This is the first detailed report of social factors affecting fish-eating in Japanese macaques under natural circumstances. We video-recorded a complete event of fish eating, involving a new fish food species for the monkeys on Koshima island. Following the discovery of a large beached sea bass by a peripheral male, we observed a total of 16 individuals feeding on the fish in turns, and interacting around it. The rank order of access to the fish was mainly explained by the spatial position of group members, whereas dominance determined how long the fish was monopolized. Although limited, the tolerated presence of close-bystanders while feeding was affected by kinship and affiliation. Genealogic data suggested that fish-eating behavior was well maintained in terms of maternal lineages. This report should contribute to a better understanding of how social features may constrain the long-term diffusion of feeding innovations in free-ranging primate groups.  相似文献

Bacterial FAS provides essential fatty acids for use in the assembly of key cellular components. Among them, FabI is an enoyl-ACP reductase which catalyzes the final and rate-limiting step of bacterial FAS. It is a potential target for selective antibacterial action, because it shows low overall sequence homology with mammalian enzymes. Until today, various compounds have been reported as inhibitors of bacterial FabI-inhibitory compounds. To discover novel small-molecular FabI inhibitors, we initially screened our compound library for inhibitory activity toward FabI of Escherichia coli. And discovered 4-pyridone derivatives as a lead compound. Structure optimization studies yielded 4-pyridone derivatives 7n having strong FabI-inhibitory and antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus. There have been no reports concerning 4-pyridone derivatives as FabI inhibitor.  相似文献

A new series of 1beta-methyl carbapenems possessing a 6,7-disubstituted imidazo[5,1-b]thiazol-2-yl group directly attached to the C-2 position of the carbapenem nucleus was prepared, and the activities of these compounds against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) were evaluated. To study the effect of basic moieties on anti-MRSA activity, we introduced an amino, or imino, or amidino group at the 6-position of imidazo[5,1-b]thiazole in place of the carbamoylmethyl moiety of CP5068. Anti-MRSA activities of almost all basic group-substituted carbapenems were improved, though some of the compounds showed stronger acute toxicity in mice than IPM. In order to decrease the toxicity without decreasing the activity, we introduced various additional functionalities around the basic moiety. Finally, we obtained CP5484, which has excellent anti-MRSA activity and low acute toxicity.  相似文献

GIBBERELLIN INSENSITIVE DWARF1 (GID1) encodes a soluble gibberellin (GA) receptor that shares sequence similarity with a hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL). Previously, a yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) assay revealed that the GID1-GA complex directly interacts with SLENDER RICE1 (SLR1), a DELLA repressor protein in GA signaling. Here, we demonstrated, by pull-down and bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) experiments, that the GA-dependent GID1-SLR1 interaction also occurs in planta. GA(4) was found to have the highest affinity to GID1 in Y2H assays and is the most effective form of GA in planta. Domain analyses of SLR1 using Y2H, gel filtration, and BiFC methods revealed that the DELLA and TVHYNP domains of SLR1 are required for the GID1-SLR1 interaction. To identify the important regions of GID1 for GA and SLR1 interactions, we used many different mutant versions of GID1, such as the spontaneous mutant GID1s, N- and C-terminal truncated GID1s, and mutagenized GID1 proteins with conserved amino acids replaced with Ala. The amino acid residues important for SLR1 interaction completely overlapped the residues required for GA binding that were scattered throughout the GID1 molecule. When we plotted these residues on the GID1 structure predicted by analogy with HSL tertiary structure, many residues were located at regions corresponding to the substrate binding pocket and lid. Furthermore, the GA-GID1 interaction was stabilized by SLR1. Based on these observations, we proposed a molecular model for interaction between GA, GID1, and SLR1.  相似文献

