Ontogenetic influences in patterns of niche breadth and feeding overlap were investigated in three species of Siluriformes (Heptapterus sp., Rhamdia quelen and Trichomycterus poikilos) aiming at understanding the species coexistence. Samplings were conducted bimonthly by electrofishing technique from June/2012 to June/2013 in ten streams of the northwestern state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The stomach contents of 1,948 individuals were analyzed by volumetric method, with 59 food items identified. In general Heptapterus sp. consumed a high proportion of Aegla sp., terrestrial plant remains and Megaloptera; R. quelen consumed fish, and Oligochaeta, followed by Aegla sp.; while the diet of T. poikilos was based on Simuliidae, Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera. Specie segregation was observed in the NMDS. Through PERMANOVA analysis feeding differences among species, and between a combination of species plus size classes were observed. IndVal showed which items were indicators of these differences. Niche breadth values were high for all species. The niche breadth values were low only for the larger size of R. quelen and Heptapterus sp. while T. poikilos values were more similar. Overall the species were a low feeding overlap values. The higher frequency of high feeding overlap was observed for interaction between Heptapterus sp. and T. poikilos. The null model confirmed the niche partitioning between the species. The higher frequency of high and intermediate feeding overlap values were reported to smaller size classes. The null model showed resource sharing between the species/size class. Therefore, overall species showed a resource partitioning because of the use of occasional items. However, these species share resources mainly in the early ontogenetic stages until the emphasized change of morphological characteristics leading to trophic niche expansion and the apparent segregation observed.  相似文献

There is an interest in the development of an antioxidant packaging fully biodegradable to increase the shelf life of food products. An active film from cassava starch bio-based, incorporated with aqueous green tea extract and oil palm colorant was developed packaging. The effects of additives on the film properties were determined by measuring mechanical, barrier and thermal properties using a response surface methodology design experiment. The bio-based films were used to pack butter (maintained for 45 days) under accelerated oxidation conditions. The antioxidant action of the active films was evaluated by analyzing the peroxide index, total carotenoids, and total polyphenol. The same analysis also evaluated unpacked butter, packed in films without additives and butter packed in LDPE films, as controls. The results suggested that incorporation of the antioxidants extracts tensile strength and water vapor barrier properties (15 times lower) compared to control without additives. A lower peroxide index (231.57%), which was significantly different from that of the control (p<0.05), was detected in products packed in film formulations containing average concentration of green tea extracts and high concentration of colorant. However, it was found that the high content of polyphenols in green tea extract can be acted as a pro-oxidant agent, which suggests that the use of high concentration should be avoided as additives for films. These results support the applicability of a green tea extract and oil palm carotenoics colorant in starch films totally biodegradable and the use of these materials in active packaging of the fatty products.  相似文献

In mice, the plasma concentrations of the appetite-stimulatory and autophagy-inhibitory factor acyl-coenzyme A binding protein (ACBP, also called diazepam-binding inhibitor, DBI) acutely increase in response to starvation, but also do so upon chronic overnutrition leading to obesity. Here, we show that knockout of Acbp/Dbi in adipose tissue is sufficient to prevent high-fat diet-induced weight gain in mice. We investigated ACBP/DBI plasma concentrations in several patient cohorts to discover a similar dual pattern of regulation. In relatively healthy subjects, ACBP/DBI concentrations independently correlated with body mass index (BMI) and age. The association between ACBP/DBI and BMI was lost in subjects that underwent major weight gain in the subsequent 3–9 years, as well as in advanced cancer patients. Voluntary fasting, undernutrition in the context of advanced cancer, as well as chemotherapy were associated with an increase in circulating ACBP/DBI levels. Altogether, these results support the conclusion that ACBP/DBI may play an important role in body mass homeostasis as well as in its failure.Subject terms: Obesity, Diagnostic markers  相似文献

Aim

To date, few studies have examined the phylogenetics of Corbicula clams in their native range and the environmental parameters influencing their distribution, although this could provide great insights into the biological adaptation and invasion dynamics of Corbicula clams. We sought to identify the genetic lineages of native Corbicula clams and elucidate the environmental factors shaping the distributions of identified lineages.

Location

China, mainly the Yangtze River Basin.

Methods

The alignment comprised 558 COI sequences including samples from China and 222 COI sequences from published studies. This dataset was used to generate phylogenetic trees and compare population diversity. We used dbRDA method to assess the relationship between these COI data and environmental factors measured to identify the important factors affecting Corbicula's distribution.

Results

The COI phylogenetic tree delineated the monophyly of 3 major COI clades and 77 distinct COI haplotypes in the Yangtze River Basin. The invasive lineage C/S (FW17) was not identified in our sampling in China, while invasive lineages A/R (FW5 = Hap6), B (FW1 = Hap17) and Rlc (FW4 = Hap43) were identified, abundant and widely distributed in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. Focusing on populations from Yangtze River Basin, both the COI haplotype and nucleotide diversity in the lakes along the Yangtze River increased with longitude, except for the river mouth population. The AMOVA tests showed significant differentiation between the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and among populations. The dbRDA results suggested that the parameter chloride explained most of the spatial COI haplotype distribution variation in the Yangtze River Basin, with the three invasive lineages tolerating broad fluctuations of salinity (chloride levels ranging from 4 to 60 mg/L).

