The present study sought to determine which of the common Poaceae species in the study area contribute most to the Poaceae pollen season curve, and to determine the phenological behaviour of the species studied. The different floral phenophases in thirty-three Poaceae species common in and around the city of Córdoba (SW Iberian Peninsula) were checked periodically over the period 2004–2006. Results showed that longer phenological ranges were recorded in the coolest and wettest year, and shorter ranges in the warmest and driest year. Moreover, ranges varied as a function of altitude: populations in lower-lying areas flowered earlier than those at higher altitudes. The results, taken in conjunction with the findings of preliminary research into potential pollen production, showed that probably only four of the Poaceae species studied—Dactylis glomerata, Lolium rigidum, Trisetaria panicea and Vulpia geniculata—were major contributors to the Poaceae airborne pollen curve.  相似文献

Following the programme started at Janssen Research Foundation searching for 5-HT(2A/2C) antagonists, we now report on the synthesis of a series of substituted 2-(Dimethylaminomethyl)-2,3,3a,8-tetrahydrodibenzo[c,f]isoxazolo[2,3-a]azepine derivatives. The 5-HT(2A), 5-HT(2C) and H(1) receptor affinities as well as the mCPP antagonistic activity of the compounds synthesised is described.  相似文献

We compared changes in body condition (relative weight) and mercury concentrations ([Hg]) in two species of coregonid fish (lake herring Coregonus artedi, lake whitefish C. clupeaformis) among discrete populations in Ontario between 1967 and 2006. Temporal comparisons among populations were made to determine whether 1) the establishment of Bythotrephes longimanus had affected coregonid populations, or 2) if changes in body condition or [Hg] were related to regional differences in the degree of climate change during the time period investigated. Climate data from northwestern, northeastern and southern Ontario showed a general warming trend in all regions over the period of study. However, greater temporal changes in climate were observed in the northwest where growing degree days >5°C (GDD) increased and precipitation declined over the study period compared with relatively little change in southern or northeastern Ontario. Correspondingly, northwestern Ontario coregonid populations demonstrated significantly greater declines in body condition relative to those from northeastern or southern Ontario. Declines in [Hg] of both species were also greater among northwestern populations compared with those from northeastern or southern Ontario but only significantly so for lake herring. These declines were independent of the invasion of non‐native Bythotrephes, and declines in [Hg] were opposite predictions based on the hypothesis that Bythotrephes invasion lengthened aquatic food chains. Based on our findings and further evidence from the literature, we propose that warming regional climates are capable of contributing to declines in both condition and [Hg] of fishes. Because fish condition affects both reproductive success and overwinter survival, observed condition declines of the magnitude reported here could have profound implications for the structure of future aquatic ecosystems in a warming climate.  相似文献

Bilateral electrolytic lesions restricted to the lateral, basolateral and basomedial amygdaloid nuclei in mice produced a lack of avoidance responses towards novel stimuli. While controls showed avoidance and burying reactions to a novel object introduced into their familiar environment, lesioned mice displayed a high number of approach responses and a low level of burying reactions. Furthermore, when given the opportunity to move around freely in simultaneously presented novel and familiar places, control mice at first exhibited avoidance reactions to the novel environment before showing novelty preference. There were no avoidance reactions in lesioned mice. These data are consistent with the hypothesis that amygdala plays a specific role in the regulation of defensive reactions.  相似文献

