A cross-sectional survey was carried out for the purpose of examining the association of work stress with insomnia among nurses working rotating shift systems. A self-administered questionnaire on sleep and mental health was distributed to 875 nurses at five hospitals in Japan. Out of the data from 785 (89.7%) respondents, those from 555 women engaged in rapidly and irregularly rotating shift systems as full-time nurses were examined. The prevalence of insomnia (29.2%) was three to four times higher than that in the general population. Among the insomniacs, 23% were current users of medically prescribed hypnotics. Multiple logistic analysis revealed that being 24 or less years old, working three or less night shifts per month, having six or less non-working days per month, receiving less support from colleagues and superiors, and taking care of severely ill patients were independent risk factors for insomnia. The number of hours of a night shift was found not associated with insomnia, taking the above variables into account. These results suggest that at least three factors, i.e., 1) young nurses not adapted to shiftwork, 2) the nurses requiring to remedy sleep deficits on non-working days, and 3) the work stress partly characteristic of nurses, have an adverse influence on their sleep.  相似文献

Pepsinogens A and C, and prochymosin were purified from four species of adult New World monkeys, namely, common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus), cotton-top tamarin (Saguinus oedipus), squirrel monkey (Saimiri sciureus), and capuchin monkey (Cebus apella). The occurrence of prochymosin was quite unique since this zymogen is known to be neonate-specific and, in primates, it has been thought that the prochymosin gene is not functional. No multiple form has been detected for any type of pepsinogen except that two pepsinogen-A isozymogens were identified in capuchin monkey. Pepsins A and C, and chymosin hydrolyzed hemoglobin optimally at pH 2-2.5 with maximal activities of about 20, 30, and 15 units/mg protein. Pepsins A were inhibited in the presence of an equimolar amount of pepstatin, and chymosins and pepsins C needed 5- and 100-fold molar excesses of pepstatin for complete inhibition, respectively. Hydrolysis of insulin B chain occurred first at the Leu15-Tyr16 bond in the case of pepsins A and chymosins, and at either the Leu15-Tyr16 or Tyr16-Leu17 bond in the case of pepsins C. The presence of different types of pepsins might be advantageous to New World monkeys for the efficient digestion of a variety of foods. Molecular cloning of cDNAs for three types of pepsinogens from common marmoset was achieved. A phylogenetic tree of pepsinogens based on the nucleotide sequence showed that common marmoset diverged from the ancestral primate about 40 million years ago.  相似文献

A new virus disease that displays dermal ulceration and high mortality has been occurring since 1996 in color carp Cyprinus carpio reared in warm water in Japan. In histological examinations, initial erosive lesions displayed necrosis, hemorrhage and fibrin deposition in the dermal loose connective tissue and were accompanied by the partial destruction of the epidermis. Developed ulcerative lesions involved the lateral musculature with bacterial invasions. In visceral organs, necrotic cells were observed in the hematopoietic tissue, the spleen and the intestinal tissues as well as in cardiac muscle fibers which showed no signs of bacterial invasion. Electron microscopy revealed corona-like virus particles in these necrotic cells. The necrotic cells of the hematopoietic tissue and the spleen were accompanied by the formation of tubular structures and crystalline inclusions. The putative virus was isolated and cultured in epithelioma papillosum cyprini (EPC) cells. Carp experimentally inoculated with the cultured virus showed virus transmission, and the same pathological signs of the disease and mortalities as in natural infections.  相似文献

Three isolated strains from human feces were characterized by biochemical tests and 16S rDNA analysis. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that these isolated strains were members of the Clostridium subphylum of gram-positive bacteria. The phenotypic characters resembled those of the genus Eubacterium, but these strains were shown to be phylogenetically distant from the type species of the genus, Eubacterium limosum. The strains showed a specific phylogenetic association with Holdemania filiformis and Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae. Based on a 16S rDNA sequence divergence of greater than 12% with H. filiformis and E. rhusiopathiae, a new genus, Solobacterium, is proposed for three strains, with one species, Solobacterium moorei. The type strain of Solobacterium moorei is JCM 10645T.  相似文献

Neurons and glial cells differentiate from common precursors. Whereas the gene glial cells missing (gcm) determines the glial fate in Drosophila, current data about the expression patterns suggest that, in mammals, gcm homologues are unlikely to regulate gliogenesis. Here, we found that, in mouse retina, the bHLH gene Hes5 was specifically expressed by differentiating Müller glial cells and that misexpression of Hes5 with recombinant retrovirus significantly increased the population of glial cells at the expense of neurons. Conversely, Hes5-deficient retina showed 30-40% decrease of Müller glial cell number without affecting cell survival. These results indicate that Hes5 modulates glial cell fate specification in mouse retina.  相似文献

Acrocomia aculeata is a native palm distributed widely throughout Brazil that is used in a diverse array of products from the food industry to biodiesel oil production. This study uses nine microsatellite loci to assess the genetic diversity, spatial genetic structure (SGS), and mating system of A. aculeata. A total of 200 samples were collected from four populations (Fusquinha—FU, Padre Josimo—PJ, Gleba XV-GB, and Amparo—AM), in São Paulo State, Brazil. We also collected fruits from 20 randomly selected seed trees in the FU population to assess mating patterns, for a total of 246 genotyped embryos. We identified a total of 103 alleles and all loci were polymorphic. The average observed heterozygosity (\({H_o}\)) ranged from 0.410 (AM) to 0.531 (FU) and expected heterozygosity (\({H_e}\)) ranged from 0.547 (PJ) to 0.615 (GB). The average fixation index (\(F\)) ranged from 0.043 to 0.254 for FU and AM populations, respectively. The coancestry coefficient (\({\theta _{xy}}\)) was significant up to 38 m in PJ the population and 71 m in AM. Individual palm outcrossing rates were predominantly high (\({t_m}\)?=?0.985) and the paternity correlation (\({r_{{p_{(m)}}}}\)?=?0.02) was significantly low, indicating a high probability of the occurrence of half-sibs. Compared to other palm species, the studied populations show high levels of genetic diversity. Our results confirm that A. aculeata is primarily allogamous, with no significant paternity correlation, and seeds should be harvested from at least 40 trees to ensure high levels of genetic diversity in seed collection programs.  相似文献

Aims

To gain a better understanding of how rapidly microbial communities respond to different magnitudes of perturbation that mimic minor or catastrophic disturbances.

Methods

Two montane sites in the western Cascade Mountains of Oregon with adjacent areas of forest and meadow vegetation were studied. A reciprocal transplant experiment evaluated both minor (soil cores remaining in the same vegetation type) or more severe disturbance (soil cores transferred to a different vegetation type). The biomass and composition of the bacterial and fungal communities were measured for 2 years following the establishment of the experiment.

Results

Minor disturbance (coring) had little impact on microbial biomass but transferring between vegetation type showed greater fungal biomass in soil incubated in the forest environment. The composition of bacterial communities was not influenced by coring but responded strongly to transfers between vegetation sites, changing to reflect their new environment after 2 years. Fungal community composition responded somewhat to coring, probably from disrupting mycorrhizal fungal hyphae, but more strongly to being transferred to a new environment.

Conclusions

The response of the microbial community to major disturbance was rapid, showing shifts reflective of their new environment within 2 years, suggesting that microbial communities have the capacity to quickly adjust to catastrophic disturbances.  相似文献
