湖南株洲晚白垩世恐龙化石的初步研究   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
我国南方上白垩统产丰富的恐龙蛋化石,但发现的恐龙骨骼化石的种类和数量相对较少。本文对湖南株洲天元区新发现的恐龙化石进行详细研究。初步分析结果表明该化石点恐龙种类丰富,可能包括至少两种蜥脚类、三种兽脚类和一种鸭嘴龙类。其中部分蜥脚类材料可能归属于梁龙超科,填补了该类群在东亚上白垩统的空白记录;一个蜥脚类坐骨则显示泰坦巨龙类的典型特征。兽脚类材料可能来自于小型的虚骨龙类、暴龙科和鲨齿龙科。前两者为晚白垩世的常见类群,而鲨齿龙科的化石记录在上白垩统非常少见。本文为鲨齿龙科可能在东亚一直延伸至晚白垩世提供了新的证据。该地区多门类恐龙化石的发现表明我国南方恐龙的种类可能比我们想象的要丰富得多,而且可能是梁龙类和鲨齿龙类的最后栖息地。株洲恐龙动物群的发现对于了解亚洲特别是中国恐龙的生物地理区系的分布具有重要意义。  相似文献

Cell and gene therapy products are rapidly being integrated into mainstream medicine. Developing global capability will facilitate broad access to these novel therapeutics. An initial step toward achieving this goal is to understand cell and gene therapy manufacturing capability in each region. We conducted an academic survey in 2018 to assess cell and gene therapy manufacturing capacity in Australia and New Zealand. We examined the following: the number and types of cell therapy manufacturing facilities; the number of projects, parallel processes and clinical trials; the types of products; and the manufacturing and quality staffing levels. It was found that Australia and New Zealand provide diverse facilities for cell therapy manufacturing, infrastructure and capability. Further investment and development will enable both countries to make important decisions to meet the growing need for cell and gene therapy and regenerative medicine in the region.  相似文献

Antler lengths were recorded of a total of 250 male fallow deer (Dama dama (L)). Animals sampled were from marked populations where the majority of individuals were of known age. Asymmetry in antler length was normally distributed with a mean not significantly different from zero, confirming that differences in length between the antler pair constitute a true fluctuating asymmetry (FA). We found no clear relationship between the degree of asymmetry in antler length of an individual male and either population density or actual body mass. We did, however, detect a significant relationship between asymmetry and deviation from maximum cohort bodyweight. If deviation from maximum weight within a cohort may be considered some index of competitive success or increasing environmental stress, this may suggest that asymmetry in antler length relates in some way to developmental stress suffered by the individual concerned. The degree of asymmetry recorded in antler length also showed a significant decline with animal age, with antlers of animals of 2 years or older showing significantly greater symmetry. This is consistent with a hypothesis that despite continued competition for resources, there is a changing balance of selection pressure as animals reach maturity, with increased pressure from sexual selection requiring males to produce significantly more symmetrical ornaments.  相似文献

