Background
Activated mineralocorticoid receptors influence the association between daily salt intake and blood pressure. A relatively low mineralocorticoid receptor function is reported to be a risk for mental distress such as depression. Since mental distress is also a known risk for hypertension and cardiovascular disease, understanding of the association between estimated daily salt intake and mental distress contributing to hypertension is important for risk estimation for cardiovascular disease. However, no single study has reported this association.Methods
We conducted a cross-sectional study of 1014 Japanese men undergoing general health check-ups. Mental distress was diagnosed as a Kessler 6 scale score ≥5. We also classified mental distress by levels of hypertension. Estimated daily salt intake was calculated from a causal urine specimen.Results
Independent from classical cardiovascular risk factors and thyroid disease, we found a significant inverse association between estimated daily salt intake and mental distress. When we analyzed for mental distress and hypertension, we also found a significant association. With the reference group being the lowest tertiles of estimated daily salt intake, the multivariable odds ratios (ORs) of mental distress and mental distress with hypertension for the highest tertiles were 0.50 (0.29–0.88) and 0.46 (0.22–0.96).Conclusions
Lower estimated daily salt intake is a significant risk of mental distress for rural community-dwelling Japanese men. Since depression is reported to be associated with cardiovascular disease, risk estimation for the lower intake of salt on mental distress, especially for mental distress with hypertension, may become an important tool to prevent cardiovascular disease. 相似文献102.
Aims: Transmission routes of noroviruses, leading aetiological agents of acute gastroenteritis, are rarely verified when outbreaks occur. Because the destination of norovirus particles being firmly captured by micro‐organisms could be totally different from that of those particles moving freely, micro‐organisms with natural affinity ligands such as virus‐binding proteins would affect the fate of viruses in environment, if such microbial affinity ligands exist. The aim of this study is to identify norovirus‐binding proteins (NoVBPs) that are presumably working as natural ligands for norovirus particles in water environments. Methods and Results: NoVBPs were recovered from activated sludge micro‐organisms by an affinity chromatography technique in which a capsid peptide of norovirus genogroup II (GII) was immobilized. The recovered NoVBPs bind to norovirus‐like particles (NoVLPs) of norovirus GII, and this adsorption was stronger than that to NoVLPs of norovirus genogroup I. The profile of two‐dimensional electrophoresis of NoVBPs showed that the recovered NoVBPs included at least seven spots of protein. The determination of N‐terminal amino acid sequences of these NoVBPs revealed that hydrophobic interactions could contribute to the adsorption between NoVBPs and norovirus particles. Conclusions: NoVBPs conferring a high affinity to norovirus GII were successfully isolated from activated sludge micro‐organisms. In this study, we investigated whether orally administered nitrite is changed to NO and whether nitrite attenuates hypertension in a dose-dependent manner. We utilized a stable isotope of [15N]nitrite (15NO2-) as a source of nitrite to distinguish between endogenous nitrite and that exogenously administered and measured hemoglobin (Hb)-NO as an index of circulating NO in whole blood using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. When 1 mg/kg Na15NO2 was orally administered to rats, an apparent EPR signal derived from Hb15NO (A(Z) = 23.4 gauss) appeared in the blood. The peak blood HbNO concentration occurred at the first measurement after intake (5 min) for treatment with 1 and 3 mg/kg (HbNO: 4.93 +/- 0.52 and 10.58 +/- 0.40 microM, respectively) and at 15 min with 10 mg/kg (HbNO: 38.27 +/- 9.23 microM). In addition, coadministration of nitrite (100 mg/l drinking water) with N(omega)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME; 1 g/l) for 3 wk significantly attenuated the L-NAME-induced hypertension (149 +/- 10 mmHg) compared with L-NAME alone (170 +/- 13 mmHg). Furthermore, this phenomenon was associated with an increase in circulating HbNO. Our findings clearly indicate that orally ingested nitrite can be an alternative to L-arginine as a source of NO in vivo and may explain, at least in part, the mechanism of the nitrite/nitrate-rich Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet-induced hypotensive effects. 相似文献

-alanine was detected in a cell extract of the fruit-body of an edible basidiomycetous mushroom, Lentinus edodes (Shiitake), by means of reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. We also found an amino acid racemase activity in L. edodes fruit-body, and purified the enzyme. The enzyme has a molecular weight of approximately 86,000, and consists of two subunits of identical molecular weight (44,000). The optimal pH of the enzyme activity is around pH 9.5 for both

alanine racemization. The enzyme requires pyridoxal 5′-phosphate as a cofactor. Km and Vmax values for
-alanine were 37.3 mM and 520 nmol/min/mg, respectively; for

