The carbon budgets of the atmosphere and terrestrial ecosystems are closely coupled by vertical gas exchange fluxes. Uncertainties remain with respect to high latitude ecosystems and the processes driving their temporally and spatially highly variable methane (CH4) exchange. Problems associated with scaling plot measurements to larger areas in heterogeneous environments are addressed based on intensive field studies on two nested spatial scales in Northern Siberia. CH4 fluxes on the microsite scale (0.1–100 m2) were measured in the Lena River Delta from July through September 2006 by closed chambers and were compared with simultaneous ecosystem scale (104–106 m2) flux measurements by the eddy covariance (EC) method. Closed chamber measurements were conducted almost daily on 15 plots in four differently developed polygon centers and on a polygon rim. Controls on CH4 emission were identified by stepwise multiple regression. In contrast to relatively low ecosystem‐scale fluxes controlled mainly by near‐surface turbulence, fluxes on the microsite scale were almost an order of magnitude higher at the wet polygon centers and near zero at the drier polygon rim and high‐center polygon. Microsite scale CH4 fluxes varied strongly even within the same microsites. The only statistically significant control on chamber‐based fluxes was surface temperature calculated using the Stefan–Boltzmann equation in the wet polygon centers, whereas no significant control was found for the low emissions from the dry sites. The comparison with the EC measurements reveals differences in controls and the seasonal dynamics between the two measurement scales, which may have consequences for scaling and process‐based models. Despite those differences, closed chamber measurements from within the EC footprint could be scaled by an area‐weighting approach of landcover classes based on high‐resolution imagery to match the total ecosystem‐scale emission. Our nested sampling design allowed for checking scaling results against measurements and to identify potentially missed sources or sinks.  相似文献

Water and nutrient fluxes for single stands of different tree species have been reported in numerous studies, but comparative studies of nutrient and hydrological budgets of common European deciduous tree species are rare. Annual fluxes of water and inorganic nitrogen (N) were established in a 30‐year‐old common garden design with stands of common ash (Fraxinus excelsior), European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), pedunculate oak (Quercus robur), small‐leaved lime (Tilia cordata Mill.), sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus) and Norway spruce (Picea abies [L.] Karst.) replicated at two sites in Denmark, Mattrup and Vallø during 2 years. Mean annual percolation below the root zone (mm yr?1±SE, n=4) ranked in the following order: maple (351±38)>lime (284±32), oak (271±25), beech (257±30), ash (307±69)? spruce (75±24). There were few significant tree species effects on N fluxes. However, the annual mean N throughfall flux (kg N ha?1 yr?1±SE, n=4) for spruce (28±2) was significantly larger than for maple (12±1), beech (11±1) and oak (9±1) stands but not different from that of lime (15±3). Ash had a low mean annual inorganic N throughfall deposition of 9.1 kg ha?1, but was only present at Mattrup. Annual mean of inorganic N leaching (kg ha?1 yr?1±SE, n=4) did not differ significantly between species despite of contrasting tree species mean values; beech (25±9)>oak (16±10), spruce (15±8), lime (14±8)? maple (1.9±1), ash (2.0±1). The two sites had similar throughfall N fluxes, whereas the annual leaching of N was significantly higher at Mattrup than at Vallø. Accordingly, the sites differed in soil properties in relation to rates and dynamics of N cycling. We conclude that tree species affect the N cycle differently but the legacy of land use exerted a dominant control on the N cycle within the short‐term perspective (30 years) of these stands.  相似文献

We present the computer program hybridlab 1.0 for simulating intraspecific hybrids from population samples of nuclear genetic markers such as microsatellites, allozymes or SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms). The program generates a user‐specified number of multilocus F1 hybrid genotypes between any pair of potentially hybridizing populations included in a standard input‐file of multilocus genotypes for population genetic analysis. This simple, user‐friendly program has a wide range of applications for studying natural and artificial hybridization; in particular, for evaluating the statistical power for individual assignment of parental and hybrid individuals. Tracks and trackways of theropod dinosaurs (Grallator footprints) are abundant in the Late Triassic lake sediments of East Greenland. For this study we selected a rather diffuse theropod track preserved on the upper surface of a red heterolithic mudrock, and a better preserved track seen on the upper surface of a greyish mudrock. In order to examine undertracks and other subsurface deformation structures, both slabs were sectioned vertically at closely-spaced intervals, perpendicular to the length of the axis of the impression of digit III. Each section was subsequently polished and internal structures revealed. The digit impressions of both tracks were associated with well-defined undertracks which were cut by deep and narrow claw imprints at the distal end of the digit impressions. Marginal ridges at the tracking surfaces were typically associated with subsurface marginal folds. The marginal ridges were asymmetrically developed suggesting an outward movement of the proximal part of the foot, probably during the kick-off; this is in contrast to what is observed in tracks from Lower Jurassic theropods. The study shows that cross-sections through dinosaur tracks display large structural variation and it is suggested that some disturbed layers in continental deposits could be the result of trampling by vertebrates.  相似文献