It may be that land-races of sorghum (Sorghum sp.) and millet[Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke] which evolved along geographicalgradients of rainfall in Africa and India, differ in their droughtresistance. Any physiological attributes found to be correlatedwith low rainfall might be important and effective characteristicsfor crop production in dry regions. Twenty land-races were chosen which evolved along geographicalgradients of rainfall, seven millets from India, six sorghumsfrom Mali, and seven sorghums from the Sudan. Races were evaluatedfor their growth potential and plant water relations under hydroponicsconditions in a growth chamber. A water stress treatment wasimposed by adding polyethylene glycol-8000 to the nutrient solution,giving a solute water potential of -0.5 MPa, compared with acontrol solution at 003 MPa. Drought resistance, in terms of relatively less growth inhibitionunder stress, was higher in races from dry regions than in racesfrom humid regions. Of all the physiological variables measured[carbon exchange rate, (CER), transpiration, transpiration ratio(CER/transpiration), leaf diffusive resistance, leaf water potentialand osmotic adjustment], only osmotic adjustment under stresswas generally correlated with average rainfall at each race'sorigin, indicating greater osmotic adjustment in land-racesfrom drier regions. Races with a greater capacity for osmoticadjustment were characterized by smaller plants with high ratesof transpiration and low rates of leaf senescence under stress. The carbon exchange rate per unit leaf area increased as liveleaf area decreased under stress due to leaf senescence. Thus,drought resistant races under stress tended to have lower CERper unit live leaf area (but not per plant) than susceptibleraces. Transpiration ratios under stress were lower in resistantthan in susceptible races, mainly because resistant races hadhigher transpiration. The results for the measured variables showed a general trendfor greater drought resistance in sorghum than in millet, indicatingthat the commonly observed adapation of the millets to dry environmentsmay be due to other factors, such as drought escape or heattolerance. Leaf surfaces of seven genotypes of Sorghum bicolor, two ofmaize, Zea mays, and two pearl millet, Pennisetum americanum,were examined by scanning electron microscopy for possible morphologicaldifferences. Leaves 1, 3, 5 and 7 were photographed and printswere used to estimate waxiness, hairiness or pubescence andstomatal density. Glossiness was determined by spraying water,which adhered to the glossy leaves. Cuticular transpirationof detached third and fifth leaves was estimated from the rateof water loss after abscisic acid induced stomatal closure.Sorghum lines SC283, CSM63, CSM90, and pearl millets Souna andTiotioni (all from Mali), were non-glossy, well covered withwax, and exhibited variable hairiness. Older leaves of sorghumvarieties Martin and Redlan were glossy and, like older leavesof the other glossy lines SC1096 and SC90, had little or nowax deposits on their cuticles. The two maize cultivars, NB611and N7A, were non-glossy with dense wax covering; no trichomeswere observed until the 5 to 7 leaf stage. Thus, the glossycharacter was correlated with the reduction or absence of waxdeposits on the leaf surfaces, while hairiness might occur ineither glossy or non-glossy genotypes. Unlike sorghum and maize,in which all leaves after the fifth or seventh were glossy,pearl millet showed no glossiness through the ninth leaf. Measurementsshowed that cuticular transpiration of glossy leaves was oftenmore than double that of non-glossy leaves. Comparisons amongsorghums showed that non-glossy lines had higher stomatal densitiesthan glossy lines. Abstract: The current primary threats to biodiversity on a global scale are species invasions and habitat modification. Management of vulnerable populations often involves a lengthy sequence of 1) research to identify threats and recommend management strategies, 2) active management, and 3) results monitoring to assess effectiveness of management. The last mainland population of the large, endemic New Zealand skink (Whitaker's skink [Cyclodina whitakeri]) provides an opportunity to test this process in a system where the synergistic effects between invasive species (introduced rodents and grasses) have predicted outcomes. A low abundance of Whitaker's skink at the Pukerua Bay Scientific Reserve in the 1980s prompted management recommendations to remove grazing stock and revegetate the site to simultaneously restore habitat and provide protection against introduced mammalian predators. Since Whitaker's skink have low detectability, it was recommended that sympatric copper skink (C. aenea) be used an indicator species of management effectiveness. Grazing stock were removed in 1987, but efforts to revegetate the site were ineffective. Long-term monitoring (1984-2006) of the Whitaker's skink population and 4 other sympatric lizard species within a 336-m2 area at the site resulted in 1,693 lizard captures over 7,597 trap days. Whitaker's skink represented 2.8% of all captures in 1984-1988, but declined relative to other species to represent only 0.2% of captures in 2000-2006 (representing 2 individuals). Congeneric copper skink showed a similar decline with capture rates also approaching zero by 2006. Removing grazing stock did not result in an increased abundance of Whitaker's skink or copper skink through improved habitat quality, as was intended by the management recommendation. Instead, reduced grazing has allowed introduced seeding grasses to proliferate, which may have led to periodic rodent irruptions, supporting a guild of introduced mammalian predators and depleting populations of Whitaker's skink and copper skink. In this instance, attempted protection may have driven a vulnerable population towards extinction. We recommend investigating the feasibility of constructing a mammal-proof fence around the core Whitaker's skink habitat, as the last remaining management option to salvage the population.  相似文献

The in vivo uptake of 31Si-silicic acid and 68Ge-germanic acid by cell organelles of Nitzschia alba Lewin and Lewin and Cylindrotheca fusiformis Reimann and Lewin was demonstrated. The organelles were isolated by fractionation of pre-labeled cells by differential centrifugation in 0.4 M sucrose medium. Electron micrographs showed that the isolated organelles were intact, with the exception of the N. alba mitochondria which appeared swollen and the C. fusiformis chloroplasts which had ruptured outer membranes and lacked stroma material. The amount of 31Si or 68Ge per mg protein of the subcellular fractions decreased in the following general order for both organisms: cell wall, mitochondria, chloroplasts, vesicles, and microsomes. A portion of the 31Si or 68Ge in the organelle fractions could be extracted into a distilled water wash. The uptake of silicon by the organelles suggests that silicon may be involved in some processes of the compartmentalized systems of the cell.  相似文献
