Materials and Methods: In in vitro experiments, Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) biofilms were exposed to ultrasonic waves at various frequencies (280 kHz, 1 MHz, or 2 MHz), duty ratios (0–90%), and exposure times (1–3 minutes), and the optimal conditions for biofilm removal were identified. Furthermore, the effect of adding a contrast medium, such as micro bubbles (Sonazoid®), was examined. The spatial distribution and architecture of S. mutans biofilms before and after ultrasonic wave exposure were examined via scanning electron microscopy. The biofilm removal effect was also examined in in vivo experiments, using a custom‐made oral cleaning device. Results: When a 280 kHz probe was used, the biofilm‐removing effect increased significantly compared to 1 and 2 MHz probes; more than 80% of the adherent biofilm was removed with a duty cycle of 50–90% and a 3 minutes exposure time. The maximum biofilm‐removing effect was observed with a duty cycle of 80%. Furthermore, the addition of micro bubbles enhanced this biofilm‐removing effect. In in vivo experiments, moderate biofilm removal was observed when a 280 kHz probe was used for 5 minutes. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that ultrasonic wave exposure in a non‐contact mode effectively removed adherent biofilms composed of S. mutans in vitro. 相似文献

ObjectiveThyroid nodules are common, being detected in 19% to 67% of the population. A fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is recommended for suspicious thyroid nodules to rule out malignancy; however, the procedure can be painful for subsets of patients. It remains unclear what factors are more likely to be associated with pain during FNAB. This literature review aimed to investigate patient-, procedure-, and analgesic-related factors that affect pain levels during thyroid nodule FNAB.MethodsPredefined inclusion and exclusion criteria were set to search the Embase, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Cochrane databases. The articles evaluating the factors affecting pain during FNAB were assessed for inclusion. The primary outcome of interest was scores evaluating pain level during FNAB.ResultsTwenty-two studies were included. The studies were a mix of cohort studies, randomized controlled trials, and clinical controlled trials. Under patient-related factor, nodule calcification was associated with increasing pain. The procedure-related factors potentially increasing pain included the number of needle passes and utilization of the aspiration technique (as opposed to capillary action), perpendicular needle placement (as opposed to parallel), and not using safety devices. Larger needle size, type of biopsy, operator expertise, and patient education did not appear to be correlated with pain. Subcutaneous lidocaine appeared to provide better pain relief than a topical analgesic.ConclusionWith increasing use of FNAB as the diagnostic test of choice for assessing thyroid nodules, understanding patient-, procedure-, and analgesic-related factors associated with optimal patient satisfaction is imperative. 相似文献

Effect of addition of sodium alginate (alginate) to milk on the storage modulus (G′), water holding capacity (WHC) and hardness of rennet gels was evaluated as a function of alginate (0–0.25 g/100 g) and fat (0.5–3.0 g/100 g) concentrations. There was a significant effect of alginate addition on ionic calcium in milk and whey (Ca2+), and particle size distribution in alginate added milk. Results showed a positive correlation of alginate with WHC; negative correlation of alginate and positive correlation of fat with G′; and negative correlation of interaction of fat and alginate with gel hardness of rennet gels. Hence, the rennet gels with lower fat content and higher added alginate tended to be softer due to the high water holding capacity of the alginate particles. 相似文献
