Several extended-release methylphenidate medications are available for treatment of children with ADHD. Pharmacokinetic investigations suggest that the serum levels of methylphenidate are partially altered when the medication is taken without breakfast. Clinical data comparing different breakfast situations are missing. In this study, different breakfast compositions and their influence on treatment with Ritalin LA are investigated. A total of 150 patients were enrolled in a rater-blinded, randomized crossover trial that compared a minimal breakfast with a standard breakfast in patients under stable treatment with Ritalin LA. Ratings for clinical efficacy were carried out after 1 week by teachers and parents (FBB-ADHS), as well as physicians (CGI). Additionally, a math test was administered to the patients. Of the total patients, 144 finished the trial with a breakfast compliance of 93%. All of the clinical rating scales showed consistently no difference between the two breakfast conditions. Non-inferiority of minimal breakfast versus standard breakfast was shown to be statistically significant (FBB-AHDS(Teacher): 0.97 with minimal breakfast, 1.01 with standard breakfast, P < 0.0001). The clinical efficacy of Ritalin LA is not influenced by breakfast and works independently of food intake. 相似文献

Soluble proteins extracted with Tris-buffer pH 8.8 from different mosses are analysed by microgelelectrophoretic method for comparison to the specific proteins present only in the caulonema of Funaria hygrometrica. The protein patterns are also compared with those of liverwort, fern gametophytes and sporophytes and tobacco. Plant small GTPases belonging to the Rop, Arf, and Rab families are regulators of vesicle trafficking. Rop GTPases regulate actin dynamics and modulate H(2)O(2) production in polar cell growth and pathogen defence. A candidate Rop GDP to Rop GTP exchange factor (RopGEF) SPIKE1 is involved in the morphogenesis of leaf epidermal cells. The ArfGEF GNOM regulates the endosomal recycling of the PIN proteins, which are involved in polar auxin transport. Intracellular localisation of small GTPases and functional studies using dominant mutant versions of Arf and Rab GTPases are defining novel plant-specific membrane compartments, especially those that participate in endosomal vesicle trafficking. 相似文献

Two Giemsa banding methods (C banding and RB banding) are described which selectively stain the centromere bands of polytene salivary gland chromosomes in a number of Chironomus species. — By the C banding method the polytene chromosome appearance is changed grossly. Chromosome bands, as far as they are identifiable, are stained pale with the exception of the centromere bands and in some cases telomeres, which then are intensely stained reddish blue. — By the RB method the centromere bands are stained bright blue, whereas the remainder of the polytene bands stain red to red-violet. — Contrary to all other species examined, in Chironomus th. thummi numerous interstitial polytene chromosome bands, in addition to the centromere regions, are positively C banded and blue stained by RB banding. In the hybrid of Ch. th. thummi x Ch. th. piger only those interstitial thummi bands which are known to have a greater DNA content than their homologous piger bands are C banding positive and blue stained by the RB method whereas the homologous piger bands are C banding negative and red stained by RB banding. Ch. thummi and piger bands with an equal amount of DNA both show no C banding and stain red by RB banding. — It seems that the Giemsa banding methods used are capable of demonstrating, in addition to centromeric heterochromatin, heterochromatin in those interstitial polytene chromosome bands whose DNA content has been increased during chromosome evolution. 相似文献

We have examined the molecular basis of Segawa's syndrome in six families with seven affected children. In one family two siblings with this disease carried a point mutation in exon 11 of the tyrosine hydroxylase gene, resulting in an amino acid exchange of Gln381 to Lys381. These results suggest that a change in tyrosine hydroxylase causes this form of Segawa's syndrome. 相似文献

This is the first study to perform a simultaneous analysis of the activity of photosystem 1 and photosystem 2 after long-term exposure to elevated temperature. It was found that the quantum yield of photochemical reactions decreases in both photosystems. It is shown that, in photosystem 2, the regulated nonphotochemical quenching decreases whereas the unregulated non-photochemical quenching increases. Aims and Methods Disturbance is supposed to play an important role for biodiversity and ecosystem stability as described by the intermediate disturbance hypothesis (IDH), which predicts highest species richness at intermediate levels of disturbances. In this study, we tested the effects of artificial soil disturbances on diversity of annual and perennial vascular plants and bryophytes in a field experiment in 86 agricultural grasslands differing in land use in two regions of Germany. On each grassland, we implemented four treatments: three treatments differing in application time of soil disturbances and one control. One year after experimental disturbance, we recorded vegetation and measured biomass productivity and bare ground. We analysed the disturbance response taking effects of region and land-use-accompanied disturbance regimes into account.Important findings Region and land-use type strongly determined plant species richness. Experimental disturbances had small positive effects on the species richness of annuals, but none on perennials or bryophytes. Bare ground was positively related to species richness of bryophytes. However, exceeding the creation of 12% bare ground further disturbance had a detrimental effect on bryophyte species richness, which corresponds to the IDH. As biomass productivity was unaffected by disturbance our results indicate that the disturbance effect on species richness of annuals was not due to decreased overall productivity, but rather due to short-term lowered inter- and intraspecific competition at the newly created microsites. Generally, our results highlight the importance of soil disturbances for species richness of annual plants and bryophytes in agricultural grasslands. However, most grasslands were disturbed naturally or by land-use practices and our additional experimental soil disturbances only had a small short-term effect. Overall, total plant diversity in grasslands seemed to be more limited by the availability of propagules rather than by suitable microsites for germination. Thus, nature conservation efforts to increase grassland diversity should focus on overcoming propagule limitation, for instance by additional sowing of seeds, while the creation of additional open patches by disturbance might only be appropriate where natural disturbances are scarce. 相似文献
