A new gas-liquid chromatographic method was developed for the determination of diethylether in whole blood. Ether was quantitated by peak area ratio analysis with n-propanol as the internal standard using a flame ionization detector. Blood ether concentrations were determined in cats undergoing inhalational anesthesia by ether in oxygen. In normal spontaneously breathing cats, anesthesia began at ether concentrations of about 0.6 g/l, and respiratory arrest occurred at 2.4 g/l and above. Mean arterial blood pressure was well maintained throughout the entire anesthetic range. In spinal artificially respired animals, mean arterial blood pressure correlated inversely with blood ether concentration. The data suggest that decline in blood pressure may be a useful sign of ether toxicity in spinal cats.  相似文献

Intraperitoneal stimulation of adoptively sensitized rats with bacterial antigen promotes the localization of lymphoblasts at the site of antigen deposition. Lymphoblast extravasation activity (LEA) is generated only when specifically immune donor lymphocytes and the recipients of these cells share at least on Ag-B haplotype. However, if the specificity criteria for its formation are satisfied, LEA promotes the local development of lymphoblasts of all available specificities and irrespective of their Ag-B genotype. Allogeneic lymphoblasts do not participate actively in the delayed inflammatory reaction even when they are passively recruited into exudates. The results suggest that LEA is a T cell-derived mediator that amplifies the delayed type hypersensitivity reaction by directing recently activated lymphocytes into lesions.  相似文献

Ffh is a component of a bacterial ribonucleoprotein complex homologous to the signal recognition particle (SRP) of eukaryotes. It comprises three domains that mediate both binding to the hydrophobic signal sequence of the nascent polypeptide and the GTP-dependent interaction of Ffh with a structurally homologous GTPase of the SRP receptor. The X-ray structures of the two-domain 'NG' GTPase of Ffh in complex with Mg2+GDP and GDP have been determined at 2.0 A resolution. The structures explain the low nucleotide affinity of Ffh and locate two regions of structural mobility at opposite sides of the nucleotide-binding site. One of these regions includes highly conserved sequence motifs that presumably contribute to the structural trigger signaling the GTP-bound state. The other includes the highly conserved interface between the N and G domains, and supports the hypothesis that the N domain regulates or signals the nucleotide occupancy of the G domain.  相似文献

Modern nutritional studies have found that diverse diets are linked to lower infant mortality rates and longer life expectancies in humans. This is primarily because humans require more than fifty essential nutrients for growth and cell maintenance and repair; most of these essential nutrients must come from outside food sources rather than being manufactured by the body itself; and a diversity of food types is required to consume the full suite of essential nutrients necessary for optimal human health. These principles and their related affects on human adaptations and demography are the hallmarks of a theoretical paradigm defined as nutritional ecology. This essay applies concepts derived from nutritional ecology to the study of human evolution. Principles of nutritional ecology are applied to the study of the Middle‐to‐Upper Paleolithic transition in order to broadly illustrate the interpretive ramifications of this approach. At any stage in human evolution, those hominid populations that chose to diversify their subsistence base may have had a selective advantage over competitors who restricted their diet principally to one food type, such as terrestrial mammals.  相似文献

The results of a survey of sugar beet growers are reported which provide subjective information on farmer perceptions of the hazard from pests and diseases on sugar beet, the control methods available and used, farmers' estimates of the costs and effect of controls, their objectives for pest control, and their attitudes to advice. In addition, objective information from research and field observations on losses and control methods is provided. The basis of pest control decisions and implications from comparisons of subjective and objective perceptions of the various problems and solutions are discussed.  相似文献
