Both the inter- and intrapopulational variations in five natural populations ofAsarum nipponicum F. Maekawa were demonstrated for peroxidase isozymes using gel electrofocusing. The patterns of isozymic variation suggested that a very short distance (100 m) effectively isolates populations. Abstract Vibrio cholerae non-O1 strain N037 produced a hemolysin (N037-Hly) which was antigenically similar to El Tor hemolysin (El Tor-Hly) but different in molecular size, hemolytic activity, and glucose binding capacity. In the gene encoding N037-Hly, a 4-bp insertion into the structural gene for El Tor-Hly ( hlyA ) was found. The insertion resulted in a shift of codon frames generating a new stop codon in the downstream region. N037-Hly was a truncated product of El Tor-Hly sharing 90% of the N terminal region. This suggested that the 10% C-terminal region of El Tor-Hly is needed for the maximal hemolytic activity and glucose binding capacity. 相似文献

We examined the effects of monochromatic light on the time sense and the central nervous system. Nine young adult volunteers participated in this study. They were exposed to red-light and blue-light environments (illuminance was kept at 310 lx). We evaluated the time sense by time-production tests of 90 s and 180 s and measured the P300 event-related potentials during an auditory oddball task. The 90-s time intervals produced by subjects in the two monochromatic light conditions were not significantly different. However, the 180-s time interval produced in the red-light condition (163.2+/-50.4 s) was significantly (p<0.05) shorter than that in the blue-light condition (199.0+/-54.4 s). The peak latency of P300 in the red light (322.2+/-26.6 ms) was found to be significantly (p<0.05) shorter also than that in the blue light (332.6+/-20.2 ms). The feelings measured by the visual analogue scales in the two light conditions were not significantly different. These results indicate that the time sense ran faster in the red-light than in the blue-light condition. We suggest that the higher activity in the central nervous system that is accounted for by the shorter latency of P300 is related to the acceleration of the time sense. 相似文献

Intestinal epithelial cells interact with immune cells located in the intestinal epithelium via soluble factors. An in vitro model system using coculture was constructed to analyze the effect of macrophages on intestinal epithelial cells, and human intestinal epithelial-like Caco-2 monolayers and activated macrophage-like THP-1 cells were used in this study. Coculturing with THP-1 cells resulted in an increase of lactate dehydrogenase release from Caco-2 and a decrease in the transepithelial electrical resistance of the monolayers, showing that coculturing with THP-1 induced cell damage to Caco-2 cells. This disruption was significantly suppressed by adding anti-TNF-alpha antibody and etanercept, strongly suggesting that TNF-alpha secreted from THP-1 had caused cell damage to Caco-2 monolayers. The disrupted Caco-2 monolayers showed both apoptotic and necrotic characteristics by morphological and biochemical analyses. TNFRI and NF-kappaB seem to have been involved in this regulation. It is suggested that this phenomenon is similar in some respects to that observed with IBD and that this in vitro coculture system could be a good model for searching for the drugs or food substances that can be used to treat or prevent IBD. 相似文献

Indonesians commonly perform activities on the floor that require squatting postures. It has been identified that adopting squatting postures without any proper support would gradually cause postural stress. This study examines the influence of different squatting heights to the body kinematics and subjective discomfort rating. The subjects were divided into two different body types: overweight subjects with BMI > 24.9 and normal weight subjects with BMI 18-24.9. The subjects adopted a squatting posture at no-stool condition and at the stool height of 10, 15, and 20 cm. The task was to simulate the work close to the ground level with the hip joint deeply flexed. Body segmental angular flexion (SAF) and the visual analog scale (VAS) method were selected for parameter analyses. Significant differences were found in both parameters SAF (trunk, hip, knee, and ankle) and VAS. The interaction effect was found by squatting height and the body type for SAF of the trunk (p < 0.05). However, the increasing BMI index was also found significantly affected associated with the anthropometrical characteristics for buttock height and lower limbs depth. It is suggested that normal weight subjects sit comfortably at 15 cm stool height, whereas overweight subjects preferred 20 cm stool height as a better acceptability condition in terms of overall parameter analyses. 相似文献
