The effect of skis on the force-time characteristics of the simulated ski jumping takeoff was examined in a wind tunnel. Takeoff forces were recorded with a force plate installed under the tunnel floor. Signals from the front and rear parts of the force plate were collected separately to examine the anteroposterior balance of the jumpers during the takeoff. Two ski jumpers performed simulated takeoffs, first without skis in nonwind conditions and in various wind conditions. Thereafter, the same experiments were repeated with skis. The jumpers were able to perform very natural takeoff actions (similar to the actual takeoff) with skis in wind tunnel. According to the subjective feeling of the jumpers, the simulated ski jumping takeoff with skis was even easier to perform than the earlier trials without skis. Skis did not much influence the force levels produced during the takeoff but they still changed the force distribution under the feet. Contribution of the forces produced under the rear part of the feet was emphasized probably because the strong dorsiflexion is needed for lifting the skis to the proper flight position. The results presented in this experiment emphasize that research on ski jumping takeoff can be advanced by using wind tunnels.  相似文献

The effects of a 1 year training period on 13 elite weight-lifters were investigated by periodical tests of electromyographic, muscle fibre and force production characteristics. A statistically non-significant increase of 3.5% in maximal isometric strength of the leg extensors, from 4841 +/- 1104 to 5010 +/- 1012 N, occurred over the year. Individual changes in the high force portions of the force-velocity curve correlated (p less than 0.05-0.01) with changes in weight-lifting performance. Training months 5-8 were characterized by the lowest average training intensity (77.1 +/- 2.0%), and this resulted in a significant (p less than 0.05) decrease in maximal neural activation (IEMG) of the muscles, while the last four month period, with only a slightly higher average training intensity (79.1 +/- 3.0%), led to a significant (p less than 0.01) increase in maximum IEMG. Individual increases in training intensity between these two training periods correlated with individual increases both in muscular strength (p less than 0.05) and in the weight lifted in the clean & jerk (p less than 0.05). A non-significant increase of 3.9% in total mean muscle fibre area occurred over the year. The present findings demonstrate the limited potential for strength development in elite strength athletes, and suggest that the magnitudes and time courses of neural and hypertrophic adaptations in the neuromuscular system during their training may differ from those reported for previously untrained subjects. The findings additionally indicate the importance of training intensity for modifying training responses in elite strength athletes.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the combined effects of muscle history, activation and stretching velocity on short latency stretch response (SLR). Stretches (70, 120 and 200 deg s-1) were elicited to both passive and active (10-25% MVC) triceps surae muscle with constant (ISO), lengthened (LEN) or shortened (SHO) muscle length. Under the passive SHO pre-condition both SLR amplitude and reflex torque (RT) decreased where as latency increased compared with the passive ISO pre-condition. Such observations were absent in active trials. Stretches applied to a lengthening passive muscle (LEN) resulted in smaller SLR amplitude and RT compared with passive ISO. In active muscle the stretch response increased with stretching velocity in ISO and SHO. However, in LEN there was large interindividual variability and no velocity dependent increase in SLR amplitude was observed. Smaller amplitude and longer latency of passive SLR in SHO could result from increased slack in the intrafusal fibres, which may be compensated by fusimotor activation during the active condition. The mechanism behind the smaller amplitude in passive LEN and the lack of velocity dependence in active LEN may be related to changes in motoneuron pool excitability or changes in the spindle sensitivity to stretch.  相似文献

