The predominant sulfated polysaccharide, ?-carrageenan, was localized in the middle lamella of epidermal, cortical and medullary cells of Eucheumanudum J. Agardh. Autoradiographic studies with 35SO4= indicated that the label was first incorporated in the inner wall and ultimately deposited in the middle lamella of all cells, and in an outer wall layer of the epidermal cells. There was no evidence for cytoplasmic incorporation of the label. The middle lamella stained with alcian blue, was γ-metachromatic with toluidina blue O and bound diaminobenzidine-osmium tetroxide. This region was also positive with periodic acid-Schiff's (PAS) ragent, possibly demonstrating cellulose and/or a nonsulfated precursor of ?-carrageenan. A proposed model for extracellular sulfation includes production and secretion of a nonsulfated polygalactan and sulfotransferase enzyme(s) by the golgi apparatus and endoplasmic reticulum, respectively. Free sulfate in the wall would be bound to the precursor polysaccharide, with much of the resulting carrageenan migrating to the middle lamella facilitating mutual cell growth. 相似文献

Phosphonoacetaldehyde hydrolase (EC 3.11.1.1), the bacterial enzyme that catalyses the reaction HCO-CH2-PO(OH)2+H2O leads to HCO-CH3+Pi, is inactivated by borohydride if either phosphonoacetaldehyde or acetaldehyde is present. This supports the suggestion that the substrate forms an imine with an amino group of the enzyme. A number of surface residues of cytochrome c(6) from the cyanobacterium Anabaena sp. PCC 7119 have been modified by site-directed mutagenesis. Changes were made in six amino acids, two near the heme group (Val-25 and Lys-29) and four in the positively charged patch (Lys-62, Arg-64, Lys-66, and Asp-72). The reactivity of mutants toward the membrane-anchored complex photosystem I was analyzed by laser flash absorption spectroscopy. The experimental results indicate that cytochrome c(6) possesses two areas involved in the redox interaction with photosystem I: 1) a positively charged patch that may drive its electrostatic attractive movement toward photosystem I to form a transient complex and 2) a hydrophobic region at the edge of the heme pocket that may provide the contact surface for the transfer of electrons to P(700). Positive or negative prey abundance covariances play an important role in determining prey preference of predators. The goal here was to understand how variations in abundance of two blowfly prey species, a native and a non-native species, influence the switching behavior and functional response of Chrysomya albiceps, an intraguild predatory blowfly, under laboratory conditions. The results suggest C. albiceps prefers to consume a native prey species rather than a non-native prey species. However, when prey densities covariate negatively, both species were consumed at the same rate, changing predator’s functional response from type II to type III.
