Endemische Phytoassoziationen aus den Rumänischen Karpaten

The importance of endemic species for plant communities in the Roumanian Carpathians Mts. has been studied and discussed. Associations of the classAsplenietea trichomanis endemic in the South Carpathians were surveyed; they were classified into some endemic alliances (Gypsophilion petraeae, Micromerion pulegii, andSilenion lerchenfeldianae). Their locus classicus, nomenclatoric type and present distribution were also given.     

Wingea,a new genus of the Saccharomycetaceae

The yeast species previously described asPichia robertsii v. d. Walt has been transferred to the new genusWingea. The diagnosis for the genus is given.     

A computer analysis of electrophoresis and ultracentrifugation patterns.

A program DIANA is designed to fit the scanning curves of electrophoresis and ultracentrifugation patterns with 10-15 overlapping peaks by a sum of Gaussian-like distribitions. The parameters of the distributions are adjusted by minimizing x, using a problem oriented minimizing procedure. The number of molecular components as well as starting values of the positions and the widths of the peaks must be choosen as input for each type of pattern. Programs are written in FORTRAN IV.     

Human lymphoblastoid cell lines secreting antibodies with restricted HLA specificity

Peripheral B lymphocytes obtained from three healthy individuals who had been immunized against peripheral blood lymphocytes from appropriate HLA-incompatible donors were transformed by the use of Epstein-Barr virus. The transformed blastoid B cells were repeatedly subcultured by means of cluster picking, and the HLA antibody-producing cultures were identified by testing the culture supernatants by means of the cytotoxicity assay, using the corresponding donor cells. Thus far, four cell lines that secrete cytotoxic HLA antibodies (MP1, 3, 4, and 5) have been established. Specific immunoabsorption experiments revealed that the antibody activity is carried by lambda-type IgM for MP1, by kappa-type IgM for MP3 and MP5, and by both for MP4. Specificity analysis of a panel of HLA-pretyped cells indicated that MP1 detects DQw2, whereas MP5 recognizes B7. The specificity of MP3 was similar to a DQ specificity termed DC5 (probably equivalent to TA10) but not the same. Effect of bromocriptine and progesterone on the length of the ovarian cycle in 4- and 5-day estrous cyclic rats

To study the effect of prolactin and progesterone on the length of the reproductive cycle in the rat, rats of different estrous cycle length (four and five days, respectively) were injected daily (09.00 h) with either bromocriptine (1 mg/rat) or 70% ethanol vehicle (0.25 ml) from the day of estrus onward, up to the appearance of the next ovulation. Each group of rats was then (16.00, metestrus) also injected with either progesterone (4 mg/rat) or 0.2 ml of olive oil. The effects of these treatments on the length of the estrous cycle was studied by both the recording of vaginal smears daily and by direct visualization of oocyte-cumulus complexes on the ensuing day of estrus (10.00 h-12.00 h). Bromocriptine treatment shortened the length of the cycle by one day in 5-day but not in 4-day cyclic rats, while progesterone treatment lengthened estrous cycles by one day in both groups of rats. Treatment with both bromocriptine and progesterone had no effect on the estrous cycle length of 5-day cyclic rats, but did prolong in one day the cycle of 4-day cyclic rats. These facts suggest that prolactin regulates the length of the ovarian reproductive cycle in the rat through its action on the secretion of progesterone by the corpus luteum.