Oviposition behavior, intra- and interspecific host discrimination, and super- and multiparasitism by the scelionids Telenomus busseolae and T. isis were studied using batches of eggs of the noctuid stalk borer Sesamia calamistis as the host. Both Telenomus species were able to discern eggs already parasitized. As a result, self-superparasitism was only 4.0% for T. busseolae and 5.8% for T. isis. Likewise, intraspecific superparasitism was avoided by both species and was significantly higher for T. busseolae than T. isis, and higher when parasitized eggs were offered immediately (0 h) and after 48 h than after 24 h; apparently, the recognition of parasitized eggs at 24 and 48 h was based on the presence of parasitoid larvae rather than a specific marking substance. Multiparasitism was avoided if the female had a choice between unparasitized and parasitized eggs. In a choice experiment, it was 10.2 and 2.5% for T. busseolae and T. isis, respectively. In a nonchoice experiment, multiparasitism did not vary between species and time treatment; it was low, varying between 9.6 and 24.1%. In the 0-h treatment, T. busseolae always outcompeted T. isis, accounting for 63.4 or 91.7% of the offspring, when T. isis or T. busseolae, respectively, was the first species. In the 24-h treatment, the first species emerged more often than the second did but the host egg mortality, i.e., eggs from which neither borer larvae nor parasitoid emerged, was >40%. Whereas T. busseolae is ubiquitous in Africa, T. isis has never been reported from eastern Africa, and it has been proposed for introduction against the prevailing noctuid pest Bussoela fusca. Based on earlier life table and host suitability studies and on the present findings, it is concluded that T. isis would establish in the midaltitudes but not the highlands of eastern Africa.  相似文献

Experiments were carried out to examine interaction between mechanical changes of the muscle-tendon unit and reduced reflex sensitivity after repeated and prolonged passive muscle stretching (RPS). There is some evidence that this interaction might be relevant also during active stretch-shortening cycle type of fatigue tasks. The results demonstrated a clear deterioration of voluntarily and electrically induced muscle contractions after RPS. Maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), average electromyographic activities of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles, and maximal twitch contraction decreased on average by 13.8, 10.4, 7.6, and 16.8%, respectively. In addition, there was a 14% lengthening in the total duration of the twitch. MVCs measured at different ankle joint angles revealed a downward and rightward shift in the torque-fascicle length curve after RPS. Interestingly, there was a crossing in the torque-fascicle length curves while measured at different activation levels but at the same joint angle before and after RPS. Even though no changes were observed in the activation level during MVCs, all the reflex parameters showed a clear reduction after RPS. This study presents evidence that repeated and prolonged passive muscle stretching can lead to some modification of material behavior of the aponeurosis-tendon system, such as stress relaxation and/or plastic deformation. In addition, altered material properties seem to affect proprioceptive feedback and, therefore, the motor unit activation in proportion to the contractile failure.  相似文献

This study examined whether the elasticity of the tendinous tissues plays an important role in human locomotion by improving the power output and efficiency of skeletal muscle. Ten subjects performed one-leg drop jumps (DJ) from different dropping heights with a constant rebound height. The fascicle length of the vastus lateralis muscle was measured by using real-time ultrasonography during DJ. In the braking phase of the DJ, fascicle lengthening decreased and the tendinous tissue lengthening increased with increased dropping intensity. In the subsequent push-off phase, the shortening of tendinous tissues increased with higher dropping intensity. The averaged electromyographic activities of the preactivation and braking phases increased and those of the push-off phase decreased as the drop height was increased. With higher dropping height but constant submaximal rebound jump, the stretched tendinous tissue length increased with less stretched fascicle during the braking phase. In the subsequent push-off phase, the recoil of tendinous tissues became greater. These results suggest that the increased prestretch intensity has considerable influence on the process of storage and subsequent recoil of the elastic energy during the stretch-shortening cycle action.  相似文献

A 26-amino-acid peptide (designated PFNP) composed of the nuclear localization signal of fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-1 and a membrane-permeable peptide is known to mimic FGF-1's ability to stimulate DNA synthesis in various cell types at low cell densities. The underlying molecular mechanism is unknown, however. Here we show that PFNP activity is inhibited in murine fibroblasts by a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, that PFNP does not bind to the FGF receptor, and that PFNP does not induce phosphorylation of the FGF receptor substrate. In addition, expression of a dominant-negative form of Ras, which abolished the activities of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and heparin-binding EGF, had no affect on PFNP-induced DNA synthesis. Despite this apparent Ras independence, PFNP activity correlated with phosphorylation of ERK1/2 MAP kinases and was concentration dependently inhibited by inhibitors of ERK1/2 MAP kinase phosphorylation. These results indicate that whereas Ras activation is dispensable for PFNP-induced DNA synthesis, activation of tyrosine kinases and ERK1/2 kinases, albeit independently of the FGF receptor system, is crucial. Interestingly, FGF-1 signaling was predominantly Ras-independent when the cell density was optimum for PFNP, suggesting that PFNP and FGF-1 share the same signaling mechanism.  相似文献

