Aminoacyl-tRNA-synthetases and their high molecular weight complexes in experimental myocardial ischemia

A number of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases from rabbit liver during experimental myocardial infarction and from pig myocardium upon 15-min of autolysis were found to increase their activity in aminoacylation. Direct correlations between the activities of high molecular weight complexes and of the total extracts were not observed. It was shown that the specific activity of endogenous inorganic pyrophosphatase increased markedly during the ischemia of myocardium both in total myocardium extracts and in high molecular weight complexes.     

Effect of tranquilizing agents on the blood level of endogenous ethanol in alcoholics

Experiments on alcohol addicts blood were made to study the time course of the endogenous ethanol level after a single administration of mebicar (1.5 g), a derivative of bicyclic bisuria, 50 ml of 5% sodium hydroxybutyric syrup, a derivative of gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, and 20 mg diazepam, a derivative of 1,4-benzodiazepines. The clinical effect was recorded simultaneously. It was established that different tranquilizers stimulate the increase in the endogenous ethanol level as regards the spectrum of psychotropic activity. This effect was the most pronounced with mebicar and to a less measure with diazepam.     

Chromosome numbers for three species of medicinal leeches (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Hirudo</Emphasis> spp.)

Karyological preparations were made from the testisacs of three medicinal leech species Hirudo medicinalis Linnaeus, 1758, H. verbana Carena, 1820 and H. orientalis Utevsky & Trontelj, 2005 . The samples originated from different populations in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russian Federation, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The chromosome numbers were determined both from mitotic and meiotic stages of spermatogenesis using the propionic haematoxylin staining technique. All three species were found to have different haploid chromosome numbers: H. medicinalis 14, H. verbana 13 and H. orientalis 12, thus corroborating the validity of these taxa. The chromosomes can be classified as meta-, submetacentric and acrocentric. The chromosome numbers obtained are similar to that of the related species Haemopis sanguisuga (Linnaeus, 1758), which has 13 pairs.
