Herein, the synthesis of new quaternary layered Na‐based oxides of the type NaxMnyNizFe0.1Mg0.1O2 (0.67≤ x ≤ 1.0; 0.5≤ y ≤ 0.7; 0.1≤ z ≤ 0.3) is described. The synthesis can be tuned to obtain P2‐ and O3‐type as well as mixed P‐/O‐type phases as demonstrated by structural, morphological, and electrochemical properties characterization. Although all materials show good electrochemical performance, the simultaneous presence of the P‐ and O‐type phases is found to have a synergetic effect resulting in outstanding performance of the mixed phase material as a sodium‐ion cathode. The mixed P3/P2/O3‐type material, having an average elemental composition of Na0.76Mn0.5Ni0.3Fe0.1Mg0.1O2, overcomes the specific drawbacks associated with the P2‐ and O3‐type materials, allowing the outstanding electrochemical performance. In detail, the mixed phase material is able to deliver specific discharge capacities of up to 155 mAh g?1 (18 mA g?1) in the potential range of 2.0–4.3 V. In the narrower potential range of 2.5–4.3 V the material exhibits high average discharge potential (3.4 V versus Na/Na+), exceptional average coulombic efficiencies (>99.9%), and extraordinary capacity retention (90.2% after 601 cycles). The unexplored class of P‐/O‐type mixed phases introduces new perspectives for the development of layered positive electrode materials and powerful Na‐ion batteries.  相似文献

Poly(A) polymerase was purified 22,000-fold to homogeneity from a whole cell extract of Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a yield of 22%. The enzyme is a monomeric polypeptide with a denatured molecular weight of 63,000. Incorporation of labeled ATP into acid-precipitable material by the purified enzyme proceeds faster with manganese than with magnesium ions. Various RNA homopolymers as well as Escherichia coli tRNA or rRNA can serve as primers. An RNA that terminates at the natural poly(A) site of the CYC1 gene is not more efficiently elongated than several nonspecific substrates, indicating the requirement for additional factors to provide specificity. Elongation of the primer is distributive. Covering of a poly(A) primer with poly(A)-binding protein reduces the enzyme's activity more than 10-fold.  相似文献

Models of sexual selection propose that exaggerated secondary sexual ornaments indicate a male's own fitness and the fitness of his offspring. These hypotheses have rarely been thoroughly tested in free-living individuals because overall fitness, as opposed to fitness components, is difficult to measure. We used 20 years of data from song sparrows (Melospiza melodia) inhabiting Mandarte Island, British Columbia, Canada, to test whether a male's song repertoire size, a secondary sexual trait, predicted overall measures of male or offspring fitness. Males with larger song repertoires contributed more independent and recruited offspring, and independent and recruited grandoffspring, to Mandarte's population. This was because these males lived longer and reared a greater proportion of hatched chicks to independence from parental care, not because females mated to males with larger repertoires laid or hatched more eggs. Furthermore, independent offspring of males with larger repertoires were more likely to recruit and then to leave more grandoffspring than were offspring of males with small repertoires. Although we cannot distinguish whether observed fitness variation reflected genetic or environmental effects on males or their offspring, these data suggest that female song sparrows would gain immediate and intergenerational fitness benefits by pairing with males with large song repertoires.  相似文献

The HUA2 gene acts as a repressor of floral transition. Lesions in hua2 were identified through a study of natural variation and through two mutant screens. An allele of HUA2 from Landsberg erecta (Ler) contains a premature stop codon and acts as an enhancer of early flowering 4 (elf4) mutants. hua2 single mutants, in the absence of the elf4 lesion, flower earlier than wild type under short days. hua2 mutations partially suppress late flowering in FRIGIDA (FRI )-containing lines, autonomous pathway mutants, and a photoperiod pathway mutant. hua2 mutations suppress late flowering by reducing the expression of several MADS genes that act as floral repressors including FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC ) and FLOWERING LOCUS M (FLM ).  相似文献

Diacylglycerols (OAG, diC8) and PMA were found to stimulate fluid pinocytosis (net uptake of FITC-dextran) to a far greater extent than other neutrophil activators, such as the chemotactic agents fNLPNTL and LTB4, the microtubule disassembling agents colchicine and nocodazole, the kinase inhibitor H-7, or D2O. OAG and diC8 produce a dose-dependent increase in the uptake of FITC-dextran, which is up to about 25- to 30-fold the control value of unstimulated neutrophils. The protein kinase inhibitor H-7 alone had a small stimulating effect on the net uptake, and it failed to inhibit stimulation of fluid pinocytosis by PMA, OAG, and diC8. Also, the protein kinase inhibitor staurosporine failed to inhibit fluid pinocytosis stimulated by OAG, diC8, and PMA. Stimulated fluid pinocytosis and vacuolization in response to PMA or diacylglycerols is associated with surface ruffling of neutrophils. Pinocytosis as well as surface ruffling stimulated by PMA, OAG, diC8, or diC10 are suppressed in the presence of cytochalasin D. The results suggest that diacylglycerols may be instrumental in transducing the signal for stimulated pinocytosis and that the surface movements induced by diacylglycerols, and PMA may be instrumental in fluid pinocytosis.  相似文献

Breastfeeding has immense public health value for mothers, babies, and society. But there is an undesirably large gap between the number of new mothers who undertake and persist in breastfeeding compared to what would be a preferred level of accomplishment. This gap is a reflection of the many obstacles, both physical and psychological, that confront new mothers. Previous research has illuminated many of these concerns, but research on this problem is limited in part by the unavailability of a research instrument that can measure the key differences between first-time mothers and experienced mothers, with regard to the challenges they face when breastfeeding and the instructional advice they require. An instrument was designed to measure motivational complexity associated with sustained breast feeding behaviour; the Breastfeeding Motivational Measurement Scale. It contains 51 self-report items (7 point Likert scale) that cluster into four categories related to perceived value of breast-feeding, confidence to succeed, factors that influence success or failure, and strength of intentions, or goal. However, this scale has not been validated in terms of its sensitivity to profile the motivation of new mothers and experienced mothers. This issue was investigated by having 202 breastfeeding mothers (100 first time mothers) fill out the scale. The analysis reported in this paper is a three factor solution consisting of value, midwife support, and expectancies for success that explained the characteristics of first time mothers as a known group. These results support the validity of the BMM scale as a diagnostic tool for research on first time mothers who are learning to breastfeed. Further research studies are required to further test the validity of the scale in additional subgroups.  相似文献

We present here the 2.6Å resolution crystal structure of the pT26‐6p protein, which is encoded by an ORF of the plasmid pT26‐2, recently isolated from the hyperthermophilic archaeon, Thermococcus sp. 26,2. This large protein is present in all members of a new family of mobile elements that, beside pT26‐2 include several virus‐like elements integrated in the genomes of several Thermococcales and Methanococcales (phylum Euryarchaeota). Phylogenetic analysis suggested that this protein, together with its nearest neighbor (organized as an operon) have coevolved for a long time with the cellular hosts of the encoding mobile element. As the sequences of the N and C‐terminal regions suggested a possible membrane association, a deletion construct (739 amino acids) was used for structural analysis. The structure consists of two very similar β‐sheet domains with a new topology and a five helical bundle C‐terminal domain. Each of these domains corresponds to a unique fold that has presently not been found in cellular proteins. This result supports the idea that proteins encoded by plasmid and viruses that have no cellular homologues could be a reservoir of new folds for structural genomic studies.  相似文献