Survival of females in relation to their body condition was investigated in the Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicollis on Gotland, Sweden. The brood size was manipulated by enlarging or reducing the number of nestlings by one or two chicks. We found a positive relationship between experimental treatment and the condition of the female in the year of the experiment. Among females which disappeared (had apparently died) between years, the relationship was negative but not significant. When the effect of brood manipulation on the probability of survival was analysed separately for females in poor and good body condition, a negative relationship between experimental treatment and probability of survival among females in poor condition was found. This result indicates the existence of a cost of reproduction in terms of survival in low quality females. There was no effect of brood manipulation on the survival of females in good body condition. Our analyses suggest that individuals have different costs of reproduction, depending on their conditional state.  相似文献

The Lower Cambrian Chengjiang fauna is reviewed and shown to be closely comparable with the younger Burgess Shale fauna. but with various differences in detail. A diverse group of more or less annulated lobopod animals including 'armoured lobopods' are regarded as representatives of the phylum Onychophora. 'Trilobitomorphs' include several new types. Probable protaspides of the trilobitomorph Naraoia are described. No molluses or deuterostomes have been identified. The preservational orientations of the various taxa are reviewed and compared with orientations of the Burgess Shale taxa. Orientation in the sediment is found to be closely correlated to the original shape of individuals. Several new genera and species are described: the segmented. worm-shaped Yunnanozoon lividum gen. et sp.n., the 'armoured lobopods' Onychodictyon ferox gen. et sp.n. and Cardiodictyon catenulum gen. et sp.n. and the arthropods Saperion glumaceum gen. et sp.n., Sinoburius Iunaris gen. et sp.n., and Xandarella spectaculum gen. et sp.n.  相似文献

Male and female imagines of Buchonomyia burmanica sp.n. are described. While the male imago nearly exclusively shows plesiomorphous features, the female imago possesses three important underlying synapomorphies as unique inside-parallelisms: the capacities for divisions of gonapophysis VIII and of tergite IX and for the development of an apodeme lobe. These and supporting evidence lead to the conclusion that Buchonomyia Fittkau deserves a new subfamily, the Buchonomyiinae, which forms the sister-group of the monophyletic unit Chironominae-t-Orthocladiinae+Prodiamesinae+Diamesinae.  相似文献

1. We investigated the importance of lake water chemistry and substrate properties in regulating microbial decomposer communities on macrophyte litter. Ten lakes of differing water chemistry, including such variables as nutrient concentration, pH and dissolved organic carbon, were sampled in October 2003. Water chemistry was analysed, and litter from the macrophytes Phragmites australis, Schoenoplectus lacustris and Nuphar lutea was collected from both above and below the water surface. 2. The three plant species differed widely in carbon and nitrogen content. The aerial parts of P. australis had highest C : N ratio (mean value 125), while the lowest values were found in leaves of N. lutea (19.8). 3. Fungal carbon ranged from 0.15 to 6.4 mg g?1 dry weight (DW), and was higher on aerial than on submerged plant parts. Fungal biomass was highest on S. lacustris and lowest on N. lutea. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis revealed no differences in the number of fungal taxa between plant species or plant parts, with the limitation that no molecular analysis was possible for N. lutea. 4. In contrast, bacteria were most abundant on N. lutea, but showed no significant difference between leaf and stem parts. The number of bacterial taxa was highest on the submerged parts of P. australis. 5. The correlations between microbial variables and the properties of lakes and litter were analysed using multivariate statistics. In a principal component analysis, litter properties explained 78% of the variation in microbial variables. In contrast, redundancy analysis revealed that the explanatory power of lake water chemistry was only 20%, indicating that the properties of the growth substratum were more important than those of the lake water for the attached microbial communities.  相似文献
