The possible role in drought resistance played by sclerophyllywas studied in the Mediterranean oaks Quercus ilex, Q. suberand Q. pubescens. Studies were conducted on leaves at 30, 50and 80% of their final surface area, as well as on mature leavesof the current year's growth in June and September and on 1-year-oldleaves. Leaves of different ages of the three species showed quite differentdegrees of sclerophylly (DS). Q. ilex leaves reached the definitiveDS of 1.75 g dm–2 during leaf expansion; Q. pubescensleaves hardened at the end of their expansion, with a finalDS of 0.93 g dm–2; Q. suber showed the lowest DS of 0.76g dm–2. Leaf conductance to water vapour (g1) of 1-year-old leaves ofQ. ilex, measured in the field, showed a duration of the g1peak values about twice that of the other two species. The minimumleaf relative water content (RWC), however, was near the samein the three species, indicating that water loss was recoveredpartly by Q. ilex leaves. Quercus ilex L. growing in the southern Mediterranean Basin region is exposed to xylem embolism induced by both winter freezing and summer drought. The distribution of the species in Sicily could be explained in terms of the different vulnerability to embolism of its xylem conduits. Naturally occurring climatic conditions were simulated by: (1) maintaining plants for 3h at ambient temperatures of 0, -1.5, -2.5, -5.0 and -11°C; and (2) allowing plants to dry out to ratios of their minimum diurnal leaf water potentials (Ψ1) to that at the turgor loss point (Ψtlp) of 0.6, 0.9, 1.05, 1.20 and 1.33. The loss of hydraulic conductivity of one-year-old twigs reached 40% at -1.5°C and at Ψ1tlP= 1.05. Recovery from these strains was almost complete 24 h after the release of thermal stress or after one irrigation, respectively. More severe stresses reduced recovery consistently. The percentages of xylem conduits embolized following application of the two stresses, were positively related to xylem conduit diameter. The capability of the xylem conduits to recover from stress was positively related to the conduit diameter in plants subjected to summer drought, but not in the plants subjected to winter freezing stress. The ecological significance of the different vulnerabilities to embolism of xylem conduits under naturally occurring climatic conditions is discussed.  相似文献

目的 研究自体骨髓单个核细胞移植对股骨头坏死患者缺血状态的改善程度和治疗效果.方法 选取2004 年7 月至2010 年11 月期间187 例252 髋股骨头坏死患者,应用自体骨髓单个核细胞移植治疗,分别采集 187 例患者骨髓200 -360 ml,采用 Ficoll 密度梯度离心法分离单个核细胞,单个核细胞总数为(2.4 ~ 7.8)× 108 个,流式细胞仪检测 CD34+ 细胞和 CD133+ 细胞在所分离出的干细胞悬液中的含量分别为2.47﹪± 0.58﹪和1.29﹪± 0.35﹪,然后将单个核细胞用生理盐水制备成细胞悬液 20 - 30 ml,使用数字减影血管造影技术(DSA)行超选择性股骨头供血动脉内干细胞移植术.按世界骨循环研究学会(ARCO)对骨坏死分期,设自身前后对照观察疗效.移植术后第 3、6、12、24、36 和48 个月,根据髋关节 Harris 评分评价疗效,移植术后6 个月通过复查患者股骨头供血动脉 DSA,观察其新生血管形成情况,以后每隔 6 个月采用影像学方法观察股骨头形态学变化.结果 (1)临床疗效:对接受自体骨髓单个核细胞移植治疗的187 例患者随访 3 ~ 48(24.2 ± 4.5)个月,其中髋关节疼痛缓解者 158 例(占患者总数的 84.5﹪),髋关节功能改善者 146 例(占患者总数的 78.1﹪),行走间距延长者 149 例(占患者总数的 79.7﹪);(2)影像学检查:干细胞移植术后 6 个月187 例患者中54 例行股骨头供血动脉 DSA 检查,48 例显示供血动脉较移植术前明显增多、增粗,血流速度增快,12 ~ 24个月后 72 例患者股骨头区骨质病变获得改善.结论 超选择性动脉内骨髓单个核细胞移植方法简便、安全有效,对因缺血导致坏死的股骨头无再次损伤,能够有效治疗缺血性股骨头坏死.  相似文献

Hybridization is a significant threat for endangered species and could potentially even lead to their extinction. This concern applies to the globally vulnerable Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga, a species that co‐occurs, and potentially interbreeds, with the more common Lesser Spotted Eagle Aquila pomarina in a vast area of Eastern Europe. We applied single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and microsatellite markers in order to study hybridization and introgression in 14 European spotted eagle populations. We detected hybridization and/or introgression in all studied sympatric populations. In most regions, hybridization took place prevalently between A. pomarina males and A. clanga females, with introgression to the more common A. pomarina. However, such a pattern was not as obvious in regions where A. clanga is still numerous. In the course of 16 years of genetic monitoring of a mixed population in Estonia, we observed the abandonment of A. clanga breeding territories and the replacement of A. clanga pairs by A. pomarina, whereby on several occasions hybridization was an intermediate step before the disappearance of A. clanga. Although the total number of Estonian A. clanga × A. pomarina pairs was twice as high as that of A. clanga pairs, the number of pairs recorded yearly were approximately equal, which suggests a higher turnover rate in interbreeding pairs. This study shows that interspecific introgressive hybridization occurs rather frequently in a hybrid zone at least 1700‐km wide: it poses an additional threat for the vulnerable A. clanga, and may contribute to the extinction of its populations. © 2010 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2010, 100 , 725–736.  相似文献

Volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from tobacco ( Nicotiana tabacum L. var. Bel W3) plants exposed to ozone (O3) were investigated using proton-transfer-reaction mass-spectrometry (PTR-MS) and gas chromatography mass-spectrometry (GC-MS) to find a quantitative reference for plants' responses to O3 stress. O3 exposures to illuminated plants induced post-exposure VOC emission bursts. The lag time for the onset of volatile C6 emissions produced within the octadecanoid pathway was found to be inversely proportional to O3 uptake, or more precisely, to the O3 flux density into the plants. In cases of short O3 pulses of identical duration the total amount of these emitted C6 VOC was related to the O3 flux density into the plants, and not to ozone concentrations or dose–response relationships such as AOT 40 values. Approximately one C6 product was emitted per five O3 molecules taken up by the plant. A threshold flux density of O3 inducing emissions of C6 products was found to be (1.6 ± 0.7) × 10−8 mol m−2 s−1.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to describe 1) the developmentof new research systems for biochemical comparison of cellulartraits between normal and tumorous pigment cells of fish origin,2) the similarity and dissimilarity between these two categoriesof pigment cells with regard to growth, differentiation andpigment translocating activities and 3) the potentials of thesetumorous pigment cells to manifest multiple differentiation.The development of research systems has been achieved by theestablishment of 1) methods to obtain homogenous populationsof viable, cultivatable xanthophores (erythrophores) and melanophoresfrom goldfish skins, 2) permanent cell lines from goldfish erythrophoromas(tumors derived from erythrophores) and from Nibe croaker irido-melanophoromas(tumors composed of mixed populations of iridophore- and melanophore-likecells) and 3) procedures to induce differentiation in normaland tumorous stem cells (including the formation of pigmentsand ability to undergo pigment translocation in response tocAMP, to the neurotransmitter epinephrine and to the hormonesACTH and melatonin). Two kinds of tumorous pigment cell linesexamined herein have the ability to form, in addition to variouspigments, structures similar to dermal skeletons and lentoidbodies. The aim of the present study was to investigate the genetic structure of the Valais shrew (Sorex antinorii) by a combined phylogeographical and landscape genetic approach, and thereby to infer the locations of glacial refugia and establish the influence of geographical barriers. We sequenced part of the mitochondrial cytochrome b (cyt b) gene of 179 individuals of S. antinorii sampled across the entire species' range. Six specimens attributed to S. arunchi were included in the analysis. The phylogeographical pattern was assessed by Bayesian molecular phylogenetic reconstruction, population genetic analyses, and a species distribution modelling (SDM)‐based hindcasting approach. We also used landscape genetics (including isolation‐by‐resistance) to infer the determinants of current intra‐specific genetic structure. The phylogeographical analysis revealed shallow divergence among haplotypes and no clear substructure within S. antinorii. The starlike structure of the median‐joining network is consistent with population expansion from a single refugium, probably located in the Apennines. Long branches observed on the same network also suggest that another refugium may have existed in the north‐eastern part of Italy. This result is consistent with SDM, which also suggests several habitable areas for S. antinorii in the Italian peninsula during the LGM. Therefore S. antinorii appears to have occupied disconnected glacial refugia in the Italian peninsula, supporting previous data for other species showing multiple refugia within southern refugial areas. By coupling genetic analyses and SDM, we were able to infer how past climatic suitability contributed to genetic divergence of populations. Several important dioecious species show sexual spatial segregation (SSS) along environmental gradients that have significant ecological effect on terrestrial ecosystem. However, little attention has been paid to understanding of how males and females respond to environmental gradients and sexual competition. We compared eco‐physiological parameters of males and females of Populus cathayana under different sexual competition patterns and nitrogen (N) supply levels. We found that males and females interacting with the same or opposite sex showed significant differences in biomass partition, photosynthetic capacity, carbon (C) and N metabolism, and leaf ultrastructure, and that the sexual differences to competition were importantly driven by N supply. The intersexual competition was enhanced under high N, while the intrasexual competition among females was amplified under low N. Under high N, the intersexual competition stimulated the growth of the females and negatively affected the males. In contrast, under low N, the males exposed to intrasexual competition had the highest tolerance, whereas females exposed to intrasexual competition showed the lowest adaptation among all competition patterns. Sexual competition patterns and N supply levels significantly affected the sexual dimorphism and competitiveness, which may play an important role in spatial segregation of P. cathayana populations.  相似文献

The reproductive potential and population growth (rm and λ) of the predator Supputius cincticeps (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) were evaluated using a life and fertility table. S. cincticeps was reared on one plant of Eucalyptus cloeziana in the field and fed with Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) pupae. Females of this predator had a net reproductive rate (R0) of 21.02 females/female; an intrinsic rate of population increase (rm) of 0.041 and finite rate of increase (λ) of 1.042. This resulted in population growth of S. cincticeps in the eucalyptus plant with a doubling time of 17.01 days. This natural enemy can be reared under field conditions with alternative prey for use in biological control. Such individuals of S. cinticeps will be better adapted to field conditions when they are liberated.  相似文献
