Lipoic acid supplementation has been found to be beneficial in preventing neurovascular abnormalities in diabetic neuropathy. Insufficient (Na(+) + K(+))-ATPase activity has been suggested as a contributing factor in the development of diabetic neuropathy. This study was undertaken to test the hypothesis that lipoic acid reduces lipid peroxidation and glycosylation and can increase the (Na(+) + K(+))- and Ca(++)-ATPase activities in high glucose-exposed red blood cells (RBC). Washed normal human RBC were treated with normal (6 mM) and high glucose concentrations (45 mM) with 0-0.2 mM lipoic acid (mixture of S and R sterioisomers) in a shaking water bath at 37 degrees C for 24 h. There was a significant stimulation of glucose consumption by RBC in the presence of lipoic acid both in normal and high glucose-treated RBC. Lipoic acid significantly lowered the level of glycated hemoglobin (GHb) and lipid peroxidation in RBC exposed to high glucose concentrations. High glucose treatment significantly lowered the activities of (Na(+) + K(+))- and Ca(++)-ATPases of RBC membranes. Lipoic acid addition significantly blocked the reduction in activities of (Na(+) + K(+))- and Ca(++)-ATPases in high glucose- treated RBC. There were no differences in lipid peroxidation, GHb and (Na(+) + K(+))- and Ca(++)-ATPase activity levels in normal glucose-treated RBC with and without lipoic acid. Thus, lipoic acid can lower lipid peroxidation and protein glycosylation, and increase (Na(+) + K(+))- and Ca(++)-ATPase activities in high-glucose exposed RBC, which provides a potential mechanism by which lipoic acid may delay or inhibit the development of neuropathy in diabetes. 相似文献

The influence of dietary iron deficiency on acute nickel, lead or cadmium toxicity as reflected by the induction of hepatic, renal and intestinal metallothionein (MT), disposition of the metals, and alterations in hematological parameters was investigated in rats. The administration of cadmium induced the hepatic, renal and intestinal MT while that of nickel or lead induced hepatic MT only. However, dietary iron deficiency did not influence the cadmium induced tissue MT but enhanced the ability of nickel or lead to restore the normal synthesis of renal and intestinal MT lowered under the influence of reduced body iron status. The accumulation of lead in liver and kidney and that of cadmium enhanced in liver only, while tissue deposition of nickel remained unaffected by iron deficiency. The induction of hepatic MT by three metals appears related to the concomitant rise in the hepatic zinc, calcium and iron levels in normal rats. However, dietary iron deficiency increased the hepatic zinc in response to nickel or cadmium and that of heptic calcium in response to lead. 相似文献

This study was conducted to determine effects of nitrogen supply (75 and 150 kg(N) ha−1) and CO2 enrichment on partitioning of macro and micro nutrients in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. HD-2285). Plants were grown from seedling emergence to maturity inside open top chambers under ambient CO2 (CA, 350 ± 50 μmol mol−1) and elevated CO2 (CE, 600 ± 50 μmol mol−1). Leaves, stems and roots of the same physiological age were analyzed for carbon, nitrogen, calcium, copper, iron, zinc and
manganese content at 40, 60 and 90 d after germination. C, Cu, Mn and Zn content was higher in the stem, leaves and roots

Linaria qartobensis, from southern Iberian Peninsula, is here newly described, illustrated and compared with its morphologically closest relatives from L. sect. Supinae: L. ricardoi and L. orbensis. The new species is characterized by longer calyx lobes, corolla and spur, violet corolla with yellow‐orangish palate, big and globose capsule, and seeds with black and prominently white‐tuberculate disc and subentire wing. Linaria qartobensis is an endemic species growing on marly deposits from the Guadalquivir river basin, in the Córdoba province (Andalusia, Spain). 相似文献

Sixty-one populations ofLimnanthes sect.Reflexae were surveyed for variation at 19 allozyme loci and reassessed for their morphological diversity and biosystematic relationships. Cluster analysis of allozyme data at individual population level provided evidence for a fairly good fit with the earlier systematic work on this genus but both morphological and allozyme data together defined some new clusters as well as exceptional entities. For example, only var.rosea of the fourL. douglasii varieties described byMason (1952) on the basis of geographical distribution, flower color and leaf morphology, remained as a distinct entity; the others were realigned along new geographic boundaries.L. striata appeared to have two well-developed subgroups, one of which was closely related to theL. douglasii complex. Further ecogeographic and hybridization studies are needed to fully describe these new phenetic findings in the context of phylogenetic inference. SectionInflexae was readily distinguished from sect.Reflexae by several diagnostic loci, thus supporting the validity of this division. Interspecific variation levels and population differentiation inLimnanthes were high when compared to other plant taxa, possibly indicating highly dynamic evolutionary processes for which variable habitats and extreme subdivision within species have been suggested as explanations. 相似文献

The Polycomb group (PcG) proteins play a critical role in histone mediated epigenetics which has been implicated in the malignant evolution of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). By systematically interrogating The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), we discovered widespread aberrant expression of the PcG members in GBM samples compared to normal brain. The most striking differences were upregulation of EZH2, PHF19, CBX8 and PHC2 and downregulation of CBX7, CBX6, EZH1 and RYBP. Interestingly, changes in EZH2, PHF19, CBX7, CBX6 and EZH1 occurred progressively as astrocytoma grade increased. We validated the aberrant expression of CBX6, CBX7, CBX8 and EZH2 in GBM cell lines by Western blotting and qRT-PCR, and further the aberrant expression of CBX6 in GBM tissue samples by immunohistochemical staining. To determine if there was functional significance to the diminished CBX6 levels in GBM, CBX6 was overexpressed in GBM cells resulting in decreased proliferative capacity. In conclusion, aberrant expression of PcG proteins in GBMs may play a role in the development or maintenance of the malignancy. 相似文献
