Changes in haematocrit values under lowered oxygen tension and aerobically treated blood samples of rainbow trout Salmo gairdneri (Richardson), landlocked Baltic salmon S. salar (L.), brown trout S. trutta lacustris (L.) and lake trout Salvelinus namaycush (Walbaum) have been studied in vitro . The mean haematocrit value increased during 2 h incubation under lowered oxygen tension by 32.7 ± 3.1% in rainbow trout, 28.2 ± 2.8% in landlocked Baltic salmon, 29.2 ± 5.6% in brown trout and 25.2 ± 2.8% in lake trout. During corresponding incubation with oxygen the mean haematocrit value decreased below the starting level by 18.1 ± 1.9% in rainbow trout, 18.3 ± 4.8% in landlocked Baltic salmon, 22.4 ± 0.7% in brown trout and 11.8 ± 1.7% in lake trout. Consequently, the changes in the haematocrit values were greater in the species belonging to the genus Salmo than in that of the genus Salvelinus . The increase in the haematocrit values seems to have resulted from swelling of the erythrocytes and their decrease is similarly attributable to shrinking of the cells. The reasons for this swelling, which may be complicated, and its apparent significance for haematocrit determinations are discussed.  相似文献

The responses of serum myocellular proteins and hormones to exercise were studied in ten well-trained middle-distance runners [maximal oxygen consumption (VO(2max)) = 69.4 (5.1) ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)] during 3 recovery days and compared to various measures of physical performance. The purpose was to establish the duration of recovery from typical intermittent middle-distance running exercises. The subjects performed, in random, order two 28-min treadmill running exercises at a velocity associated with VO(2max): 14 bouts of 60-s runs with 60 s of rest between each run (IR(60)) and 7 bouts of 120-s runs with 120 s of rest between each run (IR(120)). Before the exercises (pre- exercise), 2 h after, and 1, 2 and 3 days after the exercises, the same series of measurements were performed, including those for serum levels of the myocellular proteins creatine kinase, myoglobin and carbonic anhydrase III (S-CK, S-Mb and S-CA III, respectively), serum hormones testosterone, Luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone and cortisol (S-testosterone, S-LH, S-FSH and S-cortisol, respectively) and various performance parameters: maximal vertical jump height (CMJ) and stride length, heart rate and ratings of perceived exertion during an 8-min run at 15 km x h(-1) (SL(15 km x h(-1)), HR(15 km x h(-1)) and RPE(15 km x h(-1)), respectively). Two hours after the end of both exercise bouts the concentration of each measured serum protein had increased significantly (P < 0.001) compared to the pre-exercise level, but there were no changes in SL(15 km x h(-1)) or CMJ. During the recovery days only S-CK was significantly raised (P < 0.01), concomitant with a decrease in CMJ (P < 0.01) and an increase in RPE(15 km x h(-1)) (P < 0.01). Hormone levels remained unchanged compared to the pre-exercise levels during the recovery days and there were no significant differences between the two exercise bouts in any of the observed post-exercise day-to-day responses. With the exception of S-CK, after IR(120) the post-exercise responses returned to their pre-exercise levels within the 3 days of recovery. The present findings suggest that a single 28-min intermittent middle-distance running exercise does not induce changes in serum hormones of well-trained runners during recovery over 3 days, while changes in S-CK, CMJ and RPE(15 km x h(-1)) indicate that 2-3 days of light training may be needed before the recovery at muscle level is complete.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of protein ingestion on circulating testosterone and muscle androgen receptor (AR) as well as on insulin-like growth factor-I (MGF and IGF-IEa) responses to a resistance exercise (RE) bout in (57-72 year) men. Protein (15 g whey) (n=9) or placebo (n=9) was consumed before and after a RE bout (5 sets of 10 repetition maximums), and vastus lateralis muscle biopsies were taken pre, 1 and 48 h post-RE. The protein ingestion blunted the RE-induced increase in serum free and total testosterone while the RE bout significantly increased muscle AR mRNA levels in older men (P<0.05). However, protein ingestion did not significantly affect AR mRNA or protein expression, or MGF and IGF-IEa mRNA expression at 1 and 48 h post-RE. Immunohistochemical staining of muscle cross-sections was done with antibodies specific to AR and MyHC I and II and showed that there seems to be within or near the type-I muscle fibers a greater staining of ARs than within or near the type-II fibres. In conclusion, the protein ingestion hinders RE-induced increase in serum testosterone in older men but may not significantly affect muscle AR, MGF or IGF-IEa gene expression. Furthermore, the present study shows that even older men are able to increase muscle AR mRNA expression in response to a RE bout.  相似文献

Gymnastics relies upon power as a critical component of sports-specific fitness. The purpose of this study was to monitor long-term training adaptations in the power of National Collegiate Athletics Association Division I women gymnasts. Twenty members of a women's gymnastic team (aged 18-22) were tracked over 3 years with the first year a baseline year of testing. Whole body power for the counter-movement (CMJ) and squat (SJ) vertical jump was obtained via force plate analyses at 2 assessment time points during each year (February and November). Results showed significant (p < or = 0.05) and continued increases in peak power output in the CMJ and SJ at each biannual assessment. Improvements of 46% (+1010 W) for the CMJ and 43% (+900 W) for the SJ were observed at the end of the tracking period. Peak power for the CMJ and SJ were recorded at 3210 W (+/-350 W) and 3000 W (+/-152 W), respectively. Associated improvements in the time to peak power of 36% (-0.239 second) and 38% (-0.151 second) were also found for the CMJ and SJ. There were no significant changes in body mass or total skinfold thickness, however, a shift toward improved fat free mass (i.e., lean muscle mass) was apparent. These data underscore the importance that specificity, and more importantly power development, should play in the conditioning of collegiate women gymnasts' training programs.  相似文献

The loss of complexity in physiological systems may be a dynamical biomarker of aging and disease. In this study the effects of combined strength and endurance training compared with those of endurance training or strength training alone on heart rate (HR) complexity and traditional HR variability indices were examined in middle-aged women. 90 previously untrained female volunteers between the age of 40 and 65 years completed a 21 week progressive training period of either strength training, endurance training or their combination, or served as controls. Continuous HR time series were obtained during supine rest and submaximal steady state exercise. The complexity of HR dynamics was assessed using multiscale entropy analysis. In addition, standard time and frequency domain measures were also computed. Endurance training led to increases in HR complexity and selected time and frequency domain measures of HR variability (P<0.01) when measured during exercise. Combined strength and endurance training or strength training alone did not produce significant changes in HR dynamics. Inter-subject heterogeneity of responses was particularly noticeable in the combined training group. At supine rest, no training-induced changes in HR parameters were observed in any of the groups. The present findings emphasize the potential utility of endurance training in increasing the complex variability of HR in middle-aged women. Further studies are needed to explore the combined endurance and strength training adaptations and possible gender and age related factors, as well as other mechanisms, that may mediate the effects of different training regimens on HR dynamics.  相似文献

Recovery of maximal force and power following a 10-km race has not been widely studied in the scientific literature.
