The periodic responses of a mathematical neuron model, when periodically varying input stimuli are applied to the model, are investigated. An explicit representation of periodic responses is obtained. It is shown that a periodic response as a 0–1 string is a uniform string. All the phosphate rock Japan needs must be presently imported from abroad because the country has no subterranean phosphorous resources. Therefore, there is a need to accelerate the development of and establish the technologies for phosphorous recovery from waste and wastewater. Swine wastewater has a high potential for phosphorous recovery in Japan. A reactor for removing and recovering phosphorous from swine wastewater was designed with dual functions, crystallization through aeration and separation of formed struvite by settling. However, a dehydration, composting and characterization process was first needed before using sediment sludge, including struvite, on farmland, since the struvite will settle along with huge amounts of other suspended solids (organic matter). For the recovery of pure struvite, an accumulation device was designed and its efficiency examined. The device has a struvite-accumulation face made of stainless steel wire mesh (1 mm in diameter, 1 cm(2) square) to reduce its total weight. During submergence in the aeration column of the demonstration reactor, struvite cross-bridged and accumulated on the face of the device. The struvite could be scraped off easily with only a light brushing, and was found to be approximately 95% pure. Because this device is a very simple structure, it is thought to be acceptable to swine farmers.  相似文献

This data paper reports litter fall data collected in a network of 21 forest sites in Japan. This is the largest litter fall data set freely available in Japan to date. The network is a part of the Monitoring Sites 1000 Project launched by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan. It covers subarctic to subtropical climate zones and the four major forest types in Japan. Twenty-three permanent plots in which usually 25 litter traps were installed were established in old-growth or secondary natural forests. Litter falls were collected monthly from 2004, and sorted into leaves, branches, reproductive structures and miscellaneous. The data provide seasonal patterns and inter-annual dynamics of litter falls, and their geographical patterns, and offer good opportunities for meta-analyses and comparative studies among forests.  相似文献

The antibiotic cordycepin (3'-deoxyadenosine), a known specificinhibitor of nucleic acid synthesis and polyadenylation of RNA,remarkably retarded decrease in the chlorophyll and proteincontents of senescing tobacco leaf disks. The effectivenessof cordycepin, at its optimum concentration (ca. 4 x 10–5M), was 53% as effective as a cytokinin, benzyladenine at 10–6M. One of the chitinases secreted in the culture filtrate of a gram-negative bacteria, Burkholderia cepacia strain KH2, which was isolated from the bed log of Lentinus edodes, Shiitake mushrooms, was purified by DEAE Sepharose CL-6B chromatography, followed by Sephacryl S-100 HR gel filtration. The purified enzyme was homogenous, determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), with an estimated molecular weight of 34,000 and an isoelectric point (pI) of 5.9. The enzyme was stable at pH values of 4.0-6.0, and at temperatures up to 50 degrees C; the optimum pH and temperature were 4.5 and 50 degrees C, respectively. The enzyme exhibited higher activities toward chitosan 7B, a 62% deacetylated chitosan, than toward the highly deacetylated chitosan substrates. The enzyme was observed to drastically hydrolyze partially deacetylated chitin substrates, with the subsequent formation of N-acetylchitooligosaccharides [(GlcNAc) (n), n=2-7]. Separation and quantification of the hydrolysis products of (GlcNAc) (n), n52-6, by HPLC showed the splitting into (GlcNAc)(n), n=3-6. Activity toward N-acetylchitobiose was not detected. Oligomers with a higher number of units than the starting substrate were also detected, which indicate transglycosylation activity.  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus is characterized by an impairment of glucose uptake even though blood glucose levels are increased. Methylglyoxal is derived from glycolysis and has been implicated in the development of diabetes mellitus, because methylglyoxal levels in blood and tissues are higher in diabetic patients than in healthy individuals. However, it remains to be elucidated whether such factors are a cause, or consequence, of diabetes. Here, we show that methylglyoxal inhibits the activity of mammalian glucose transporters using recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells genetically lacking all hexose transporters but carrying cDNA for human GLUT1 or rat GLUT4. We found that methylglyoxal inhibits yeast hexose transporters also. Glucose uptake was reduced in a stepwise manner following treatment with methylglyoxal, i.e. a rapid reduction within 5 min, followed by a slow and gradual reduction. The rapid reduction was due to the inhibitory effect of methylglyoxal on hexose transporters, whereas the slow and gradual reduction seemed due to endocytosis, which leads to a decrease in the amount of hexose transporters on the plasma membrane. We found that Rsp5, a HECT-type ubiquitin ligase, is responsible for the ubiquitination of hexose transporters. Intriguingly, Plc1 (phospholipase C) negatively regulated the endocytosis of hexose transporters in an Rsp5-dependent manner, although the methylglyoxal-induced endocytosis of hexose transporters occurred irrespective of Plc1. Meanwhile, the internalization of hexose transporters following treatment with methylglyoxal was delayed in a mutant defective in protein kinase C.  相似文献

Human plasma cholinesterase from five different genotypes -- E1U E1U, E1U E1A, E1A E1A, E1U E1S, E1A E1S, and E1U E1U C5+ -- was purified 8,000 fold from serum by a two-step procedure involving chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and preparative disc electrophoresis. The esterases were labeled with diisopropyl-1, 3-C14-fluorophosphate (DFP) aminoethylated, and digested by trypsin. The trytic digests were subjected to high voltage electrophoresis, and the radioactive peptides were detected by radioautography. Comparison of the peptides revealed different electrophoretic mobilities of the usual and atypical (dibucaine resistant) plasma cholinesterase peptides. The results are consistent with a structural abnormality of the active center in the variant enzyme. No difference was observed an the esteratic site of the enzyme with C5 component.  相似文献