In the present study, the fascicle length (L(fa)) of the human medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle was monitored to evaluate possible input from the short-latency stretch reflex (SLR) during the stance phase of running and to examine its timing at various running speeds. Eight subjects ran at 2.0, 3.5, 5.0, and 6.5 m/s. The L(fa) was measured with the high-speed ultrasound fascicle scanning together with kinematics and myoelectrical activities. The amplitudes and onset latency of SLR activities were determined. During ground contact, the sudden MG fascicle stretch occurred during the early contact at all running speeds. This was followed by the fascicle shortening. The timing of fascicle stretch depended on running speed and type of foot contact. In slower speed conditions (2.0, 3.5, 5 m/s), the MG fascicle stretch and the corresponding SLR activities occurred during the middle of the braking phase. In fast-speed running (6.5 m/s), however, the MG fascicle stretch occurred later compared with the lower speed. The corresponding SLR activities occurred significantly later at the end of the braking phase. In addition to the clear demonstration of the different timings of SLR in MG during ground contact of running, the results imply that the role of the MG SLR during the stance phase of running can be different between fast- and slow-speed running conditions.  相似文献

The cowpea aphid, Aphis craccivora, is a major insect pest of cowpea in Africa. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) mediate plant–arthropod interactions that could be used in the management of insect pests. In this study, we established the VOC profile involved in the interaction between A. craccivora and four cowpea cultivars, namely Ex‐Luanda, Katumani 80, Machakos 66 and Ken Kunde 1. Behavioural assays were conducted to study host preference and gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for chemical analysis of volatiles. In preference assays, alate A. craccivora had no significant preference for any of the four cowpea cultivars tested. However, in the olfactometer assays, the aphids showed a significant preference for odours from cultivar Ex‐Luanda compared to Katumani 80. Machakos 66 and Ken Kunde 1 elicited neutral responses. In pairwise comparisons, alate A. craccivora did not distinguish between odours of respective cowpea cultivars. GC/MS analysis identified 23 compounds in the volatiles of the four cowpea cultivars. Not all compounds were detected in all cowpea cultivars, and the detected compounds amounts varied in each cultivar. Of these, only four compounds (hexanal, (E)‐2‐hexenal, 1‐octen‐3‐ol and p‐xylene) were emitted in significantly different quantities in the four cultivars. A blend of hexanal and (E)‐2‐hexenal added to cowpea cultivar Ex‐Luanda decreased its attractiveness to A. craccivora compared to the control. Our findings showed differential attractiveness of VOCs of cowpea cultivars to A. craccivora, suggesting that VOCs could be used in the management of A. craccivora.  相似文献

PACAP (pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide) is a member of the VIP/secretin/glucagon family, which includes the ligands of class II G-protein coupled receptors. Since the recognition of PACAP by the receptor may involve the binding of PACAP to membranes, its membrane-bound structure should be important. We have carried out structural analysis of uniformly 13C,15N labeled PACAP27 and its C-terminal truncated form PACAP(1-21)NH2 (PACAP21) bound to membranes with high resolution solid-state NMR. Phosphatidylcholine bilayers and phosphatidylcholine/phosphatidylglycerol bilayers were used for PACAP27 and PACAP21, respectively. Most backbone signals were assigned for PACAP27 and PACAP21. TALOS analysis revealed that both peptides take on extended conformations on the membranes. Dilution of PACAP21 did not change the conformation of the major part. Selective polarization transfer experiment confirmed that PACAP27 is interacting with the membranes. It was concluded that the interaction of PACAP with the membrane surface causes their extended conformation. PACAP27 is reported to take an alpha-helical conformation in dodecylphosphocholine micelles and membrane-binding peptides usually take similar conformations in micelles and in membranes. Therefore, the property of PACAP27 changing its conformation in response to its environment is unique. Its conformational flexibility may be associated with its wide variety of functions.  相似文献
