The zebrafish genome contains at least five msx homeobox genes, msxA, msxB, msxC, msxD, and the newly isolated msxE. Although these genes share structural features common to all Msx genes, phylogenetic analyses of protein sequences indicate that the msx genes from zebrafish are not orthologous to the Msx1 and Msx2 genes of mammals, birds, and amphibians. The zebrafish msxB and msxC are more closely related to each other and to the mouse Msx3. Similarly, although the combinatorial expression of the zebrafish msx genes in the embryonic dorsal neuroectoderm, visceral arches, fins, and sensory organs suggests functional similarities with the Msx genes of other vertebrates, differences in the expression patterns preclude precise assignment of orthological relationships. Distinct duplication events may have given rise to the msx genes of modern fish and other vertebrate lineages whereas many aspects of msx gene functions during embryonic development have been preserved.   相似文献

In the present study adrenergic receptors have been investigated in liver parenchyma, obtained at the resection of extrahepatic portal hypertension children without parenchymal affection (control group, n-7) and the resection of children in parenchymal affection (group of chronic hepatitis children, n-6). It has been shown, that the binding of beta-adrenergic radioligand 3H-dihydroalprenolol (3H-DHA) in liver parenchyma membranes of both control and chronic hepatitis groups was saturable and showed high affinity. The Scatchard analysis of the binding data indicated that the binding site was characterized by Kd and Bmax of 1.2 +/- 0.5 nM, 261.2 +/- 50 fmol/mg, respectively, for the control group; and 0.9 +/- 0.15 nM, 68.5 +/- 18.8 fmol/mg, respectively, for the group of chronic hepatitis patients; (mean+SEM). The binding of alpha 1-adrenergic antagonist 3H-prazosin (3H-PRZ) in liver parenchyma was also saturable and showed high affinity. The binding site is characterized by Kd = 0.6 +/- 0.12 nM, Bmax = 92.8 +/- 8.0 fmol/mg, for the control group; and Kd = 0.8 +/- 0.15 nM, Bmax = 195.0 +/- 22.0 fmol/mg, for the group of chronic hepatitis. It has been found that the number of binding sites of 3H-DHA significantly decreased and the number of binding sites of 3H-PRZ did not change in chronic hepatitis liver parenchyma in comparison with the control group. The results obtained suggest the important role of beta-adrenergic receptors in the pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis and in liver regeneration in children.  相似文献

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to examine 20 patients with obstructive jaundice, who had undergone external biliary drainage in the first surgical stage. A clinical comparison group comprised 34 patients without hepatobiliary diseases. Bone mineral density was measured in the lumbar spine, proximal femur, and ultradistal antibrachium. Impaired biliation was found to result in bone loss in the early-stage of the disease, which was more marked in the spongy bone. This allows the ultradistal antibrachium to be identified as a main observation area for dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry to make an early diagnosis of mineralization disorders. The integrated T index (Tint) calculated on the basis of the X-ray densitometry of a few skeletal portions may be used to obtain generalized information on bone mineral density.  相似文献

Longevity is a major characteristic of animals that has long fascinated scientists. In this work, we present a comprehensive database of animal longevity records and related life‐history traits entitled AnAge, which we compiled and manually curated from an extensive literature. AnAge started as a collection of longevity records, but has since been expanded to include quantitative data for numerous other life‐history traits, including body masses at different developmental stages, reproductive data such as age at sexual maturity and measurements of reproductive output, and physiological traits related to metabolism. AnAge features over 4000 vertebrate species and is a central resource for applying the comparative method to studies of longevity and life‐history evolution across the tree of life. Moreover, by providing a reference value for longevity and other life‐history traits, AnAge can prove valuable to a broad range of biologists working in evolutionary biology, ecology, zoology, physiology and conservation biology. 1. Prey organisms can perceive cues to predation hazard and adopt low‐risk behaviours to increase survival. Animals with complex life cycles, such as insects, can exhibit such anti‐predatory behaviours in multiple life stages. 2. Cues to predation risk may induce ovipositing females to choose habitats with low predation risk. Cues to predation risk may also induce larvae to adopt facultative behaviours that reduce risk of predation. 3. One hypothesis postulates that anti‐predation behaviours across adult and larval stages may be negatively associated because selection for effective anti‐predator behaviour in one stage leads to reduced selection for avoidance of predators in other stages. An alternative hypothesis suggests that selection by predation favours multi‐component defences, with both avoidance of oviposition and facultative adoption of low‐risk behaviours by larvae. 4. Laboratory and field experiments were used to determine whether defensive responses of adult and larval mosquitoes are positively or negatively associated. The study tested effects of waterborne cues from predatory Toxorhynchites theobaldi on oviposition choices and larval behaviours of three of its common prey: Culex mollis, Limatus durhamii and Aedes albopictus. 5. Culex mollis shows strong anti‐predator responses in both life stages, consistent with the hypothesis of a multi‐component behavioural defence. The other two species showed no detectable responses to waterborne predator cues in either adult or larval stages. Larvae of these unresponsive species were significantly more vulnerable to this predator than was C. mollis. 6. For these mosquitoes, species appear either to have been selected for multi‐component defences against predation or to act in ways that could be called predator‐naïve.  相似文献

The two-stage control system, ensuring the high quality of serological investigations in the network of screening laboratories in Moscow was developed and introduced into practice. At the first stage the entry control of the quality of the test system for the detection of HbsAg, coming to the screening laboratories, is made in the reference laboratory with the use of specially developed "representative" panels, as well as the test systems for comparison ("reference" test systems). Then "minipanels" are formed from specimens included into the "representative" panels, which are used for the evaluation of the quality of laboratory investigations made in the screening laboratories. The high quality of such system for controlling the quality of the detection of HBsAg in the screening laboratories of Moscow is shown.  相似文献

Background  

Proteochemometrics is a new methodology that allows prediction of protein function directly from real interaction measurement data without the need of 3D structure information. Several reported proteochemometric models of ligand-receptor interactions have already yielded significant insights into various forms of bio-molecular interactions. The proteochemometric models are multivariate regression models that predict binding affinity for a particular combination of features of the ligand and protein. Although proteochemometric models have already offered interesting results in various studies, no detailed statistical evaluation of their average predictive power has been performed. In particular, variable subset selection performed to date has always relied on using all available examples, a situation also encountered in microarray gene expression data analysis.  相似文献
