Plasma cholinesterase (pChE) levels and erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase (eAChE) levels were studied in 6 cows before, during and after parturition (Group I), their calves (Group II), 38 cows suffering from parturient paresis (Group III) and 14 newly delivered non-paretic cows (Group IV). The mean of the pChE level in Group I was 1.5 μkat/1 ± 0.20 before parturition and decreased significantly (P ≦ 0.05) to 1.2 ukat/1 ± 0.16 after parturition. The eAChE level was before parturition ≅ 140 ukat/1 and decreased to ≅ 130 μkat/1 4–5 weeks after parturition. At birth the pChE level was 12.8 ukat/1 ± 5.9 in Group II. After 4 weeks the level had decreased to 2.3 ukat/1 ±0.3. In the bull calves the pChE level started to increase when they were 6 weeks old and reached a level of 5.7 μkat/1 ± 0.6 before slaughter at 6 months of age. The heifers did not show this increase. They had a level of around 2 μkat/1 throughout the investigation. The eAChE level at birth was 119 μkat/1 and increased slowly to a level of 145 μkat/1 at 6 months. No differences between the sexes were found. The cows suffering from parturient paresis had a pChE level of 1.80 μkat/1 ± 0.30 before treatment with calcium (Ca). The level decreased significantly (P ≦ 0.001) after Ca-infusion to a level of 1.67 ukat/1 ±0.29. Group IV had a pChE level of 1.65 μkat/1 ± 0.42 at parturition. Two to 4 months later the cows that had recovered from milk fever had a level of 1.61 μkat/1 ± 0.31 and the control cows 1.66 ukat/1 ± 0.48. No differences between the groups were found for the eAChE level. The findings show that parturition influences the pChE level in cows and that sex influences the pChE level in calves between 6 weeks to at least 6 months of age. Furthermore the elevated pChE level found in the cows suffering from parturient paresis before Ca infusion may be a further sign of a disturbance in the cholinergic system with a special preference to the neuromuscular junctions. 相似文献
The enantiomers of formoterol (R;R and S;S) and their diastereomers (R;S and S;R) were synthesized and purified using a new procedure which required the preparation of the (R;R)- and (S;S)-forms of N-(1-phenylethyl)-N-(1-(p-methoxyphenyl)-2-propyl)-amine as important intermediates. The enantiomeric purity obtained was greater than 99.3%, usually greater than 99.7%. The four stereoisomers were examined with respect to their ability to interact in vitro with beta-adrenoceptors in tissues isolated from guinea pig. The effects measured were (1) relaxation of the tracheal smooth muscle (mostly beta 2), (2) depression of subtetanic contractions of the soleus muscle (beta 2), and (3) increase in the force of the papillary muscle of the left ventricle of the heart (beta 1). All enantiomers caused a concentration-dependent and complete relaxation of the tracheal smooth muscle which was inhibited by propranolol. The order of potency was (R;R) much greater than (R;S) = (S;R) greater than (S;S). There was a 1,000-fold difference in potency between the most and the least potent isomer. The presence of the (S;S)-isomer did not affect the activity of the (R;R)-isomer on the tracheal smooth muscle. Also on the skeletal and cardiac muscles (R;R)-formoterol was more potent than its (R;S)-isomer. The selectivity for beta 2-adrenoceptors appeared to be slightly higher for the (R;R)-isomer than for the (R;S)-isomer. The potency of the (S;R)- and (S;S)-isomers on the papillary muscle was too low to be determined accurately.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS) 相似文献
Summary A 46-year-old man with chronic myelocytic leukemia had a new variant translocation between chromosome 22 and chromosome 7 in bone marrow cells. No involvement of chromosome 9 was seen. The patient entered blastic transformation within half a year, by which time he had acquired an isochromosome 17 in addition to the variant translocation. 相似文献
From the aerial parts of Scutellaria hastifolia, family Lamiaceae (Labiatae), seven neo-clerodane diterpenoids (hastifolins A–G) were isolated. The products are similar to the known scuteparvin and are characterized by being trans-cinnamoyl derivatives. Structures and stereochemistry were determined by intensive NMR investigation. Six of the products form three pairs of epimers at C-13. Hastifolins A–C showed significant antifeedant activity. 相似文献
Drylands encompass over 40% of terrestrial ecosystems and face significant anthropogenic degradation causing a loss of ecosystem integrity, services, and deterioration of social‐ecological systems. To combat this degradation, some dryland restoration efforts have focused on the use of biological soil crusts (biocrusts): complex communities of cyanobacteria, algae, lichens, bryophytes, and other organisms living in association with the top millimeters of soil. Biocrusts are common in many ecosystems and especially drylands. They perform a suite of ecosystem functions: stabilizing soil surfaces to prevent erosion, contributing carbon through photosynthesis, fixing nitrogen, and mediating the hydrological cycle in drylands. Biocrusts have emerged as a potential tool in restoration; developing methods to implement effective biocrust restoration has the potential to return many ecosystem functions and services. Although culture‐based approaches have allowed researchers to learn about the biology, physiology, and cultivation of biocrusts, transferring this knowledge to field implementation has been more challenging. A large amount of research has amassed to improve our understanding of biocrust restoration, leaving us at an opportune time to learn from one another and to join approaches for maximum efficacy. The articles in this special issue improve the state of our current knowledge in biocrust restoration, highlighting efforts to effectively restore biocrusts through a variety of different ecosystems, across scales and utilizing a variety of lab and field methods. This collective work provides a useful resource for the scientific community as well as land managers. 相似文献
Forests have long been locations of contestation between people and state bureaucracies, and among the knowledge frameworks of local users, foresters, ecologists, and conservationists. An essential framing of the debate has been between the categories of primary and secondary forest. In this introduction to a collection of papers that address the questions of what basis, in what sense, and for whom primary forest is ‘primary’ and secondary forest is ‘secondary,’ and whether these are useful distinctions, we outline this debate and propose a new conceptual model that departs from the simple binary of primary and secondary forests. Rather, we propose that attention should be given to the nature of the disturbance that may alter forest ecology, the forms of regeneration that follow, and the governance context within which this takes place.
