversely, maturation of the endocrine cell plasmalemma is accompanied by "loss" (masking) of ricinus communis II agglutinin receptors; and (c) binding sites for fucose lectins and for soybean agglutinin are absent on endocrine and centroacinar cells at all stages examined. We conclude that acinar, centroacinar, and endocrine cells develop from a common progenitor cell(s) whose plasmalemmal carbohydrate composition resembles most closely that of the adult centroacinar cell. Finally, appearance of acinar lumina beginning at approximately 17 d in utero is accompanied by differenetiation of apical and basolateral plasmalemmal domains of epithelial cells, as indicated by enhanced binding of several lectin-ferritin conjugates to the apical plasmalemmal, a pattern that persists from this stage through adult life.  相似文献

Incubations of testes of adult rats with testosterone yield rather important amounts of a very polar metabolite which is identified as 7α-hydroxytestosterone.