Conclusions

The Corbicula COI haplotypes found within the Yangtze River Basin had distinct distribution preferences, with the invasive androgenetic lineages being the most abundant and widely distributed. Genetic diversity was higher in this native region than in invaded areas in Europe and America, while it decreased with increasing distance from the river mouth. Salinity appeared to be the main environmental factor shaping the COI haplotype distribution of Corbicula lineages within their native range.  相似文献

Tropical studies traditionally describe insect diversity variation throughout the year. The temporally structured responses of insect assemblages to climate seasonality vary across ecosystems due to gradients of resource availability and limiting ecological factors. These idiosyncratic responses might be particularly true across the vast geographical range of the Brazilian territory, including various environments that harbor one of the most diverse ant faunas worldwide. This study addressed the relationship between ant diversity and climatic seasonality, performing a quantitative review of the published data on ant diversity collected in Brazil. We investigated the seasonality effect on ant abundance and richness described in the literature in 47 papers published between 2000 and 2018. These studies were developed mainly in the Atlantic Forest biome and collected ants with pitfall traps on the soil/litter stratum. We initially carried out a vote-counting procedure by comparing the number of significant results describing seasonal differences in the ant assemblage. We found that most papers described a similar pattern of ant abundance, richness, and species composition between seasons. However, when we performed a meta-analysis, we observed a clear pattern of higher ant abundance and richness in the wet/summer season compared with the dry/winter season. Our meta-analysis reveals that the ant diversity decreases in the dry season, strongly in the Cerrado biome. Additionally, we point out differences in the sampling effort across biomes, indicating the need for further investments in studies focused on temporal diversity patterns, including seasonal effects, on the insect assemblage in biomes less investigated so far. The involvement of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in the integration of the light signal perceived by phytochrome during the morphogenesis of plants was investigated in Nicotiana plumbaginifolia Viviani. The chromophore mutant pew1, deficient in all the phytochrome types, and the aurea-like mutant pew2, which appears to be specifically deficient in phytochromes expressed in darkness, were analysed for IAA-related morphogenic effects such as rooting, shooting and callus formation. We observed, in the absence of exogenously applied hormones, abundant root formation by the pew2 mutant. The pew1 mutant exhibited callus formation in the presence of gibberellins and cytokinins when the wild type did not. The previously described lethality of the double mutant pew1–pew2 was shown to be hormone-dependent since, in the light, exogenously applied auxin and cytokinin (0.1 mg·1?1 each) led to plant regeneration from calli and subsequent normal development. These observations suggested an increase in the auxin/cytokinin ratio as a consequence of the phytochrome mutations. We correlated these morphogenic characteristics with high IAA levels in the mutants. The difference in IAA accumulation in the two mutants indicates that among the different phytochromes expressed by N. plumbaginifolia, the light-expressed isoforms play a major role in the control of IAA levels.  相似文献

Effects of 5-day hypoxia on cardiac adrenergic neurotransmission in rats   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Chronic hypoxiainduces an overall sympathetic hyperactivation associated with amyocardial -receptor desensitization. The mechanismsinvolved in this desensitization were evaluated in 32 male Wistar ratskept in a hypobaric pressure chamber(PO2 = 40 Torr, atmospheric pressure = 450 Torr) for 5 days. In hypoxic compared with normoxic conditions,plasma norepinephrine (NE) levels were higher (2.1 ± 0.7 vs. 0.6 ± 0.2 ng/ml) with no difference in the plasma epinephrine levels(2.2 ± 0.7 vs. 1.8 ± 0.3 ng/ml). In hypoxia neuronal NE uptakemeasured by [3H]NE wasdecreased by 32% in the right ventricle (RV) and by 35% in the leftventricle (LV), and[3H]mazindol in vitrobinding showed a decrease in uptake-1 carrier protein density by 38%in the RV and by 41% in the LV. In vitro binding assays with[3H]CGP-12177 indicate-adrenoceptor density reduced by 40% in the RV and by 32% in theLV, and this was due to reduced1-subtype fraction (competitionbinding experiments with practolol). Hypoxia reduced the production ofcAMP induced by isoproterenol (36% decrease in the RV and 41%decrease in the LV), 5'-guanylylimododiphosphate (40% decreasein the RV and 42% decrease in the LV), and forskolin (39% decrease inthe RV and 41% decrease in the LV) but did not alter the effect ofMnCl2 and NaF. Quantitation ofinhibitory G-protein -subunit by immunochemical analysis showed a46% increase in the cardiac-specific isoformGi2 inhypoxic hearts. The present data demonstrate that in rats 5-day hypoxialeads to changes in pre- and postsynaptic myocardial adrenergicfunction. The myocardial desensitization associated with both areduction in externalized 1-adrenoceptor and an increasein inhibitory G-protein subunit may be caused by increased synaptic NElevels due to impaired uptake-1 system.
