Fatty acids (FAs) profiles and stable isotope signatures of the ghost shrimp, Trypaea australiensis and the soldier crab, Mictyris longicarpus were determined at an unvegetated sandbank of Southport (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia), in November 2005 and February 2006. Additionally, the FAs composition of the faeces and feeding pellets of M. longicarpus and the surface sediment at the study site were also analysed. Trypaea australiensis was found to selectively feed principally on benthic diatoms, as revealed by the high contribution of the marker lipid (20:5 (n‐3)) to tissue total FAs and the δ13C and δ15N isotopic signatures of shrimp tissues. Although the diet of T. australiensis did not change between the two sampling periods, the shrimps appeared to reduce their feeding activity in summer, presumably in relation to a restricted metabolism, as revealed by a decrease in the contribution of the microalgal markers in their tissues. The FAs composition of the tissues of the soldier crab indicated that bacteria and diatoms constituted the base of its diet (contributions of branched 15:0 and 17:0, 18:1 (n‐7) and 20:5 (n‐3)). However, the isotopic signatures of the crabs suggested that meiofauna may represent an intermediate link between the crab and these micro‐organisms.  相似文献

Jerboas belonging to the genus Jaculus are widely distributed rodents inhabiting Palearctic desert and semi‐desert areas. Previous studies on the lesser Egyptian jerboa Jaculus jaculus showed the existence of various morphological forms of controversial taxonomic status. They were sometimes related to two different species, J. jaculus and Jaculus deserti, although this has not been recognized in recent taxonomic updates. To clarify the systematic status of J. jaculus in Tunisia, we performed molecular (phylogenetic analyses of cytochrome b sequences), morphological (multivariate analyses of 13 skull measurements) and karyotypic (standard preparations from bone marrow cells) analyses on a number of specimens collected from ten localities. Our analyses revealed two monophyletic, well differentiated clades, with a mean genetic divergence value (K2P = 10.9 ± 0.01%), which is within the range of distances generally observed between rodent species. Morphometric analyses clearly separated populations of the two genetic clades from each other. However, karyotypes of individuals from both clades appeared similar. Individuals from both molecular clades/morphometric groups were found in sympatry in most of the localities sampled. These results, as obtained from a restricted area of the total distribution, suggest that there are two separate species within the currently accepted J. jaculus in Tunisia. In social organisms, the breeding system corresponds to the number of breeders in a group, their genetic relationships, and the distribution of reproduction among them. Recent, genetically based studies suggest an amazing array of breeding system and reproductive strategies in desert ants of the genus Cataglyphis. Using highly polymorphic DNA microsatellites, we performed a detailed analysis of the breeding system and population genetic structure of two Cataglyphis species belonging to the same phylogenetic group: C. niger and C. savignyi. Our results show that both species present very different breeding systems. C. savignyi colonies are headed by a single queen and populations are multicolonial. Remarkably, queens show one of the highest mating frequency reported in ants (Mp = 9.25). Workers can reproduce by both arrhenotokous and thelytokous parthenogenesis. By contrast, colonies of C. niger are headed by several, multiply mated queens (Mp = 5.17), and they are organized in supercolonial populations made of numerous interconnected nests. Workers lay arrhenotokous eggs only. Specificity of transduction events is controlled at the molecular level by scaffold, anchoring, and adaptor proteins, which position signaling enzymes at proper subcellular localization. This allows their efficient catalytic activation and accurate substrate selection. A-kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs) are group of functionally related proteins that compartmentalize the cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) and other signaling enyzmes at precise subcellular sites in close proximity to their physiological substrate(s) and favor specific phosphorylation events. Recent evidence suggests that AKAP transduction complexes play a key role in regulating G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling. Regulation can occur at multiple levels because AKAPs have been shown both to directly modulate GPCR function and to act as downstream effectors of GPCR signaling. In this minireview, we focus on the molecular mechanisms through which AKAP-signaling complexes modulate GPCR transduction cascades.  相似文献

Hispanics and non‐Hispanics Americans participated in four sets of studies dealing with health‐oriented foods, with the goal to identify how they respond to food categories relevant in any cuisine. Each study comprised a conjoint analysis using 36 elements followed by a self‐profiling questionnaire to learn more about Hispanic and non‐Hispanic food responses to concepts for four different product categories (morning bread, bottled water, healthful salad dressing and popcorn as a snack). The study identified patterns of preference of marketing statements in the areas of health information, sensory characteristics, emotional benefits and endorsements. Conjoint utility values generated by both Hispanics and non‐Hispanic respondents correlated highly, suggesting that their food attitudes are quite similar for“non‐signature”products despite the differences in their original cuisines.  相似文献

Graphiurus is a peculiar taxon among the monophyletic Gliridae (order Rodentia) in showing hystricomorphy of the zygomasseteric architecture of the skull [large infraorbital foramen (IOF), and correlative muscular arrangements). We analysed 34 extant genera taken from two groups of sciurognath rodents that share a large IOF (hystricomorph and myomorph) using elliptical Fourier transform in order to appraise whether this feature of cranial morphology was also accompanied by similar changes in mandible shape. The mandible of Graphiurus is distinct from those of all other hystricomorph sciurognath rodents in showing a more elongated coronoid process and a shorter angular process. Thus, two distinct zygomasseteric organizations (i.e. myomorphy and hystricomorphy of graphiurines) are associated with a similar mandible shape characterized by a well‐developed coronoid process. Results show that hystricomorphy of graphiurines was achieved convergently with other hystricomorph rodents.
