Environmental factors affecting essential oils variability in Thymus piperella L. are studied. The relationship between the bioclimatics index and edaphic factors with three chemotypes is determined through the application of multivariate analysis (CANOCO) and other statistical processes to both ecological and the essential oil data set components. Chemotype p-cymene γ-terpinene carvacrol shows a positive relationship with the aridity index (Ia) and Altitude. The p-cymene thymol chemotype is related to factors affecting water balance in both the soils and plants. The influence of climatic factors over p-cymene carvacrol is less evident. The compound p-cymene, common to the three chemical groups and the most abundant of all, presents positive correlation with the organic matter in the soil.  相似文献

The prefrontal (PFC) and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) appear to be associated with both executive functions and olfaction. However, there is little data relating olfactory processing and executive functions in humans. The present study aimed at exploring the role of olfaction on executive functioning, making a distinction between primary and more cognitive aspects of olfaction. Three executive tasks of similar difficulty were used. One was used to assess hot executive functions (Iowa Gambling Task-IGT), and two as a measure of cold executive functioning (Stroop Colour and Word Test-SCWT and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test-WCST). Sixty two healthy participants were included: 31 with normosmia and 31 with hyposmia. Olfactory abilities were assessed using the ‘‘Sniffin’ Sticks’’ test and the olfactory threshold, odour discrimination and odour identification measures were obtained. All participants were female, aged between 18 and 60. Results showed that participants with hyposmia displayed worse performance in decision making (IGT; Cohen’s-d = 0.91) and cognitive flexibility (WCST; Cohen’s-d between 0.54 and 0.68) compared to those with normosmia. Multiple regression adjusted by the covariates participants’ age and education level showed a positive association between odour identification and the cognitive inhibition response (SCWT-interference; Beta = 0.29; p = .034). The odour discrimination capacity was not a predictor of the cognitive executive performance. Our results suggest that both hot and cold executive functions seem to be associated with higher-order olfactory functioning in humans. These results robustly support the hypothesis that olfaction and executive measures have a common neural substrate in PFC and OFC, and suggest that olfaction might be a reliable cognitive marker in psychiatric and neurologic disorders.  相似文献

Multiheme c-type cytochromes (MHCs) are metalloproteins that can play various biochemical roles, including enzymatic activity and electron transfer. As electron transfer proteins, the presence of multiple heme cofactors in the vicinity allows electrons to rapidly travel relatively long distances. MHCs are often characterized by relatively low structural complexity, with the heme cofactors being largely responsible for maintaining the structure in place, owing to the protein–heme covalent linkages. In this work, we analyzed an extensive ensemble of 594 complete prokaryotic proteomes, amounting to more than 1.9 million sequences, to characterize their content in MHCs. We identified 1,659 MHCs in 258 organisms. The presence of MHCs was found to correlate quite well with the capability of an organism to synthesize or take up heme. For two organisms, the presence of MHCs in the proteome could be taken as a hint to the presence of divergent heme uptake pathways. The most common numbers of heme-binding motifs in a sequence were four (25%) and two (23%), followed by five (13%) and ten (9.8%). The average protein-to-heme ratio was relatively similar for all MHCs, except diheme proteins, regardless of the number of motifs at around 60 ± 30. The latter ratio could in favorable cases be a useful indicator for functional assignments of novel MHCs. Finally, we showed that the amount of structural information currently available for MHCs is limited with respect to the diversity of this broad class of metalloproteins. Experimental efforts in the structural investigation of MHCs are thus warranted.  相似文献

Summary The assimilatory nitrate reductase of the N2-fixing bacterium Azotobacter chroococcum has been prepared in a soluble form from cells grown with nitrate as the nitrogen source, and some of its properties (electron donors and cofactors, K mvalues for substrates, molecular weight, inhibitors, activators, etc.) have been studied. The enzyme is of an inducible nature and can exist in two interconvertible forms, either active or inactive.Tungstate very efficiently inhibits growth of the microorganism in media with nitrate. When either nitrite or ammonia are substituted for nitrate as the nitrogen source, growth is unaffected by tungstate concentrations which otherwise completely suppress growth on nitrate. Tungstate interferes by decreasing the cellular level of nitrate reductase activity, preventing, as a consequence, utilization of nitrate.  相似文献

DNA priming has previously been shown to elicit augmented immune responses when administered by electroporation (EP) or codelivered with a plasmid encoding interleukin-12 (pIL-12). We hypothesized that the efficacy of a DNA prime and recombinant adenovirus 5 boost vaccination regimen (DNA/rAd5) would be improved when incorporating these vaccination strategies into the DNA priming phase, as determined by pathogenic simian immunodeficiency virus SIVmac239 challenge outcome. The whole SIVmac239 proteome was delivered in 5 separate DNA plasmids (pDNA-SIV) by EP with or without pIL-12, followed by boosting 4 months later with corresponding rAd5-SIV vaccine vectors. Remarkably, after repeated low-dose SIVmac239 mucosal challenge, we demonstrate 2.6 and 4.4 log reductions of the median SIV peak and set point viral loads in rhesus macaques (RMs) that received pDNA-SIV by EP with pIL-12 compared to the median peak and set point viral loads in mock-immunized controls (P < 0.01). In 5 out of 6 infected RMs, strong suppression of viremia was observed, with intermittent "blips" in virus replication. In 2 RMs, we could not detect the presence of SIV RNA in tissue and lymph nodes, even after 13 viral challenges. RMs immunized without pIL-12 demonstrated a typical maximum of 1.5 log reduction in virus load. There was no significant difference in the overall magnitude of SIV-specific antibodies or CD8 T-cell responses between groups; however, pDNA delivery by EP with pIL-12 induced a greater magnitude of SIV-specific CD4 T cells that produced multiple cytokines. This vaccine strategy is relevant for existing vaccine candidates entering clinical evaluation, and this model may provide insights into control of retrovirus replication.  相似文献

Gestodene acidic treatment afforded a single rearrangement product, namely 13-beta-ethyl-18,19-dinorpregna-4,14,16-trien-3,20-dione 3, which was originated through HCl-catalyzed Rupe rearrangement. Drospirenone acidic treatment yielded two epimeric lactones by addition of HCl to the 6beta,7beta-cyclopropane ring, namely 7beta-(chloromethyl)-15beta,16beta-methylene-3-oxo-17beta-pregn-4-ene-21,17-carbolactone 4 and 7beta-(chloromethyl)-15beta,16beta-methylene-3-oxo-17alpha-pregn-4-ene-21,17-carbolactone 5. The structure of the compounds was assessed by spectroscopic and crystallographic methods.  相似文献
