Corals are sessile eukaryotic hosts which provide a unique surface for microbial colonization. Culture independent studies
show that the coral mucus and tissue harbour diverse and abundant prokaryotic communities. However, little is known about
the diversity of bacteria associated with the corals of Gulf of Mannar. The present study characterised the bacterial diversity
associated with the mucus of the coral Acropora digitifera from the Gulf of Mannar by 16S rRNA gene clone library construction. The bacterial communities of the mucus of A. digitifera were diverse, with representatives within the Alphaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Firmicutes and several unclassified bacteria. The culture independent bacterial population was totally different from our previous culture
dependent study of the mucus and tissue of the same coral. 36% of the bacteria in the clone library of A. digitifera were found to be novel after full length sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene wherein several clones were found to be novel at
the Genus and species level. The current study further supports the findings that Actinobacteria amount to a certain proportion among bacterial communities associated with corals. 相似文献

Many of the mitoses that produce pyramidal neurons in neocortex occur at the dorsolateral surface of the lateral ventricles in the embryo. RanBPM was found in a yeast two‐hybrid screen to potentially interact with citron kinase (CITK), a protein shown previously to localize to the surface of the lateral ventricles and to be essential to neurogenic mitoses. Similar to its localization in epithelia, RanBPM protein is concentrated at the adherens junctions in developing neocortex. The biochemical interaction between CITK and RanBPM was confirmed in coimmunoprecipitation and protein overlay experiments. To test for a functional role of RanPBM in vivo, we used in utero RNAi. RanBPM RNAi decreased the polarization of CITK to the ventricular surface, increased the number of cells in mitosis, and decreased the number of cells in cytokinesis. Finally, the effect of RanBPM knockdown on mitosis was reversed in embryos mutant for CITK. Together, these results indicate that RanBPM, potentially through interaction with CITK, plays a role in the progression of neocortical precursors through M‐phase at the ventricular surface. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Streptococcus pyogenes is the frequent cause of purulent infections in humans. Formation of a biofilm is one of the important aspects of its pathogenicity. Streptococcus pyogenes biofilm communities tend to exhibit significant tolerance to antimicrobial challenge during infections. Exploring novel targets against biofilm-forming pathogens is therefore an important alternative treatment measure. We attempted to screen marine bacteria, especially coral-associated bacteria (CAB), for antibiofilm activity against streptococcal biofilm formation. The bacterial biofilms were quantified by crystal violet staining. Of 43 CAB isolates, nine clearly demonstrated antibiofilm activity. At biofilm inhibitory concentrations (BIC), biofilm formation was reduced up to 80%, and sub-BIC (0.5 and 0.25 BIC) significantly reduced biofilm formation by up to 60% and 40–60%, respectively. Extracts of Bacillus horikoshii (E6) displayed efficient antibiofilm activity. As quorum sensing (QS) and cell surface hydrophobicity (CSH) are crucial factors for biofilm formation in S. pyogenes , the CAB were further screened for QS inhibition properties and CSH reduction properties.
