Introduction
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and hyperactivity symptoms exhibit an incidence that is male-biased. Thus androgen activity can be considered a plausible biological risk factor for these disorders. However, there is insufficient information about the association between increased androgen activity and hyperactivity symptoms in children with ASD.Methods
In the present study, the relationship between parameters of androgenicity (plasmatic testosterone levels and androgen receptor sensitivity) and hyperactivity in 60 boys (age 3–15) with ASD is investigated. Given well documented differences in parent and trained examiners ratings of symptom severity, we employed a standardized parent`s questionnaire (Nisonger Child Behavior Rating Form) as well as a direct examiner`s rating (Autism diagnostic observation schedule) for assessment of hyperactivity symptoms.Results
Although it was found there was no significant association between actual plasmatic testosterone levels and hyperactivity symptoms, the number of CAG triplets was significantly negatively correlated with hyperactivity symptoms (R2 = 0.118, p = 0.007) in the sample, indicating increased androgen receptor sensitivity in association with hyperactivity symptoms. Direct trained examiner´s assessment appeared to be a relevant method for evaluating of behavioral problems in the investigation of biological underpinnings of these problems in our study.Conclusions
A potential ASD subtype characterized by increased rates of hyperactivity symptoms might have distinct etiopathogenesis and require a specific behavioral and pharmacological approach. We propose an increase of androgen receptor sensitivity as a biomarker for a specific ASD subtype accompanied with hyperactivity symptoms. N,N,N-Trialkylammonioundecahydrododecaborates (1-), a novel class of compounds of interest for use as anions in ionic liquids, interact with DPPC liposomes. Increasing compound concentration causes an increasing negative ζ potential. Dissociation constants demonstrate that the binding capacity increases strongly with longer chain length. N,N,N-Trialkylammonioundecahydrododecaborates with longer alkyl chains show a detergent-like behavior: the compounds incorporate into the liposome membrane and differential scanning calorimetric experiment show already low concentrations cause a complete disappearance of the peak representing the gel-to-liquid crystalline phase transition. In contrast, compounds with shorter alkyl chains only interact with the headgroups of the lipids. Investigations by means of cryo-TEM reveal that all derivatives induce significant morphological changes of the liposomes. N,N,N-Trialkylammonioundecahydrododecaborates with short alkyl chains produce large bilayer sheets, whereas those with longer alkyl chains tend to induce the formation of open or multi-layered liposomes. We propose that the binding of N,N,N-trialkylammonioundecahydrododecaborates is mainly due to electrostatic interactions between the doubly negatively charged cluster unit and the positively charged choline headgroup; the positively charged ammonium group might be in contact with the deeper-lying negatively charged phosphate. For N,N,N-trialkylammonioundecahydrododecaborates with longer alkyl chains hydrophobic interactions with the non-polar hydrocarbon part of the membrane constitute an additional important driving force for the association of the compounds to the lipid bilayer. 相似文献

This study is the first to analyze the relationship between ecological indices (substrate moisture, nutrient content, substrate dispersion/aeration, substrate pH and humus content) and life forms of the vascular flora in and around Lake Provala; these relationships may serve as reliable indicators of the ecological conditions prevailing in this ecosystem. Since the development of certain life forms, in addition to climatic conditions, depends on plant requirements for several major environmental factors expressed as ecological indices, we established the relationship between the ecological index and life form of vascular plants collected over an eight year period in this system using correspondence analysis. We found a significant correlation between the development of certain life forms and levels of substrate moisture, nutrient content and substrate dispersion/aeration. These relationships help explain the predominance of hemicryptophytes and hydro-helophytes in the riparian zone of the lake, as these forms are perfectly adapted to water-saturated or aquatic environments rich in nutrients and relatively well aerated. There was no significant relationship between life forms and substrate pH or the content of organo-mineral compounds (humus) in the soil. 相似文献

The aim of this article was to investigate the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and abnormal lipid status with selected anthropometric variables in a sample of hospitalized coronary heart disease (CHD) patients in Croatia (N = 1,298). Prevalence of diabetes mellitus was 31.6% (statistically significantly more frequent in women, 35.7% vs. 30.0%), while prevalences of increased total cholesterol were 72.0%, decreased HDL-cholesterol 42.6% (statistically significantly more frequent in women, 50.2% vs. 39.6%), increased LDL-cholesterol 72.3% and increased triglycerides 51.5%. Reported data on prevalences of diabetes mellitus can be somewhat reassuring (a decrease in its prevalence compared to data from 2006, but they still signal a situation which is a lot worse than in 2002 and 2003); the trend of rising prevalences of dyslipidaemic cardiovascular risk factors must be a cause for an alarm, furthermore as today's preventive and treatment measures in cardiology, both primary and secondary, are strongly focused on dyslipidaemias. 相似文献

We investigated if the antileukemic drug idarubicin induces autophagy, a process of programmed cellular self-digestion, in leukemic cell lines and primary leukemic cells. Transmission electron microscopy and acridine orange staining demonstrated the presence of autophagic vesicles and intracellular acidification, respectively, in idarubicin-treated REH leukemic cell line. Idarubicin increased punctuation/aggregation of microtubule-associated light chain 3B (LC3B), enhanced the conversion of LC3B-I to autophagosome-associated LC3B-II in the presence of proteolysis inhibitors, and promoted the degradation of the selective autophagic target p62, thus indicating the increase in autophagic flux. Idarubicin inhibited the phosphorylation of the main autophagy repressor mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and its downstream target p70S6 kinase. The treatment with the mTOR activator leucine prevented idarubicin-mediated autophagy induction. Idarubicin-induced mTOR repression was associated with the activation of the mTOR inhibitor AMP-activated protein kinase and down-regulation of the mTOR activator Akt. The suppression of autophagy by pharmacological inhibitors or LC3B and beclin-1 genetic knockdown rescued REH cells from idarubicin-mediated oxidative stress, mitochondrial depolarization, caspase activation and apoptotic DNA fragmentation. Idarubicin also caused mTOR inhibition and cytotoxic autophagy in K562 leukemic cell line and leukocytes from chronic myeloid leukemia patients, but not healthy controls. By demonstrating mTOR-dependent cytotoxic autophagy in idarubicin-treated leukemic cells, our results warrant caution when considering combining idarubicin with autophagy inhibitors in leukemia therapy. 相似文献

Endophytic bacteria from wooden plants and especially seed-associated endophytes are not well studied. Fresh seeds collected from four Norway spruce trees (Picea abies) from different locations in the Slovene subalpine region were surface-sterilised and dissected into a seed coat, embryo and endosperm. The presence of endophytes was detected by culturing methods and by direct amplification of the eubacterial 16S rDNA gene. Both approaches identified bacteria from genera Pseudomonas and Rahnella in the Norway spruce seeds. Both are known plant-associated bacteria with growth-promoting properties and biological control potential. We suggest that plant seeds could serve as a vector for transmission of beneficial bacteria. 相似文献
