Fleas of the Moiynkum Desert and their epizootic significance

The species composition of fleas in the Moiynkum Desert (Chu-Talas interfluve) and indices of their domination on different hosts was established on the basis of long-term observations (1973–2000). The most significant and prolonged changes in the population density of mass flea species (Xenopsylla gerbilli minax and Coptopsylla lamellifer, parasites of the great gerbil) occur in association with changes of the population density of rodents. Changes in the population density of rodents are usually observed year after similar changes in the population density of hosts. The leading role in the transmission of the plague vector belongs to the flea X. gerbilli minax.     

On a helminthofauna of sheeps from the desert ecosystems of Southern Uzbekistan

In the course of helminthological studies of sheep in south Uzbekistan, 44 helminth species have been revealed. Biocenotical relations between helminth and sheep in desert ecosystems of the south Uzbekistan have been examined.     

ESEEM and Mössbauer studies of the ferriheme model compound bis(3-aminopyrazole)tetraphenylporphyrinatoiron(III) chloride, [TPPFe(NH2PzH)2]Cl

A model heme complex, bis(3-aminopyrazole)tetraphenylporphinatoiron(III) chloride, [TPPFe (NH₂PzH)₂]Cl, for which the EPR g-values lead to a rhombicity V/Δ=1.2 if g _zz is the largest g-value, have been investigated by electron spin echo envelope modulation (ESEEM) and Mössbauer spectroscopies. The ESEEM studies focus on the proton sum frequency peaks at near twice the proton Larmor frequency. Analysis of the distant proton peak (mainly due to the pyrrole-H) at exactly twice the proton Larmor frequency shows conclusively that g _zz is aligned along the normal to the porphyrin plane, and thus the electron configuration is (d _xy )²(d _xz ,d _yz )³, with g _zz >g _yy >g _xx . This system is thus another violation to Taylor's "proper axis system" rule. The near proton (the α-H and N-H of the axial ligands) peaks provide distance information for those protons from the metal. Magnetic Mössbauer studies of the same complex confirm the (d _xy )²(d _xz ,d _yz )³ ground state and indicate that, as is the case for cytochrome P450_cam, A _xx is the largest magnitude A-value, and is negative in sign. Other low-spin iron(III) porphyrinates also have A _xx of negative sign, but usually the magnitude is only about half that of A _zz , which is always positive in sign.     

The effect of scopolamine on the spatial organization of rat cortical potentials

The influence of scopolamine (1 mg/kg, i.p.) on the spatial organization of the neocortical electrical activity was studied in rats. A decrease in the spectral power and coherence of brain potentials in the range of the dominant theta-rhythm peak (6.00-7.25 Hz) and their increase in the adjacent low-frequency band were observed. Both indices were decreased in the wide beta band (19.00-30.00 Hz). The described changes took place over the whole areas of the right hemisphere and parieto-temporal region of the left hemisphere. The obtained results are discussed with respect to the role of the cholinergic brain system in the higher nervous activity.     

Viral hepatitis E: its epidemiological characteristics in the Republic of Tajikistan

The characteristic feature of the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as other republics of Central Asia, is the wide spread of virus hepatitis E. The epidemiology of this grave disease, recently known as virus hepatitis non A, non B with the fecal-oral mechanism of transmission of this infection, has been yet insufficiently studied. The article points out to the specific character of this infection which essentially differs, both epidemiologically and clinically, from other enteric hepatitis (hepatitis A), also hyperendemic for the republic. The results of the study of the immunostructure of the population with respect to both hepatitis E and hepatitis A are presented.
