This paper addresses the problem of modelling heterogeneous individual characteristics in a population. A flexible unified
approach for stochastic parametrization dynamics of the distribution in population data is proposed. To approximate data with
multiple observations per individual, models based on Markov processes are constructed. The method can be applied to scalar
or multivariate characteristics, and its application to growth and allometry data is considered. Different stochastic versions
of known growth and allometry functions are developed, which enable wide applicability. Simple informative growth indices
are calculated as the moments of distribution. The three-parameter Gompertz growth model for size-at-age data was reparametrized
to a size-increment data model with two parameters.

Estimating cladoceran birth rate: use of the egg age distribution to estimate mortality of ovigerous females and eggs 总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
The birth rate of natural cladoceran populations can change rapidly (during 2–3 days), reflecting rapid changes in their environment. If the egg ratio is calculated on the basis of egg age distribution, the birth rate can be estimated at short sampling intervals (shorter than egg stage duration) by modified Paloheimo's (1974) formula. When female size structure and age of eggs in clutches at the beginning and the end of a sampling interval are known, death rates of ovigerous females and eggs in separate size classes can be determined and incorporated in birth rate estimates. All these methods have been employed using the data on the population of Diaphanosoma brahyurum from the lake Obsterno (North-Western Belarus) in July–August, 1992. The birth rate values computed by the proposed methods and Poloheimo's formula differed significantly in many cases. The accuracy of birth rate estimations from various calculation methods was tested using a computer simulation. The model contains the essential features of cladoceran life history: distinct egg, juvenile and adult stages, development of eggs and reproduction. The population was divided into 25 age classes, each of 1 day duration. Durations of the egg, juvenile and adult stages were set at 3, 6 and 20 days, respectively. The embryogenesis was divided into three egg stages, each of 1 day duration. Survivorship was set from 0.2 up to 1.0 for each age class. The survivorship and brood size were changed through each of five time intervals (days) that allowed to simulate an increase or reduction of population density. Fecundity, survivorship and egg stage duration remained constant during each of 5 days that assumed stability of an environment (this does not occur in nature). Nevertheless, the egg ratio, proportion of juveniles and birth rates were variable even under these circumstances. Computer simulations showed that Poloheimo's formula evaluates birth rate with the relative error of 62% and usually overestimates its values. Pigeon heart microsomes contain three minor size protein kinase substrates of minimal molecular weights of 22 000, 15 000, and 11 500, as estimated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. When the microsomes were partially loaded with calcium oxalate and subjected to rate zonal and isopynic centrifugations in sucrose density gradient columns, the 22 000 and the 15 000 dalton proteins settled in the heaviest fraction, which was composed mainly of vesicles of sarcoplasmic reticular membranes; the 11 500 dalton protein was concentrated in the lightest fractions, which consisted chiefly of vesicles of sarcolemmal origin. During incubation of the membrane fractions with Mg[γ-32P]ATP significant amounts of 32P were incorporated into all these proteins. Incorporation of 32P into the 15 000 dalton protein was moderately and 32P incorporation into the 22 000 dalton protein was markedly enhanced in the presence of exogenous soluble cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase and cyclic AMP. The phosphorylation of the three proteins was virtually unaffected by CA2+ concentrations up to 0.1 mM and by ethyleneglycol-bis(β-aminoethylether)-N,N′-tetraacetic acid in the absence of added Ca2+.Phosphorylation of the 22 000 and the 11 500 dalton proteins occurred mainly at serine residues. In the 15 000 dalton protein threonine residues were the main site of endogenous phosphorylation. Nearly equal amounts of [32P]-phosphate were incorporated into threonine and serine residues of this protein when phosphorylation was supported by exogenous cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase and cyclic AMP.The 15 000 dalton protein could be removed from its membrane attachment by extraction with an acidic chloroform/methanol mixture. Effects of red light (R), far-red light (FR) and UV radiation on growth and greening of lettuce seedlings (Latuca sativa L., cv. Berlinskii) have been investigated. UV-B and UV-C inhibited hypocotyl elongation and stimulated cotyledonary growth. R in combination with UV-B and UV-C partly eliminated these effects, but FR increased those and reversed the R effect. Chlorophyll accumulation was inhibited by UV-B and UV-C. In comparison with cotyledonary growth, R strengthened the UV inhibitory effect, and FR reversed this effect of R. Thus, UV and phytochrome system modify the effects of each other on hypocotyl and leaf growth in lettuce seedlings depending on the level of active phytochrome formed. 相似文献

Several LINE-1s have been isolated and characterized from genomic DNA of the vole, Microtus kirgisorum. Blot hybridization revealed specific restriction patterns of L1 elements in vole genomes. Rehybridization of the genomic
blot with a cloned 5′-end fragment revealed two major bands indicating the presence of two different L1 subfamilies. The copy
numbers are estimated for different parts of M. kirgisorum L1 elements. Data also demonstrate that most vole L1 elements are truncated at the 5′-end; however, in contrast to mouse,
the ORF1 copy number is higher in vole. A difference between the substitution rates of the ORF1 5′-region (approximately 330
nucleotides) and the rest of the L1 coding regions is revealed.

Adult human bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) containing or consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are an important source in tissue homeostasis and repair. Although many processes involved in their differentiation into diverse lineages have been deciphered, substantial inroads remain to be gained to synthesize a complete regulatory picture. The present study suggests that structural conformation of extracellular collagen I, the major organic matrix component in musculoskeletal tissues, plays, along with differentiation stimuli, a decisive role in the selection of differentiation lineage. It introduces a novel concept which proposes that structural transition of collagen I matrix regulates cell differentiation through distinct signaling pathways specific for the structural state of the matrix. Thus, on native collagen I matrix inefficient adipogenesis is p38-independent, whereas on its denatured counterpart, an efficient adipogenesis is primarily regulated by p38 kinase. Inversely, osteogenic differentiation occurs efficiently on native, but not on denatured collagen I matrix, with a low commencement threshold on the former and a substantially higher one on the latter. Osteogenesis on collagen I matrices in both structural conformations is fully dependent on ERK. However, whereas on native collagen I matrix osteogenic differentiation is Hsp90-dependent, on denatured collagen I matrix it is Hsp90-independent. The matrix conformation-mediated regulation appears to be one of the mechanisms determining differentiation lineage of BMSCs. It allows a novel interpretation of the bone remodeling cycle, explains the marked physiological aging-related adipogenic shift in musculoskeletal tissues, and can be a principal contributor to adipogenic shift seen in a number of clinical disorders. 相似文献
