A low molecular weight fraction from chitinase digested cell walls ofT. mentagrophytes containing both polysaccharide and peptide moieties was found to have immunological reactivity at both the cellular and humoral level. This fraction (UM2(a)) was further degraded by treatment with either a combination of pronase and carboxypeptidase A or with trypsin. Peptides were separated from the carbohydrate-rich fraction by ultrafiltration. The carbohydrate-rich fraction retained the ability to induce both immediate and delayed skin reactions in sensitized guinea pigs and to stimulate the proliferation of sensitized lymphocytesin vitro. The peptide moieties retained reactivity in that they caused delayed reactions and lymphocyte proliferation but were unable to induce immediate or Arthus reactions in sensitized animals. Tryptic peptides from UM2(a) were purified by ion exchange chromatography. A high proportion of these peptides demonstrated immunological activity at both the cellular and humoral level since they were capable of inducing delayed reactions and/or lymphocyte transformation, as well as being capable of blocking the complement fixation reaction between UM2 (a) and specific antiserum.This work was supported by grant number 6411 from the Medical Research Council of Canada.A. The results of electron microscopic studies have shown that the 16--18 days old rat embryos already have in the hypophysiotropic area some structures necessary for the realization of neuroendocrine regulations. In the arcuate nuclei, the neurosecretory cells differentiate which are capable to synthesize specific neurosecretory granules of 800--1,000 A in diameter. In the median eminence, the primary portal capillaries develop with which tanicytes and a few axon terminals make contact. One can see in the tanicytes the signs of active transport and accumulation of electron dense polymorphic material. All these phenomena are strengthen during the subsequent development. Hence, several days are before birth the neurosecretory and glial elements of the embryos show the signs of functional activity which strengthen during ontogenesis and are expressed most distinctly in the adult animals. 相似文献

The majority of actinomycetes belonging to various genera proved to be resistant to nalidixic acid concentrations having an inhibitory effect on bacteria with trailing growth i.e. B. subtilis and B. mycoides. The bacteria prevented isolation of actinomycetes as pure cultures. The use of a selective medium with nalidixic acid for isolation of soil actinomycetes resulted in 20 per cent increase in the number of the actinomycetes isolated as pure cultures. Preliminary treatment of the soil samples with calcium carbonate under moist conditions followed by the inoculation to the medium with nalidixic acid made it possible to increase isolation of actinomycetes at most 100-fold. With this complex method 495 actinomycete cultures were isolated, their antibiotic properties were studied and their taxonomic position at the genus level was determined. The complex method including the preliminary treatment of soil samples with calcium carbonate followed by inoculation to the selective medium with nalidixic acid is efficient and may be recommended for screening organisms producing new antibiotics. 相似文献

The effect of hypothalamus electrical stimulation on total protein biosynthesis was studied in skeletal muscle, heart, liver, adrenal cortex and thyroid gland of adult rats. In adult animals hypothalamus stimulation provokes a pronounced increase in 3H-leucine incorporation into total protein of all tissues, as well as into liver chromatin proteins. No significant changes were observed in protein biosynthesis when hypothalamus of old rats was stimulated.
