Spatial distribution (SD) of White Sea intertidal soft-bottom communities was studied at scales from decimetres to dozens of kilometres on the basis of an extensive dataset (464 samples of macrofauna, 349 samples of ciliates, and 333 samples of diatoms). We used the information index of structural heterogeneity D(I) (Azovsky et al., 2000 // Mar. Biol. 136 (3): 581-590) to characterize spatial variability in the species composition of the communities at different extent (total area surveyed) and grain (finest spatial resolution). The type of distribution was determined via the relation between D(I) and parameters of the spatial scale (extent and grain). At small scale (in terms of extent), all the communities were distributed randomly (mosaic SD). At larger scales, the estimated spatial variability depended neither on extent nor grain, exclusively on their ratio, i.e., was scale-invariant. This means that at some scale the spatial patterns of communities display self-similar properties (fractal SD). Such SD was found at a rather wide range of scales scales: 10(1)-10(4) m for the macrofauna, 10(0)-10(3) m for the ciliates, and 10(-1)-10(2) m for the diatoms. At still greater scales, patchy or gradient patters were observed. Thus, the ranges of fractal distribution were proportional to the average size of the organisms (approximately 10(4)-10(7) times the body size). We suppose that such spatial pattern reflects community self-organization in a relatively homogeneous environment and may be the most efficient way to realize the highest structural diversity on the basis of pre-formed complexes of predominant species. We also suppose that fractal-like patterns may be a general feature of the spatial organization of communities.  相似文献

A mathematical model for invasive tumor growth is proposed, which takes into account cell division, death, and motility. The model includes local cell density and the distribution of nutrient (oxygen) concentration. Cancer cells die in the absence of nutrients; therefore, the distribution of oxygen in tissue substantially affects both the tumor proliferation rate and its structure. The model adequately describes the experimentally measured rate of tumor proliferation. The existence of autowave solutions is demonstrated, and their properties are investigated. The results are compared with the properties of the Kolmogorov-Petrovskii-Piskunov and Fisher equations. It is shown that the nutrient distribution influences the selection of speed and the convergence of the initial conditions to the automodel solution.  相似文献

By means of the vital microscopy method length, diameter, stipulated area of the longitudinal section have been studied in the nail torus capillaries of students from different regions of the world depending on the climatogeographic zones. The value of the structural parameters in the skin capillaries, which characterize their heat exchange surface, directly, depends on temperature factors of the environment. There is an increase of the heat exchange surface in the capillaris of the person-inhabitants beginning from the moderate towards the subtropical, tropical and subequatorial zone. The exception make the students from the equatorial zone: the structure parameters of their capillaries are less than in the persons from the subequatorial and even from the tropical zones. This is connected with the fact that the equatorial zone is characterized with some extermal amount of heat and moisture.  相似文献

We found that the tritium-labeled synthetic ACTH-like octapeptide leucocorticotropin corresponding to the 81–88 sequence of the precursor of human interleukin-1α ([3H]GK VLKKRR) is bound by the ACTH receptor of rat adrenal cortex with a high affinity and specificity (K d 2.2 ± 0.1 nM). This peptide was shown to exert no effect on the adenylate cyclase activity of the membranes of rat adrenal cortex in the concentration range from 1 to 1000 nM. Leucocorticotropin administration three times at doses of 10–20 μg/animal did not change the level of hydroxycorticosteroids (11-HOCS) in the rat adrenal glands in the absence of temperature action. At the same time, the peptide abolishes (at a dose of 20 μg/animal, three times) or significantly decreases (at a dose of 10 μg/animal, three times) the dramatic increase in the 11-HOCS content in the adrenal glands occurring in the case of cold or heat shock. Thus, leucocorticotropin normalizes the 11-HOCS level in the rat adrenal cortex during stress. The stress-protective effect of the peptide is mediated through the ACTH receptor.  相似文献

A tritium-labeled synthetic LKEKK pentapeptide corresponding to the sequences 16–20 of human thymosin-α1 and 131–135 of human interferon-α2 was obtained with a specific activity of 28 Ci/mmol. [3H]LKEKK was found to bind with high affinity (K d 3.7 ± 0.3 nM) to the membranes isolated from epithelial cells of rat small intestinal mucosa. The trypsin treatment of the membranes did not affect the binding, thus supporting the nonprotein nature of the peptide receptor. The binding of the labeled peptide was inhibited by unlabeled thymosin-α1, interferon-α2, and cholera toxin B subunit (K i 4.2 ± 0.4, 3.5 ± 0.3, and 4.7 ± 0.3 nM respectively). The pentapeptide did not affect the adenylate cyclase activity within the concentration range of 1–1000 nM.  相似文献

The tritium-labeled dipeptide bestim (gamma-D-Glu-L-Trp) with a specific activity of 45 Ci/mmol was obtained by high-temperature solid-state catalytic isotope exchange. It was found that [3H]bestim binds with a high affinity to murine peritoneal macrophages (Kd 2.1 +/- 0.1 nM) and thymocytes (Kd 3.1 +/- 0.2 nM), as well as with plasma membranes isolated from these cells (Kd 18.6 +/- 0.2 and 16.7 +/- 0.3 nM, respectively). The specific binding of [3H]bestim to macrophages and thymocytes was inhibited by the unlabeled dipeptide thymogen (L-Glu-L-Trp) (Ki 0.9 +/- 0.1 and 1.1 +/- 0.1 nM, respectively). After treatment with trypsin, macrophages and thymocytes lost the ability to bind [3H]bestim. Bestim in the concentration range of 10(-10) to 10(-6) M reduced the adenylate cyclase activity in the membranes of murine macrophages and thymocytes.  相似文献

Tritium-labeled synthetic fragments of human adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) [3H]ACTH (11–24) and [3H]ACTH (15–18) with a specific activity of 22 and 26 Ci/mmol, respectively, were obtained. It was found that [3H]ACTH-(11–24) binds to membranes of the rat adrenal cortex with high affinity and high specificity (K d 1.8 ± 0.1 nM). Twenty nine fragments of ACTH (11–24) were synthesized, and their ability to inhibit the specific binding of [3H]ACTH (11–24) to adrenocortical membranes was investigated. The shortest active peptide was found to be an ACTH fragment (15–18) (KKRR) (K i 2.3 ± 0.2 nM), whose [3H] labeled derivative binds to rat adrenocortical membranes (K d 2.1 ± 0.1 nM) with a high affinity. The specific binding of [3H]ACTH-(15–18) was inhibited by 100% by unlabeled ACTH (11–24) (K i 2.0 ± 0.1 nM). ACTH (15–18) in the concentration range of 1–1000 nM did not affect the adenylate cyclase activity of adrenocortical membranes and, therefore, is an antagonist of the ACTH receptor.  相似文献
