Anastatus sp. (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae) is reported as the first chalcidoid wasp which parasitizes eggs of Lycorma delicatula, an invasive species spreading rapidly in South Korea. The wasp appears to be a solitary endoparasitoid. The present paper also describes its oviposition and host feeding behaviour.  相似文献

Pheromone biosynthesis-activating neuropeptide (PBAN) stimulates sex pheromone biosynthesis by activating PBAN receptor (PBANr), which triggers a specific signal transduction in the pheromone gland cells. We have shown that RNA interference (RNAi) of PBANr of Plutella xylostella significantly suppressed pheromone biosynthesis and subsequent mating behavior. In order to assess molecular events occurring downstream of PBAN signaling, we cloned partial sequences of Δ9 and Δ11 fatty acid desaturases of P. xylostella. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that these two desaturase genes were highly clustered with other desaturases associated with sex pheromone biosynthesis in other insects. RT-PCR analysis showed that Δ9 desaturase was dominantly expressed in adult females, whereas Δ11 desaturase was expressed in all P. xylostella developmental stages. When PBANr expression was suppressed by PBANr-RNAi, the treated females also showed significant suppression of expression of both desaturases. These results suggest that expressions of the two desaturases are controlled by PBAN and that the two desaturases may be involved as downstream components in sex pheromone biosynthesis of P. xylostella.  相似文献

Many terrestrial arthropods display tight osmotic and ionic regulation of the hemolymph during dehydration. In this study, we sought to quantify the level of regulation of the major hemolymph cations in the terrestrial isopod Armadillidium vulgare (Isopoda, Oniscidea). Inulin space measurements showed that the hemolymph comprises 52 ± 2.2% of the hydrated water content but contributes 71 ± 9.8% of water losses during desiccation. Hemolymph concentrations of Na+, K+ and Ca2+ were measured in variably dehydrated animals using ion-selective microelectrodes and compared with predicted concentrations assuming no regulation. Na+ and Ca2+ are quite tightly regulated, showing respective concentration increases of 20.8% and 7.1% following a 50% reduction in hemolymph volume, but K+ showed no measurable regulation. The excreted cation fraction during desiccation is negligible. Sites of ion sequestration were examined by injecting 22Na and ??Ca into the hemolymph of hydrated animals and assaying tissue-specific activities following dehydration. Na+ is apparently sequestered non-specifically by an unknown mechanism. Ca2+ accumulates in the dorsal somatic tissues, possibly in the calcium pool of the cuticle. How A. vulgare avoids significant disruptions of E(m) and neuromuscular function in the absence of K+ regulation, and how it sequesters Na+, both pose intriguing challenges for future work.  相似文献

Andrographis paniculata (hempedu bumi) is a plant that possesses many medicinal values in treating several diseases and for health care maintenance. However, its hepatoprotective activity and mechanism of action have not been fully investigated. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the hepatoprotective effects of A. paniculata and its mechanism of action in rats. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)) challenge of rats at a dose of 1.2 ml/kg body weight-induced oxidative stress in the liver. This was evidenced by augmentation in lipid peroxidation, which was accompanied by a decrease in the activities of antioxidant enzymes and depletion in the level of reduced glutathione (P < 0.05). Parrallel to these changes, CCl(4) challenge too, enhanced hepatic damage as evidenced by sharp increase in serum transaminases (e.g. alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and lactate dehydrogenase) (P < 0.05). Additionally, the impairment of liver function corresponded to histolopathological changes. However, most of these changes were reversed in a dose-dependent fashion by pre-treatment of animals with A. paniculata (P < 0.05). The ability of A. paniculata to scavenge the 2,2-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical was determined through its EC(50) value. The EC(50) value of A. paniculata was 583.60 ± 4.25 μg/ml. In addition, A. paniculata was found to contain 65.37 ± 1.20 mg/g total phenolics expressed as gallic acid equivalent. From these studies, it is concluded that A. paniculata could be used as a hepatoprotective agent and possesses the potential to treat or prevent degenerative diseases where oxidative stress is implicated.  相似文献

Background  

Helicobacter pylori infection is one of the most common infections worldwide and is associated with gastric cancer and peptic ulcer. Bacterial virulence factors such as CagA have been shown to increase the risk of both diseases. Studies have suggested a causal role for CagA EPIYA polymorphisms in gastric carcinogenesis, and it has been shown to be geographically diverse. We studied associations between H. pylori CagA EPIYA patterns and gastric cancer and duodenal ulcer, in an ethnically admixed Western population from Brazil. CagA EPIYA was determined by PCR and confirmed by sequencing. A total of 436 patients were included, being 188 with gastric cancer, 112 with duodenal ulcer and 136 with gastritis.  相似文献

Cell-to-cell communication (quorum sensing (QS)) co-ordinates bacterial behaviour at a population level. Consequently the behaviour of a natural multi-species community is likely to depend at least in part on co-existing QS and quorum quenching (QQ) activities. Notch signaling mediates the fates of numerous cells in both invertebrates and vertebrates. In the immune system, Notch signalling contributes to the generation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), the promotion of HSC self-renewal, T lineage commitment, intrathymic T cell development, and peripheral lymphocyte differentiation/activation. The intracellular domain (ICD) of Notch is released from the cell membrane by γ-secretase and translocates to the nucleus to modulate gene expression. Hence, γ-secretase plays a central role in the regulation of Notch signaling. More than five dozen type 1 transmembrane proteins, including amyloid precursor protein, Notch, and Delta, are substrates for γ-secretase and their ICDs are released from the cell membrane. Therefore, it is highly possible that mechanisms similar to Notch signaling may widely contribute to γ-secretase-regulated signaling. Besides Notch, some transmembrane proteins such as CD44 and CSF-1R, which are important for immune responses, have been reported as substrates for γ-secretase. Since the ICDs of these proteins are also released by γ-secretase from the cell membrane and localize to the nucleus, it is thought that these ICDs modulate gene expression. Thus, γ-secretase-regulated signaling, including Notch signaling, may play a wide range of roles in the immune system.  相似文献

Animal physiology, ecology and evolution are affected by temperature and it is expected that community structure will be strongly influenced by global warming. This is particularly relevant in the tropics, where organisms are already living close to their upper temperature limits and hence are highly vulnerable to rising temperature. Here we present data on upper temperature limits of 34 tropical marine ectotherm species from seven phyla living in intertidal and subtidal habitats. Short term thermal tolerances and vertical distributions were correlated, i.e., upper shore animals have higher thermal tolerance than lower shore and subtidal animals; however, animals, despite their respective tidal height, were susceptible to the same temperature in the long term. When temperatures were raised by 1°C hour(-1), the upper lethal temperature range of intertidal ectotherms was 41-52°C, but this range was narrower and reduced to 37-41°C in subtidal animals. The rate of temperature change, however, affected intertidal and subtidal animals differently. In chronic heating experiments when temperature was raised weekly or monthly instead of every hour, upper temperature limits of subtidal species decreased from 40°C to 35.4°C, while the decrease was more than 10°C in high shore organisms. Hence in the long term, activity and survival of tropical marine organisms could be compromised just 2-3°C above present seawater temperatures. Differences between animals from environments that experience different levels of temperature variability suggest that the physiological mechanisms underlying thermal sensitivity may vary at different rates of warming.  相似文献