Although a number of obesity animal models have been reported, each model possesses different characteristics of obesity, suggesting care should be taken in choosing an animal model suitable for the experimental purpose. In this report, we fed 4-(young) and 52-week-old (middle-aged) C57BL/6J (B6) and young BALB/cA (BALB/c) mice with a high fat diet (HFD) for 9 weeks, and investigated the clinical and histological characteristics of obesity. In BALB/c mice, males gained more body weight and body fat weight and had higher energy intake than females by HFD feeding. Comparing the effect of HFD feeding between the strains of mice, BALB/c male mice accumulated more hepatic lipid than B6 male mice. In addition, middle-aged B6 mice increased the ratio of fat to body weight and hepatic lipid accumulation more than young mice. In conclusion, the characteristics of obesity induced by HFD feeding were influenced by the sex, strain and age of mice. Sex steroid hormones, hepatic lipid metabolism and systemic metabolism might be involved in these factors. The basic data in this study will be useful for the development of animal models of high fat diet-induced obesity.  相似文献

The spino-occipital nerve (SO) and ventral rami of the spinal nerves (SV) in 10 tetraodontiform families and 5 outgroup taxa were examined, with special reference to pectoral and pelvic fin muscle innervation. Compared with the outgroup taxa, tetraodontiforms were characteristic in having SO3 + SV1 (SO3 in tetraodontids) that gave off several lateral subbranches to the pectoral fin base and SO participation in infracarinalis anterior innervation. SO and SV1 were connected with one another (6 patterns) before entering the pectoral fin muscles in most species, including the outgroup taxa, resulting in the participation of SV1 in the innervation of almost all of the pectoral fin muscles. SO3 + SV1 was present in all tetraodontiforms (except in 2 tetraodontids having only SO3) and the outgroup taxa, an upper dorsal branch uniformly extending dorsally into the pectoral fin base. The pectoral fin base also received a branch ventrally, but its identity differed (participation or nonparticipation of SV2). SV1 alone constituting the branch was a derived condition occurring in Aracanidae, Ostraciidae, Tetraodontidae, Diodontidae, and Molidae. No strong characters supporting a tetraodontiform sister group were recognized among the spino-occipital nerve and ventral rami of spinal nerves.  相似文献

We determined the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences of two luminous beetles (Arthropoda, Insecta, Coleoptera), Rhagophthalmus lufengensis from Yunnan, China and Rhagophthalmus ohbai from Yaeyama Island, Japan. We identified all the 37 mtDNA genes of R. lufengensis (15,982 bp) and the 34 genes of R. ohbai (15,704 bp). R. lufengensis and R. ohbai genomes have higher A + T contents than other coleopteran genomes although the gene arrangements are similar. Interestingly, in a study of the evolutionary relationship among R. lufengensis, R. ohbai and the firefly Pyrocoelia rufa, the phylogenetic tree inferred from lrRNA genes from mitochondrial genomes indicates a biogeographic relationship among the bioluminescent insects in East Asia and the phylogenetic tree inferred from luciferase-related genes from nuclear genomes shows an appropriate relationship among coleopterans, reflecting the evolutionary origin of bioluminescence. Thus, the mtDNAs of luminescent beetles can provide an insight into their evolutionary origin and biogeography.  相似文献

In zebrafish, primordial germ cells (PGCs) are determined by a specialized maternal cytoplasm, the germ plasm, which forms at the distal ends of the cleavage furrows in 4-cell embryos. The germ plasm includes maternal mRNAs from the germline-specific genes such as vasa and nanos1, and vegetally localized dazl RNA is also incorporated into the germ plasm. However, little is known about the distributions and assembly mechanisms of germ plasm components, especially during oogenesis. Here we report that the germ plasm RNAs vasa, nanos1, and dazl co-localize with the mitochondrial cloud (MC) and are transported to the vegetal cortex during early oogenesis. We found that a mitochondrial cloud localization element (MCLE) previously identified in the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of Xenopus Xcat2 gene can direct RNA localization to the vegetal cortex via the MC in zebrafish oocytes. In addition, the RNA-binding protein Hermes is a component of the MC in zebrafish oocytes, as is the case in Xenopus. Moreover, we provide evidence that the dazl 3'UTR possesses at least three types of cis-acting elements that direct multiple steps in the localization process: MC localization, anchorage at the vegetal cortex, and localization at the cleavage furrows. Taken together, the data show that the MC functions as a conserved feature that participates in transport of the germ plasm RNAs in Xenopus and zebrafish oocytes. Furthermore, we propose that the germ plasm components are assembled in a stepwise and spatiotemporally-regulated manner during oogenesis and early embryogenesis in zebrafish.  相似文献
