It was shown previously that peripherally administered antagonists of the central 1 M-cholinoreceptors led to a selective impairment of bar-pressing response in a food-reinforced operant conditioned task but did not alter contextual behavior and functions such as motivation, perception, and locomotion. To obtain information about the central mechanisms of the conditioning impairment, we recorded simultaneously the extracellular multiunit activity from the frontal and motor neocortical areas of five cats trained to acquisition criteria in a food-reinforced operant conditioning task. Multiunit recordings were performed drur 1) normal conditioning; 2) conditioning during subcutaneous administration of muscarinic antagonists scopolamine (0.03 mg/kg), trihexyphenidyl (1 mg/kg), and methylscopolamine (0.03 mg/kg). Autocorrelation analysis showed that scopolamine and trihexyphenidyl but not methylscopolamine led to a significant increase in the tendency of cortical cells to fire in a cyclic way (i.e., the shift of the firing pattern from a single-spike discharge to burst, rhythmic, or rhythmic-burst discharge) both in the motor and frontal areas. Cross-correlation analysis showed that the bursting and rhythmic-bursting cells synchronized their activity within and (in a number of cases) between the cortical areas. These changes in the neuronal activity within the motor cortex and frontal cortex were accompanied by a significant decrease in the functional connectivity both inside and between the cortical areas in parallel with selective impairment of the conditioned response.  相似文献

The current state of zooplankton in the large lake system of Bol??shezemel??skaya tundra was determined in comparison with data from the 1960s. It was found that the annual dynamics of plankton communities took place, but their composition and structure were saved. However, some current features of tundra-lake zooplankton can be indicative of the directed development of ecosystems and the start of their eutrophication. These processes take place against the background of the attenuation of the anthropogenic impact on water bodies and certain trends in climate change. The studied lakes were oligo- and mesotrophic.  相似文献

The spiny mouse Acomys cahirinus produces well-developed pups although it is a relatively small mammal (45 g). We envisioned two opposing hypotheses on the effect of early weaning on the growth rate of pups. The first predicts little effect since the increase in energy intake of dams above non-reproducing females is relatively low, suggesting that pups consume a large portion of their energy as solid food, and the pups are very well developed at birth. The second predicts a substantial effect since the 'index of precociality', that is the energy intake for maintenance of a pup as a proportion of that predicted for a rodent of its body mass, falls within values for altricial rodents, suggesting an extended maternal dependence of the young. To test these hypotheses, we measured the growth rate and food intake of pups weaned after either 7, 14, 21 or 28 days. Only three of 12 pups weaned after 7 days survived and, consequently, the latter hypothesis was supported. All pups weaned at 14–28 days survived. There was a significant decrease in growth rate during the first day after weaning in pups weaned at 7, 14 and 21 days but not after 28 days, suggesting that pups did not require parental care by day 28. Peak growth rate in pups weaned at 14 days occurred in the second week but occurred in the third week in pups weaned at 21 and 28 days. In spite of these differences, pups in all treatments had similar body mass at 64 days, indicating compensatory growth. We concluded that pups of A. cahirinus are precocial from a morphological aspect in that they are well developed at birth but altricial from a nutritional aspect in that they require extended maternal support.  相似文献

Genetic transfer factors pAP38, pAP39 and pAP41 can be transferred to E. coli, both typed and untypecd, as well as to Erwinia and Hafnia strains, with different frequency (10(-2) to 10(-8)). The transconjugates thus obtained possess donor activity and can transfer the factors they have received to recipient E. coli strains. After transfer these factors are stably maintained in a new host for at least 10 days. Under the action of ethidium bromide or elevated temperature the elimination of the transfer factors from host bacteria is observed. Host specificity is often measured as the number of host species used by a parasite, or as their phylogenetic diversity; both of these measures ignore the larger scale component of host use by parasites. A parasite may exploit very few host species in one locality but these hosts may be substituted for completely different species elsewhere; in contrast, another parasite may exploit many host species in one locality, with the identity of these hosts remaining the same throughout the parasite’s geographical range. To capture these spatial nuances of host specificity, we propose to use an index for host species turnover across localities, or beta-specificity (βSPF), that is derived from studies of spatial patterns in plant and animal diversity. We apply this index to fleas parasitic on small mammals to show that: (i) it is statistically independent of traditional or “local” measures of host specificity as well as of “global” measures of host specificity, and (ii) it is also independent of the size of the geographical area studied or the sampling effort put into collecting hosts and parasites. Furthermore, the distribution of βSPF values among flea species shows a significant phylogenetic signal, i.e. related flea species have more similar βSPF values than expected by chance. Nevertheless, most possible combinations of either local specificity (alpha-specificity) or global (gamma-specificity) and beta-specificity are observed among flea species, suggesting that adding a spatial component to studies of host use reveals a new facet of specificity. The measure presented here provides a new perspective on host specificity on a scale relevant to studies on topics ranging from biogeography to evolution and may underlie the rate and extent of disease transmission and population dynamics.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to determine whether sexual size dimorphism in fleas and gamasid mites (i) conforms to Rensch’s rule (allometry of sexual size dimorphism) and (ii) covaries with sex ratio in infrapopulations (conspecific parasites harboured by an individual host), xenopopulations (conspecific parasites harboured by a population of a given host species in a locality) and suprapopulations (conspecific parasites harboured by an entire host community in a locality). Rensch’s rule in sexual size dimorphism was tested across 150 flea and 55 mite species, whereas covariation between sexual size dimorphism and sex ratio was studied using data on ectoparasites collected from small mammalian hosts in Slovakia and western Siberia. For fleas, we controlled for the confounding effect of phylogeny. The slope of the linear regression of female size on male size was significantly smaller than 1 in fleas, but did not differ from 1 in mites. The proportion of males in flea infrapopulations significantly increased with an increase in the female-to-male body size ratio. The same was true for obligatory haematophagous mites. No relationship between sex ratio and sexual size dimorphism was found for xenopopulations of either taxon or for mite suprapopulations. However, when controlling for the confounding effect of phylogeny, a significant negative correlation between sex ratio and sexual size dimorphism was revealed for flea suprapopulations. We conclude that (i) some macroecological patterns differ between ectoparasite taxa exploiting the same hosts (allometry in sexual size dimorphism), whereas other patterns are similar (sexual size dimorphism-sex ratio relationship in infrapopulations), and (ii) some patterns are scale-dependent and may demonstrate the opposite trends in parasite populations at different hierarchical levels.  相似文献
