Rapid commercialization, industrialization and the use of nanotechnology has led to an increase in the distribution of nanoparticles (NPs) in the environment. The most common metal oxide NPs which is present within products is Titanium dioxide (TiO2). TiO2 NPs have photocatalytic nature and can affect plant growth. The current study investigated the morphological, anatomical and biochemical features of Baby sun rose (Aptenia cordifolia) after exposure to different concentrations of TiO2 nanoparticles (0, 1, 5, 10 and 20 mg L−1). Treatment with TiO2 NPs showed changes in the morphological features and increased photosynthetic pigmentation within the plant. An increase in the level of phenolics (12%) and flavonoid compounds (13%) was observed when plants were treated with moderate levels of TiO2 NPs. A reduction in the diameter of the vascular bundles and increased thickening of the transverse wall were observed in several samples. The number of scattered vascular bundles in the stems increased. The morphological, biochemical, and anatomical responses of Baby sun rose indicates that plants can adapt to environments contaminated with up to 20 mg L−1 TiO2 NPs. The cultivation of Baby sun rose plants in environments polluted with TiO2 NPs is recommended. This study enhances the knowledge of the effect of TiO2 NPs on the growth of Baby sun rose which is an ornamental plant, widely cultivated in different regions of Iran. The results of this study suggest that contaminated environments up to 20 mg L−1 TiO2 NPs can be managed by phytoremediation. Further studies are needed to investigate this plant''s tolerance strategies against stress caused by TiO2 NPs and bulk TiO2 as well as the effect of other nanoparticles on plant.  相似文献

In many analytic models of the knee joint, inter-insertional distance is used as the measure to define the load in a ligament. In addition, the direction of the load is taken to be the direction between the two insertions. Our in vivo data on the ovine ligament loads during gait, however, indicate that a wide range of forces is possible in the ligament for any specified inter-insertional distance. To understand the complex relationship between the bone orientations and ligament load better, an artificial neural network (ANN) model was developed. The six degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) in vivo kinematics of femur relative to tibia (joint kinematics) was used as input, and the magnitude of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) load was used as output/target. While the trained network was able to predict peak ligament loads with remarkable accuracy (R-square=0.98), an explicit relationship between joint kinematics and ACL load could not be determined. To examine the experimental and ANN observations further, a finite element (FE) model of the ACL was created. The geometry of the FE model was reconstructed from magnetic resonance images (MRI) of an ACL, and an isotropic, hyperelastic, nearly incompressible constitutive model was implemented for the ACL. The FE simulation results also indicate that a range of loads is possible in the ACL for a given inter-insertional distance, in concordance with the experimental/ANN observations. This study provides new insights for models of the knee joint; a simple force–length relationship for the ligament is not exact, nor is a single point to single point direction. More detailed microstructure-function data is required.  相似文献

The Schwann cells (SCs) may be obtain from nerve biopsies for autologous transplantation. However, it is difficult to obtain sufficient amount of SCs for clinical applications. Human adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) can be induced to differentiate into Schwann-like cells (S-like cells) and used for autologous transplantation. However, effect of leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) on the myelinogenic ability of SC-like cells induced from human ADSC is not investigated yet. The aim of this study was to evaluate of the effect of exogenous LIF on myelinogenic potential of differentiated cells in vitro. ADSCs were harvested from human fat tissue and characterized using flow cytometry. Human ADSCs were treated for sphere formation and LIF was added to terminal differentiation medium. GFAP/S100β and MBP markers were used to confirm differentiation of human ADSCs, and myelinogenic ability of SC-like cells, respectively, using both immunostaining and real-time RT-PCR analysis. The analysis for GFAP+/S100β+ revealed that LIF can increase both differentiated cells rates and the percentage of myelinating SC-like cells (p < 0.05). Our data showed that SC-like cells induced from human ADSCs were able to generate myelin when exposed to LIF and these cells could be a potential source for the treatment of peripheral and central axonal injuries.  相似文献

We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the phylogenetic, phylogeographic, and demographic relationships of Caspian cobra (Naja oxiana; Eichwald, 1831) populations based on a concatenated dataset of two mtDNA genes (cyt b and ND4) across the species'' range in Iran, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan, along with other members of Asian cobras (i.e., subgenus Naja Laurenti, 1768). Our results robustly supported that the Asiatic Naja are monophyletic, as previously suggested by other studies. Furthermore, Nkaouthia and N. sagittifera were recovered as sister taxa to each other, and in turn sister clades to N. oxiana. Our results also highlighted the existence of a single major evolutionary lineage for populations of N. oxiana in the Trans‐Caspian region, suggesting a rapid expansion of this cobra from eastern to western Asia, coupled with a rapid range expansion from east of Iran toward the northeast. However, across the Iranian range of N. oxiana, subdivision of populations was not supported, and thus, a single evolutionary significant unit is proposed for inclusion in future conservation plans in this region.  相似文献

There is insufficient evidence with respect to the effect of the standard anticancer therapeutic agents as well as common dietary supplements on the expression of such genes and microRNAs (miRNAs). Therefore, this study was aimed to study the effect of applying linoleic acid (LA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) fatty acids alone or combined with Taxol on the expression of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9, MMP-2, vimentin, and talin2 genes, tumor-suppressor miR-194 and, onco-miR-106b in triple-negative breast cancer cell line, known as MDA-MB-231. MDA-MB-231 as metastatic breast cancer cell line was cultured and treated using 0.3 μM Taxol, 100 μM DHA, and 50 μM LA for 24 hours, alone or combined with Taxol under the normoxic and hypoxic conditions. Cells were harvested, after RNA extraction and complementary DNA synthesis, analysis of the expression levels of the studied genes and miRNAs was done through the use of the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Wound healing assay and Western blot analysis were also performed for confirmation. The results of qRT-PCR showed that treating the MDA-MB-231 cells with DHA caused an increase in the miR-194 expression and a decrease in the miR-106b expression, leading to the downregulation of the MMP-2 and MMP-9, and vimentin, and upregulation of the talin2 under the normoxic and hypoxic conditions. The results of the wound healing scratch assay revealed that the administration of the DHA and the DHA-Taxol combination caused the repression of cell migration in comparison with the control groups under the normoxic and hypoxic conditions. The results of the Western blot analysis demonstrated that DHA and the DHA-Taxol combination caused an increase in the expression of the talin2 protein rather than the control cells under both normoxic and hypoxic conditions. This study showed that DHA has significant antimetastatic effects against the triple-negative breast cancer cells. DHA could serve as a promising supplementation for suppressing the breast cancer cell migration, especially under the hypoxic condition.  相似文献

Preeclampsia is an important cause of maternal and perinatal mortality worldwide. The etiology of this relatively common medical complication of pregnancy, however, remains unknown. The aim of this study was to compare the copper concentrations in serum and urine samples of preeclamptic and normotensive pregnant women to establish the possible contribution of this parameter to the etiology of this condition. Ninety-five preeclamptic and 92 normotensive pregnant women were enrolled in a cross-sectional study. The Cu content of serum and 24-h urine was compared among the women. The individual samples were analyzed for copper by atomic absorption spectrometry. The obtained data were recorded and analyzed statistically using t test, X2. Comparing the Cu concentrations in serum and urine samples of preeclamptic and normotensive pregnant women, significant differences between the two groups were observed. Obtained results of this study revealed that Cu content of serum and urine is increased in preeclamptic pregnancy.  相似文献
