Gibberellin (GA) levels in leaf sheaths and in elongating leaf bases of perennial ryegrass ( Lolium perenne L. cv. Bravo) were monitored in undefoliated and defoliated plants. Nine C-13-hydroxylated GAs (GA8, GA97, GA29, GA1, GA20, GA44, GA19, GA17, GA53) and one C-13-non-hydroxylated GA (GA9) were identified by combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in leaf extracts. The total level of GA8, GA29, GA1, GA20, GA44, GA19 and GA53, determined by selected ion monitoring, was 7 times higher in elongating leaf bases than in mature leaf sheaths. In both leaf tissues, defoliation induced an increase in GA53 level, while GA20 and GA1 levels decreased, suggesting that the GA53→GA44, as well as GA19→GA20, conversions were slowed down. The roles of GA1 in the control of leaf elongation and fructan mobilization following defoliation are discussed.  相似文献

Effects of gibberellins A1, A4/7, A9, A19 and A20 and growth retardants were studied on shoot elongation in seedlings of Salix pentandra L. The growth-retarding effects of CCC and ancymidol were antagonized by all the gibberellins tested. The novel plant growth regulator prohexadione (free acid of BX-112), which is suggested to block 3β-hydroxylation of gibberellins, effectively prevented shoot elongation in seedlings grown under long photoperiod. Initiation of new leaves was only slightly reduced. GA1, but not GA19 and GA20, was active in overcoming the inhibition of stem elongation of seedlings, treated with prohexadione, GA19, GA20 and GA1 are native in S. pentandra , and the results are compatible with the hypothesis that GA1 is active per se in shoot elongation, and that the effect of GA19 and GA20 is dependent on their conversion to GA1.
A mixture of GA4 and GA7 was as active as GA1 in promoting shoot elongation in seedlings treated with prohexadione, while GA9 showed slight activity only when applied at high doses.  相似文献

Monthly determinations of frost hardiness of cloudberry ( Rubus chamaemorus L.) buds and rhizomes were done from October 1978 to October 1979. For buds LT50 (lethal temperature for 50% of the plant material) was calculated from the percentage of bud breaking and for rhizomes from visual estimations of the degree of coloring by triphenyltetrazolium chloride. The frost hardiness varied from—11.5°C in November to—4°C in May to July for buds and from—16°C in January to—3°C in June— July for rhizomes. Dehardening started in February while the plants were still covered with snow. In connection with the determinations of frost hardiness, carbohydrate analyses were done. There was a good correlation between the degree of frost hardiness and the amount of soluble carbohydrates determined with anthrone. Sucrose, determined by gas chromatography, seemed to be the sugar contributing most in this correlation.  相似文献

The HOIP ubiquitin E3 ligase generates linear ubiquitin chains by forming a complex with HOIL‐1L and SHARPIN in mammals. Here, we provide the first evidence of linear ubiquitination induced by a HOIP orthologue in Drosophila. We identify Drosophila CG11321, which we named Linear Ubiquitin E3 ligase (LUBEL), and find that it catalyzes linear ubiquitination in vitro. We detect endogenous linear ubiquitin chain‐derived peptides by mass spectrometry in Drosophila Schneider 2 cells and adult flies. Furthermore, using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, we establish linear ubiquitination‐defective flies by mutating residues essential for the catalytic activity of LUBEL. Linear ubiquitination signals accumulate upon heat shock in flies. Interestingly, flies with LUBEL mutations display reduced survival and climbing defects upon heat shock, which is also observed upon specific LUBEL depletion in muscle. Thus, LUBEL is involved in the heat response by controlling linear ubiquitination in flies.  相似文献

Initiation of dormancy in woody species is induced by a shortphotoperiod. In the early stages of dormancy development, growthcan be initiated by long days. To study the possible involvementof gibberellins and indole-3-acetic acid in bud break in Salixpentandra, effects on levels of these plant hormones of transferof seedlings in an early stage of dormancy to a growth-inductivelong photoperiod was investigated. The bud break and initiationof growth correlated with a rapid transient increase in GA1in defined zones of shoot tips to levels twice of that in continuouslyelongating long day-grown control seedlings, followed by a rapiddecrease to levels similar to in these control plants. Also,the contents of GA53, GA19, GA20, GA8 increased upon transferfrom short to long days. Levels of indole-3-acetic acid showeda gradual decline under short days, and increased graduallyupon transfer to long days up to a level of continuously elongatingplants. The present data suggest an interaction between gibberellinand indole-3-acetic acid in the photoperiodic control of dormancydevelopment and bud break in S. pentandra. Changes in the freezing tolerance for Silene acaulis L., a subarcticand arctic species of circumpolar distribution, were examinedto understand the extent of cold hardening and dehardening thatoccurs seasonally and with changes in plant phenology. Shootsof whole plants collected on a mountain ridge near Tromsø,Norway (69° N, 700 m above sea level) were frozen undercontrolled conditions at cooling rates of 3 to 4°C h-1.The extent of freezing-induced injury was examined both by chlorophyllfluorescence and by visual inspection with a microscope. A freezingtolerance level of -30°C was observed in mid-winter, basedon a 50% lethal point for freezing injury. Loss of cold hardinesswas substantial in mid-summer, with freezing tolerance of -8·5to -9°C observed in mid-July. The aim of this study was to find out whether the low plant production under a canopy of Heracleum laciniatum Horn was due to competition for water, nutrients or light or to chemical inhibitors produced by H. laciniatum .
The main conclusion is that the low plant production observed under the canopy is due to competition for light. There were also indications that the competition for nutrition was larger in the soil under H. laciniatum than in the meadow outside the stand, but it has not been shown that nutrient supply limits the plant growth under the canopy. There were no indications that competition for water was a limiting factor. Water percolated through pots with H. laciniatum plants slightly inhibited growth of Poa pratensis and Phleum pratense , but had no effect on H. laciniatum . In soil samples collected from mid of June to late October seeds of Phleum pratense germinated better in meadow-soil than in soil collected under H. laciniatum . Allelopathy is suggested to account for a minor part only of the suppressed plant production under a H. laciniatum canopy.  相似文献

The culture medium of Streptomyces xanthochromogenes JH903 was found to show selective activity against DNArepair-deficient Escherichia coli CM871 strain. In this report we describe a simple method to locate and isolate DNA binding compounds from the fermentation broth. The method is based on the retention of DNA-reacting compounds in cellulose complexed with DNA, and purification of these compounds with thin-layer chromatography. Screening of microbial metabolites from chloroform extracts of fermentation media resulted in detection of five genotoxic fractions.  相似文献
