The primate play-face is homologous to the human facial display accompanying laughter. Through facial mimicry, the play-face evokes in the perceiver a similar positive emotional state. This sensorimotor and emotional sharing can be adaptive, as it allows individuals to fine-tune their own motor sequences accordingly thus increasing cooperation in play. It has been recently demonstrated that, not only humans and apes, but also geladas are able to mimic others'' facial expressions. Here, we describe two forms of facial mimicry in Theropithecus gelada: rapid (RFM, within 1.0 s) and delayed (DFM, within 5.0 s). Play interactions characterized by the presence of RFM were longer than those with DFM thus suggesting that RFM is a good indicator of the quality of communicative exchanges and behavioral coordination. These findings agree with the proposal of a mirror mechanism operating during perception and imitation of facial expressions. In an evolutionary perspective, our findings suggest that RFM not only was already present in the common ancestor of cercopitecoids and hominoids, but also that there is a relationship between RFM and length and quality of playful interactions. 相似文献

Synaptotagmins are two C2 domain-containing transmembrane proteins. The function of calcium-sensitive members in the regulation of post-Golgi traffic has been well established whereas little is known about the calcium-insensitive isoforms constituting half of the protein family. Novel binding partners of synaptotagmin 11 were identified in β-cells. A number of them had been assigned previously to ER/Golgi derived-vesicles or linked to RNA synthesis, translation and processing. Whereas the C2A domain interacted with the Q-SNARE Vti1a, the C2B domain of syt11 interacted with the SND1, Ago2 and FMRP, components of the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). Binding to SND was direct via its N-terminal tandem repeats. Our data indicate that syt11 may provide a link between gene regulation by microRNAs and membrane traffic. 相似文献

The dynamic changes occurring during the catalytic cycle of MDR3 P-glycoprotein (Pgp) and the role of each nucleotide-binding domain (NBD) in the transport process were investigated using attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. For this purpose, wild-type Pgp and two mutations of homologous residues in each NBD were studied. On the one hand, we demonstrate here that, during its catalytic cycle, Pgp does not undergo secondary structure changes, but only modifications in its stability and accessibility to the external environment. On the other hand, amide H/D exchange kinetics demonstrate that homologous mutations in the two NBDs affect, in a different way, the dynamic properties of Pgp and also the dynamic changes occurring during ATP hydrolysis. These observations led to the conclusion that the NBDs have an asymmetric structure and different functions in the catalytic cycle of Pgp. Our data suggest that the release of drug from the membrane into the extracellular environment is due to decreased stability and/or increased accessibility to the external medium of the membrane-embedded drug-binding site(s). NBD1 would play an important role in this first restructuring of the membrane-embedded domains. NBD2 would be directly implicated in the subsequent restructuring of the membrane-embedded binding sites by which they recover their initial stability and accessibility to the membrane. Hyperhomocysteinemia, or abnormally high plasma homocysteine (Hcy) concentration, has often been associated with vascular thrombosis and the development of premature atherosclerosis. Many studies have shown that moderate wine consumption has potential beneficial effects related to the prevention of atherosclerosis, in part attributed to the biological properties of polyphenolic components, mainly flavonoids. The aim of the present study is to determine the effects of a red wine polyphenolic extract (PE) administration on hyperhomocysteinemia due to cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) deficiency and on the associated biochemical markers of hepatic and endothelial dysfunctions in mice. Red wine PE was added for 4 weeks to the drinking water of heterozygous CBS-deficient mice fed a high-methionine diet, a murine model of hyperhomocysteinemia. Red wine PE supplementation at low dose significantly reduced plasma Hcy levels and restored the hepatic and plasma-decreased paraoxonase-1 activity induced by chronic hyperhomocysteinemia. Moreover, aortic expression of proinflammatory cytokines and adhesion molecules and levels of soluble lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 were reduced in hyperhomocysteinemic mice fed the red wine PE supplementation. These findings suggest that red wine PE administration in low quantities has beneficial effects on biochemical markers of endothelial dysfunction due to hyperhomocysteinemia. 相似文献

The fluorescent dye 10-N-nonyl acridine orange (NAO), known as specifically associated with mitochondria, has been reported to have a cytotoxic effect when high doses were applied to cells. Presently, the biochemical basis of its toxicity was investigated on isolated rat liver mitochondria. At low concentrations, NAO strongly inhibited state 3 respiration and ATP synthesis. At high concentrations, electron transport, ATP hydrolysis, Pi-transport and adenine nucleotide activities were also decreased. All these inhibitions can be explained by probe-cardiolipin interactions which could induce the collapse of energy conversion and/or the modification of membrane fluidity. 相似文献

Nudix hydrolases are conserved enzymes ubiquitously present in all kingdoms of life. Recent research revealed that several Nudix hydrolases are involved in terpenoid metabolism in plants. In modern roses, RhNUDX1 is responsible for formation of geraniol, a major compound of rose scent. Nevertheless, this compound is produced by monoterpene synthases in many geraniol-producing plants. As a consequence, this raised the question about the origin of RhNUDX1 function and the NUDX1 gene evolution in Rosaceae, in wild roses or/and during the domestication process. Here, we showed that three distinct clades of NUDX1 emerged in the Rosoidae subfamily (Nudx1-1 to Nudx1-3 clades), and two subclades evolved in the Rosa genus (Nudx1-1a and Nudx1-1b subclades). We also showed that the Nudx1-1b subclade was more ancient than the Nudx1-1a subclade, and that the NUDX1-1a gene emerged by a trans-duplication of the more ancient NUDX1-1b gene. After the transposition, NUDX1-1a was cis-duplicated, leading to a gene dosage effect on the production of geraniol in different species. Furthermore, the NUDX1-1a appearance was accompanied by the evolution of its promoter, most likely from a Copia retrotransposon origin, leading to its petal-specific expression. Thus, our data strongly suggest that the unique function of NUDX1-1a in geraniol formation was evolved naturally in the genus Rosa before domestication. 相似文献

Calcareous grasslands have long been recognized as biodiversity hotspots in Europe. However, in recent decades these ecosystems have seen rapid decline. In Belgium, more than 100 ha of calcareous grasslands have been restored from oak coppices and pine forests since the 1990s. The aim of the present study was to provide a quantitative assessment of the success of these restoration efforts, using two sets of indicators: one related to soil conditions, the other related to vascular plant communities. Soil conditions were evaluated by comparing soil samples from pre-restoration forest stands, restored grasslands (3-age classes: 2–4 years; 5–8 years, and 10–15 years) and reference grasslands. The analysis revealed no significant differences in soil N, P, and K contents between pre-restoration forests and restored and reference grasslands. We observed a decrease in the mineralization rate indicators in both pre-restoration forests and recent grassland restorations, which was resorbed in older restorations. Floristic surveys revealed that plant species composition of older restorations was most like reference grasslands. However, some differences in species composition persisted after 15 years. Moreover, a few rare species did not colonize restored grasslands despite a close seed source. Non-recolonization by a set of species expected on calcareous grasslands may be due to dispersal limitation and higher cover by native invasive grasses in restored parcels.
