The present work covers original information on aphids (Hemiptera: Aphidoidea) from Greece during 1995–2005. The individual
aphid taxa were collected from their host plants and identified. The plant taxa were classified in two major categories: cultivated
and self-sown. The cultivated ones were classified as: herbaceous, climbing and trees. The selfsown ones were classified as:
annual herbaceous, annual or biennial herbaceous, biennial or perennial herbaceous, perennial herbaceous, shrubby and trees
Two hundred twelve plant taxa were identified on which 105 aphid taxa were recorded. We report 391 plant taxa-aphid taxa associations
from which, 190 are referred to cultivated and 201 to self-shown plant taxa. Aphis gossypii was found to infest the widest spectrum of cultivated plant taxa whereas Brachycaudus helichrysi was found to infest the widest spectrum of self-sown plant taxa. Myzus persicae was found to infest the widest spectrum of the total number of plant taxa. Information for several economically unimportant

The kinetic properties of the Mg2+-activated and Mn2+-activated glutamine synthetase (GS) of Azospirillum brasilense in the biosynthetic reaction were studied. The Mg2+-supported and Mn2+-supported GSs in an average state of adenylylation varied in pH optimum, maximum activity, saturation functions for ammonium and glutamate, affinity to substrates, and in the Me2+-ATP ratio required for the optimal enzyme activity. Seventeen other cations were tested for the maintenance of GS activity. Grazing of C. quadrangula from a Siberian forest pond on natural phytoplankton assemblages was studied in a modified flow-through system. Ceriodaphniastrongly selected subdominant Cryptomonas erosarather than the dominant diatoms of comparable size. Using Cryptomonas as the sole microalgae food, Ceriodaphnia demonstrated significant somatic and population growth. Seasonal biomass maximum of Ceriodaphnia and Cryptomonas coincidedin the pond. Five endopectate lyases from the phytopathogenic bacterium Erwinia chrysanthemi, PelA, PelB, PelD, PelI, and PelL, were analyzed with respect to their modes of action on polymeric and oligomeric substrates (degree of polymerization, 2 to 8). On polygalacturonate, PelB showed higher reaction rates than PelD, PelI, and PelA, whereas the reaction rates for PelL were extremely low. The product progression during polygalacturonate cleavage showed a typical depolymerization profile for each enzyme and demonstrated their endolytic character. PelA, PelI, and PelL released oligogalacturonates of different sizes, whereas PelD and PelB released mostly unsaturated dimer and unsaturated trimer, respectively. Upon prolonged incubation, all enzymes degraded the primary products further, to unsaturated dimer and trimer, except for PelL, which degraded the primary products to unsaturated tetramer and pentamer in addition to unsaturated dimer and trimer. The bond cleavage frequencies on oligogalacturonates revealed differences in the modes of action of these enzymes that were commensurate with the product progression profiles. The preferential products formed from the oligogalacturonates were unsaturated dimer for PelD, unsaturated trimer for PelB, and unsaturated tetramer for PelI and PelL. For PelA, preferential products were dependent on the sizes of the oligogalacturonates. Whereas PelB and PelD displayed their highest activities on hexagalacturonate and tetragalacturonate, respectively, PelA, PelI, and PelL were most active on the octamer, the largest substrate used. The Erdheim-Chester’s disease is extremely rare in children. We present the case of a 12-year-old girl with histological and radiological diagnosis of this disease and mutation of the BRAF gene, who developed multisystemic compromise requiring treatment with dabrafenib. We identified 22 reports of this condition among children worldwide and this is the second pediatric case in Latin America. Diagnostic imaging is critical to confirm Erdheim-Chester disease and for the surgical planning of the biopsy. Additionally, we identified the parasellar dark sign, which has previously been reported on lymphocytic hypophysitis.This report contributes to the current practice as it shows the clinical presentation and the diagnostic workout of this disease in pediatrics. 相似文献

Genetic adaptation, occurring over a long evolutionary time, enables host-specialized herbivores to develop novel resistance traits and to efficiently counteract the defenses of a narrow range of host plants. In contrast, physiological acclimation, leading to the suppression and/or detoxification of host defenses, is hypothesized to enable broad generalists to shift between plant hosts. However, the host adaptation mechanisms used by generalists composed of host-adapted populations are not known. Two-spotted spider mite (TSSM; Tetranychus urticae) is an extreme generalist herbivore whose individual populations perform well only on a subset of potential hosts. We combined experimental evolution, Arabidopsis thaliana genetics, mite reverse genetics, and pharmacological approaches to examine mite host adaptation upon the shift of a bean (Phaseolus vulgaris)-adapted population to Arabidopsis. We showed that cytochrome P450 monooxygenases are required for mite adaptation to Arabidopsis. We identified activities of two tiers of P450s: general xenobiotic-responsive P450s that have a limited contribution to mite adaptation to Arabidopsis and adaptation-associated P450s that efficiently counteract Arabidopsis defenses. In approximately 25 generations of mite selection on Arabidopsis plants, mites evolved highly efficient detoxification-based adaptation, characteristic of specialist herbivores. This demonstrates that specialization to plant resistance traits can occur within the ecological timescale, enabling the TSSM to shift to novel plant hosts.Mites can evolve highly efficient detoxification-based adaptation in approximately 25 generations on an initially unfavorable plant host, revealing that specialization can occur within the ecological timescale. 相似文献

Regulation, recognition and cell signaling involve the coordinated actions of many players. To achieve this coordination, each participant must have a valid identification (ID) that is easily recognized by the others. For proteins, these IDs are often within intrinsically disordered (also ID) regions. The functions of a set of well-characterized ID regions from a diversity of proteins are presented herein to support this view. These examples include both more recently described signaling proteins, such as p53, alpha-synuclein, HMGA, the Rieske protein, estrogen receptor alpha, chaperones, GCN4, Arf, Hdm2, FlgM, measles virus nucleoprotein, RNase E, glycogen synthase kinase 3beta, p21(Waf1/Cip1/Sdi1), caldesmon, calmodulin, BRCA1 and several other intriguing proteins, as well as historical prototypes for signaling, regulation, control and molecular recognition, such as the lac repressor, the voltage gated potassium channel, RNA polymerase and the S15 peptide associating with the RNA polymerase S-protein. The frequent occurrence and the common use of ID regions in important protein functions raise the possibility that the relationship between amino acid sequence, disordered ensemble and function might be the dominant paradigm for the molecular recognition that serves as the basis for signaling and regulation by protein molecules. 相似文献

We demonstrate that the lifespan of Drosophila melanogaster population is controllable by a combination of external three-dimensional oscillating low-frequency electric and magnetic fields (3D OLFEMFs). The lifespan was decreased or increased in dependence of the parameters of the external 3D OLFEMFs. We propose that metabolic processes in D. melanogaster’s body are either accelerated (in the case of reduced lifespan) or slowed down (in the case of increased lifespan) in function of 3D OLFEMFs that induce vibrational motions on sub-cellular and larger scales. 相似文献