We have integrated and coordinately expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae a xylose isomerase and cellobiose phosphorylase from Ruminococcus flavefaciens that enables fermentation of glucose, xylose, and cellobiose under completely anaerobic conditions. The native xylose isomerase was active in cell-free extracts from yeast transformants containing a single integrated copy of the gene. We improved the activity of the enzyme and its affinity for xylose by modifications to the 5′-end of the gene, site-directed mutagenesis, and codon optimization. The improved enzyme, designated RfCO*, demonstrated a 4.8-fold increase in activity compared to the native xylose isomerase, with a Km for xylose of 66.7?mM and a specific activity of 1.41?μmol/min/mg. In comparison, the native xylose isomerase was found to have a Km for xylose of 117.1?mM and a specific activity of 0.29?μmol/min/mg. The coordinate over-expression of RfCO* along with cellobiose phosphorylase, cellobiose transporters, the endogenous genes GAL2 and XKS1, and disruption of the native PHO13 and GRE3 genes allowed the fermentation of glucose, xylose, and cellobiose under completely anaerobic conditions. Interestingly, this strain was unable to utilize xylose or cellobiose as a sole carbon source for growth under anaerobic conditions, thus minimizing yield loss to biomass formation and maximizing ethanol yield during their fermentation.  相似文献

The mitochondrial nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, reduced (NADH) dehydrogenase complex (complex I) of plants has a molecular mass of about 1000 kDa and is composed of more than 40 distinct protein subunits. About three quarter of these subunits are homologous to complex I subunits of heterotrophic eukaryotes, whereas the remaining subunits are unique to plants. Among them are three to five structurally related proteins that resemble an archaebacterial γ-type carbonic anhydrase (γCA). The γCA subunits are attached to the membrane arm of complex I on the matrix-exposed side and form an extra spherical domain. At the same time, they span the inner mitochondrial membrane and are essential for assembly of the protein complex. Expression of the genes encoding γCA subunits is reduced if plants are cultivated in the presence of elevated CO2 concentration. The functional role of these subunits within plant mitochondria is currently unknown but might be related to photorespiration. We propose that the complex I–integrated γCAs are involved in mitochondrial HCO3 formation to allow efficient recycling of inorganic carbon for CO2 fixation in chloroplasts under high light conditions.  相似文献

In the present paper we discuss the properties of a recently developed preparation of isolated neurosecretory nerve endings obtained from the rate neurohypophysis. These nerve terminals release two neurohormones, oxytocin and vasopressin, which are easily assayed by radioimmunoassay. Depolarization-induced secretion is dependent on the same parameters as those regulating release from the whole neural lobe. The isolated nerve endings can be permeabilized by means of digitonin; a treatment which gives direct access to the cytoplasm allowing the study of the minimal requirements for inducing neuropeptide release. Furthermore, some nerve endings are large enough to allow the use of the patch-clamp technique. In the present paper we present evidences which show that the isolated neurohypophysial nerve terminals represent a protent tool for studying the mechanism of stimulus-secretion.  相似文献

Chalcone synthase (CHS) genes in Petunia hybrida comprise a multigene family containing at least 7 complete members in the strain Violet 30 (V30). Based on a high sequence homology in both coding and non-coding sequence, a number of CHS genes can be placed into two subfamilies. By restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis it was shown that both chromosomes II and V carry one of these subfamilies, in addition to the other CHS genes identified so far. Members of a subfamily were found to be closely linked genetically. Analysis of the Petunia species that contributed to the hybrid nature of P. hybrida (P. axillaris, P. parodii, P. inflata and P. violacea) shows that none of the CHS gene clusters is specific for either one of the parents and therefore did not arise as a consequence of the hybridization. The number of CHS genes within a subfamily varies considerably among these Petunia species. From this we infer that the CHS subfamilies arose from very recent gene duplications.  相似文献

Photosynthetically active vesicles prepared from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii retained a light-dependent glutamate synthase activity which was highly specific for 2-oxoglutarate (Km=2.1 mM) and L-glutamine (Km=0.9 mM) as amido group acceptor and donor respectively. This activity was inhibited by azaserine, p-hydroxymercuribenzoate and 3-(p-chlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethyl urea.Light-dependent synthesis of glutamate was also obtained by coupling Chlamydomonas photosynthetic particles to purified ferredoxin-glutamate synthase, using ascorbate and 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol as electron donor. This system was also specific for 2-oxoglutarate (Km=1 mM) and L-glutamine (Km=0.8 mM) as substrates, and was stimulated by dithioerythritol.
