Protein synthesizing cell apparatus in malignant growth and pharmacotherapy by chlofiden

Data on the influence of a new antitumor preparation chlofiden on the general contents of rat liver ribosomes and sarcoma 45 and their division on free and membrane of membrane bound and decrease of free ribosomes during tumor growth supposed synthesis of specific proteins bound are given in the paper. It was shown that in the liver of tumor bearing rats total and membrane bound ribosomes decreased and the level of free ribosomes increased. High contents of free ribosomes in sarcoma 45 may testify increase of intracellular protein synthesis including processes of cell growth and division as well as the tendency for increase. Chlofiden normalized total contents, increased free and decreased liver membrane bound ribosomes contents, during tumor growth supposed synthesis of specific proteins. Increase of free ribosomes and decrease of their specific radioactivity in sarcoma 45 testified membrane damage by chlofiden and inhibition of intracellular protein synthesis which are essential in cell division.     

The animal model of anxious depression: persistence of behavior pathology

It has been shown that chronic psychoemotional stress caused by repeated experience of defeats in agonistic interactions during 30 days led to development of the anxiety depression--like state accompanied by pronounced anxiety, behavioral deficit, decreased communication, and increased depressiveness as estimated by various behavioral tests in male mice. This psychopathological state still existed after 1-2 weeks living with females in comfortable conditions (without confrontations with other males), that testified to persistence of behavior pathology.     

The enzymatic activity of the antioxidant system in the ontogeny of mutant norflurazone-tolerant Arabidopsis thaliana

The activities of superoxide dismutase and guaiacol-dependent peroxidase were studied in the ontogenesis of recessive homozygous mutants of Arabidopsis thaliana Heynh. le-2 and nfz24, which are characterized by two- to threefold increases in tolerance to the herbicide norflurazone. The mutants le-2 and nfz24 differed from the initial race Dijon in some phenotypic features, duration of ontogenetic stages, and dynamics of the superoxide dismutase and peroxidase activities in ontogenesis. A single treatment of plants with norflurazone induced an accelerated increase in the level of both enzymes in the mutants as compared to the wild type plants. Under the conditions of multiple treatment with norflurazone, the mutants le-2 and nfz24 displayed a higher tolerance to the bleaching effect of the herbicide and were characterized by a higher level of superoxide dismutase. The data obtained suggest that the superoxide dismutase and peroxidase activities are controlled by both ontogenetic factors and stress signals. Mutations in the lines le-2 and nfz24 increase sensitivity to a stress signal or increase efficiency of an adaptive response due to long-term maintenance of a high level of the antioxidant enzymes under the conditions of stress.     

Immunogenicity of the recombinant Bacillus strains with cloned gene of biosynthesis of protective antigen against Bacillus anthracis

Microbe Russian Anti-Plague Research Institute, Saratov A hybrid plasmid pUB110PA-1 demonstrating stable functioning in the cells of Bacillus strains and containing the gene of biosynthesis of Bacillus anthracis protective antigen was constructed. The recombinant strains surpassing the anthrax vaccinal cultures in the secreted synthesis of the protective antigen were obtained and their immunological efficacy was assessed. A single inoculation of Guinea pigs with the dose of 5 x 107 spores of the recombinant strains imparted efficient protection against B. anthracis challenge. Immune responses were characterized by high indices of immunity and titers of antibodies to the protective antigen. In contrast to the anthrax vaccinal preparations, the gene-engineering strains imposed no residual virulence for BALB/n mice and Guinea pigs.     

Inheritance of the serotonin level in 1st-generation mice from crosses with different inbred strains

The level of serotonin content in brain stem and stomach was studied in the first generation of different combinations of inbred mice strains. The serotonin level was shown in these tissues to be inherited differently. Heterosis was observed in the gastro-intestinal tract. Serotonin brain level depends on strain combinations in crosses.