Feeding conditions, competitive regime, and female social relationships of Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata) on Yakushima were compared between the two habitats at two different altitudes (coniferous forest, 1,000–1,200 m and coastal
forest, 0–200 m). Fruit availability was higher in the coastal forest. There was no consistent difference in the frequency
of agonistic interactions within a group during feeding between the two habitats. The coastal forest evoked stronger inter-group
contest competition compared to the coniferous forest as evidenced by a higher inter-group encounter rate and a higher proportion
of aggressive encounters to non-aggressive ones. Birth rate was higher in larger groups compared to smaller ones in the coastal
forest, but did not differ in the coniferous forest. In spite of these differences in competitive regime, no variation in
female social relationships was observed, such as direction and concentration on particular individuals in grooming, linearity
in dominance rank, counter-attack, and support of juvenile kin during agonistic interactions. The present results indicate
that the female social relationships of Japanese macaques are robust and do not change according to changes in the current

When aromatic hydrocarbon (Ah)-responsive and -non-responsive strains of mice were pretreated with 3-methylcholanthrene (MC) or 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD), vitamin C reduced the microsomal aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) activity. The AHH inhibitors 7,8-benzoflavone (7,8-BF) and 3-methylsulfonyl-3',4,4',5-tetrachlorobiphenyl (3-MSF-3',4,4',5-tetraCB) showed various inhibitory effects depending upon the types of microsomes, whereas vitamin C exhibited inhibition irrespective of the types of microsomes. 7,8-BF and 3-MSF-3',4,4',5-tetraCB as well as vitamin C suppressed the reverse mutation of the Salmonella typhimurium tester strains TA98 and TA100 induced by benzo[a]pyrene. 相似文献

Abstract We have performed molecular dynamics simulations for liquid n-butane in order to understand liquid structures in terms of both inter- and intra-molecular interactions. Each n-butane molecule consists of four sites interacting with LJ potential and only a dihedral angle is taken into account as the internal degree of freedom. The population of gauche conformations with respect to the ideal gas state is found to increase in the liquid state. To investigate how the intermolecular interaction affects the dihedral angle distribution, we also adopt the repulsive LJ potential (RLJ) model. It is found that the nearest neighbor packing of the methyl and/or methylene groups can be approximately represented by using only the repulsive interaction. From the dihedral angle distribution, however, the rate of the shift of RLJ model to gauche is larger than that of LJ model and the attractive force also plays a significant role in the conformational equilibrium. 相似文献

Several oxidizing agents were examined for their ability to demethylthiolate adenosine- and cytidine 5′-S-methyl phosphorothiolates.Iodine dissolved in an aqueous potassium iodide solution or in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was the most effective demethylthiolating agent of those tested in the present study, rapidly giving the demethylthiolated products in quantitative yields. The iodine-DMSO solution demethyl-thiolated the ribonucleoside 5′-S-methyl phosphorothiolates to give ribonucleoside 5′-monophosphates even under anhydrous conditions, DMSO acting as an oxygen donor in this reaction.Hydrogen peroxide has high demethylthiolating ability in spite of its low reaction rate. Isoamyl nitrite, an effective demethylthiolating agent for O-alkyl S-methyl phosphorothiolates, was not effective for the demethylthiolation of ribonucleoside 5′-S-methyl phosphorothiolates, because the unprotected amino groups of the S-methyl nucleotides were attacked by the reagent to give deaminated products. N-Chlorosuccinimide had no effect on the demethylthiolation of S-methyl phosphorothiolates. 相似文献

A serine protease with caspase- and legumain-like activities from basidiocarps of the edible basidiomycete Flammulina velutipes was characterized. The protease was purified to near homogeneity by three steps of chromatography using acetyl-Tyr-Val-Ala-Asp-4-methylcoumaryl-7-amide (Ac-YVAD-MCA) as a substrate. The enzyme was termed FvSerP (F. velutipes serine protease). This enzyme activity was completely inhibited by the caspase-specific inhibitor, Ac-YVAD-CHO, as well as moderately inhibited by serine protease inhibitors. Based on the N-terminal sequence, the cDNA of FvSerP was identified. The deduced protease sequence was a peptide composed of 325 amino acids with a molecular mass of 34.5 kDa. The amino acid sequence of FvSerP showed similarity to neither caspases nor to the plant subtilisin-like serine protease with caspase-like activity called saspase. FvSerP shared identity to the functionally unknown genes from class of Agaricomycetes, with similarity to the peptidase S41 domain of a serine protease. It was thus concluded that this enzyme is likely a novel serine protease with caspase- and legumain-like activities belonging to the peptidase S41 family and distributed in the class Agaricomycetes. This enzyme possibly functions in autolysis, a type of programmed cell death that occurs in the later stages of development of basidiocarps with reference to their enzymatic functions. 相似文献

In Atropa belladonna hairy roots, exogeneously added salicylic acid (SA) is converted to methyl salicylate (MSA) through the reaction, which might be catalysed by S-adenosyl-L-methionine: salicylic acid carboxyl methyltransferase (SAMT). Here we cloned a cDNA for A. belladonna SAMT (AbSAMT1), which consisted of 357 aa residues. It was expressed in E. coli, and the recombinant AbSAMT1 showed SAMT activity. When A. belladonna hairy roots were exposed to a high concentration of SA, AbSAMT1 mRNA begins to be expressed 12 h after the exposure, and steady expression continued over 144 h. 相似文献
