Rats with chronic gastric fistulas were stimulated for 12 or 24 h with constant intravenous infusion of pentagastrin. When secretin was also infused for the last half period of the experiment, respectively, 6 or 12 h, the volume of gastric secretion and HCl output were significantly reduced but the concentration of pepsin was significantly increased. The dissociated effect of secretin on gastric acid and pepsin secretion reported previously in man, dog and cat was also found in the rat.  相似文献

In the dog, unlike most other domestic animal species, corpus luteum (CL) life span is not affected by hysterectomy. Only in pregnant dogs, during the immediate prepartum decline of progesterone, does PGF2alpha clearly seem to act as an endogenous luteolytic agent. Whether endogenous PGF2alpha plays a role in the slow regression of the corpora lutea of the nonpregnant cycle is not known. To test for possible paracrine/autocrine effects of locally produced PGF2alpha, luteal expression of the key rate-limiting enzymes in prostaglandin biosynthesis, i.e. cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 (Cox1 and Cox2), was examined in dogs during diestrus, including the periods of CL formation, as well as early and late CL regression. Corpora lutea were collected by ovariohysterectomy from nonpregnant bitches 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 and 65 days after ovulation. On the mRNA-level, expression of Cox1 and Cox2 was tested by qualitative and quantitative, Real Time (Taq Man) RT-PCR; on the protein level, expression of Cox2 was studied by immunohistochemistry. The mRNA for Cox1 and Cox2 were detected at all stages of diestrus. Expression of Cox1 was lowest on Day 5 (ovulation = Day 0) and higher and nearly constant thereafter. Expression of Cox2-mRNA was distinctly cycle related and highest on Day 5; it decreased by Day 15 and remained constantly low until Day 65. Immunohistochemistry localized expression of Cox2 in the cytoplasm of luteal cells. Staining was restricted to Days 5 and 15, with stronger signals on Day 5. These data suggested that increased expression of Cox2 is associated with luteal growth and development and not luteal regression. Furthermore, the expression of Cox1 more likely reflected activity of a housekeeping gene.  相似文献

Ecological and social factors have a significant effect on infant survivorship in nonhuman primates. We present 6293 group-months of infant birth and mortality data for 29 groups of Alouatta caraya inhabiting a flooded forest in northeastern Argentina, collected over 1.5–8?yr depending on the group. We tested whether infant mortality was a response to the effects of flooding on food availability and whether male takeovers resulted in greater opportunities for infanticide. During our study, 43 of 113 infants died at a mean age of 5?mo. In 24 cases the cause of death was unknown. In the remaining 19 cases infant deaths were attributed to periods of intense flooding (N?=?8), replacement of the breeding male (N?=?8), problems associated with birth (N?=?2), and injuries during an intergroup encounter (N?=?1). Flooding reduced the availability of mature leaves, which appeared to play an important role in the ability of mothers to nurse their offspring. Male replacements occurred in four social groups that contained only one fully adult male. Infant mortality was significantly higher in groups that experienced male replacement compared to groups without male replacement. These results indicate that infant mortality in Alouatta caraya is affected by several factors—natural disasters, maternal condition and food availability, infanticide after male replacement, and possibly disease and predation—each of which needs to be evaluated to understand the history and demography of this primate population.  相似文献

A three-dimensional operational hydrodynamic model, developed at the Institute of Oceanography, University of Gdańsk was used to forecast hydrological conditions in the Oder Estuary. The model was based on the coastal ocean circulation model known as the Princeton Ocean Model (POM). Because of wind-driven water backup in the Oder mouth, a simplified operational model of river discharge, based on water budget in a stream channel, was developed. Linking these two models into a single system made it possible to forecast water levels, currents, water temperature, and salinity in the estuary. A good fit between the observed and computed data allowed to consider the model as a reliable environmental tool. Obtaining a hydrological forecast via a quick website access gives potential users an opportunity to predict the day-by-day course of processes that may affect different areas of human life and activities, e.g., navigation, port operations, flood protection of coastal areas; the predictions may also be used in studies of coastal processes in the estuary.  相似文献

The purpose of the study was to determine effect of high sodium intake on fluid and electrolyte turnover and heart remodeling in the cardiac failure elicited by myocardial infarction (MI). The experiments were performed on four groups of Sprague Dawley rats maintained on food containing 0.45% NaCl and drinking either water (groups 1, 2) or 1% NaCl (groups 3, 4). Groups 1 and 3 were sham-operated while in groups 2 and 4 MI was produced by the coronary artery ligation. In each group food and fluid as well as sodium intake, urine (Vu), sodium (UNaV), potassium (UKV) and solutes (UosmV) excretion were determined before and four weeks after the surgery. Size of the infarct, left ventricle (LV) weight and diameter of LV and right ventricle (RV) myocytes were determined during post-mortem examination. Before the surgery groups 3 and 4 ingested significantly more fluid and sodium, had higher Vu, UNaV, UKV and UosmV than the respective groups 1 and 2. In groups 2 and 4 MI resulted in significant decrease in Vu, UNaV and UosmV in comparison to the pre-surgical level. In Group 4 MI resulted also in a significant decrease of food and sodium intake. The MI size did not differ in groups 2 and 4 while diameter of LV myocytes was significantly greater in groups 2 and 4 than in groups 1 and 3, and in group 4 than in group 2. The study reveals that prolonged high sodium consumption increases fluid and electrolyte turnover both in the sham and in the MI rats and that the MI causes decrease in food and sodium intake in rats on high but not on regular sodium intake. In addition high sodium diet promotes development of greater post-MI hypertrophy of the LV myocytes.  相似文献
