Postspawning survival in lacustrine sock-eyed salmon Oncorhynchus nerka Walb

The state of gonads, age, structure of scales, and size of specimens of the resident lacustrine form of sock-eyed salmon—kokanee Onchorhynchus nerka—are analyzed. In stocked, previously fishless, lakes, there are specimens that have survived spawning and have remained active for a year or several years. No evidence was found of the possibility of repeated spawning. Thus, such fish do not belong to the spawning stock of the population, and their ecological function is not clear.     

Age-related characteristics of intraorganic vascular structures of the cerebral cortex, heart, kidneys and spleen in rats in the normal state and in arterial hypertension

The work has been performed on 40 normotensive and spontaneously hypertensive rats at the age of 6 months-1 year. In all the organs studied a direct dependence between the degree of changes in the intraorganic arterial walls and a relative content of the arterial vessels in the organ tissues has been revealed. The functional changes of the arterial bed of the organs mentioned in spontaneously hypertensive rats during hypertensive phase at the stage of stable hypertension, as a result of a prolonged adaptation transform into organic ones.     

Turnover of chromatin-bound and membrane lipids in the liver and thymus of gamma-irradiated rats

The turnover of nuclear and chromatin lipids from the liver and thymus of control and irradiated rats was studied by the incorporation of [14C]acetate. The chromatin-bound lipids were shown to possess a high metabolic activity which was especially well-pronounced in thymus cells. The higher specific radioactivity of the chromatin-bound lipids in comparison with that of intact nuclear lipids points to the structural uncoupling of chromatin lipids from other nuclear lipids.
