2 or 3 years follow-up of 13 hypothalamotomy patients with alcohol and drug addiction reveals that the addicted patients regained their self-control, the severe preoperative social deterioration was removed, and the tendency to social stabilisation was clearly in evidence.  相似文献

cAMP/theophylline exaggerates cell shape—whether the fibroblastic morphology of controls or the epithelioid shape of colchicine-treated cells. The ultrastructural basis is that cAMP/theophylline increases the number and linearity of microtubules and microfilament bundles, although where also treated with colchicine, the cells adopt a well-spread shape maintained by microfilament bundles alone. Since interference reflection microscopy shows that colchicine promotes the marked alignment of focal contacts (which terminate microfilament bundles) it is concluded that microtubules encourage angular cell form and modify the pattern of adhesions by influencing the directionality of microfilament bundle formation although they are inessential for the maintenance of the spread form or adhesion per se.  相似文献

When the thymidine analog BrdU was incorporated into the DNA of a fibroblast cell line derived from the cactus mouse Peromyscus eremicus, a chromosome region with an increased frequency of gaps and breaks was observed. Nearly a third of the chromatid aberrations found at this site were associated with a sister-chromatid exchange (SCE) although this chromosome region showed no increase in sister-chromatid exchange in the absence of a gap or break. SCEs were significantly decreased in the remainder of the chromosome arm when it contained an aberration at the unstable site. This BrdU-sensitive region, unlike others reported, was found not to be late-replicating. — In this chromosome complement, the frequency of sisterchromatid exchange in C-band positive regions was significantly lower than that in C-band negative regions.  相似文献

Summary Enhanced rates of ethanol production byPachysolen tannophilus from D-xylose were obtained by performing the fermentation with recycled cells in suspension culture or immobilized in a Ca-alginate gel. Fermentation under these conditions did not require aeration. Cysteine metabolism has been thought to be important to the phenomenon of dimorphism inHistoplasma capsulatum. We sought mutants with genetic blocks in the metabolism of cysteine by selection of colonies resistant to the toxic analogue, selenocystine. The 22 resistant strains thus obtained were all deficient in uptake of cystine from the surrounding medium but were normally able to convert from mycelium to yeast and back again. Furthermore, they had normal quantities of NADH-dependent cystine reductase when this enzyme was measured. We conclude that mutants defective in cystine uptake can be readily obtained by selection of colonies resistant to selenocystine, and that a lesion in cystine-uptake does not appear to affect the phenomenon of dimorphism in this organism.Preliminary reports of this work were presented at the Second International Congress of Mycology, Tampa, 1977 and at the first International Conference on Histoplasmosis, Atlanta, 1978.  相似文献

A simple and rapid radiochemical method for the determination of N-acetyl-L-aspartic acid amidohydrolase (EC 3.5.1.15) activity using ion exchange chromatography has been developed. The activity of this enzyme in the developing brain and some non-nervous tissues of the chicken has been determined. No activity of the enzyme could be detected in the brains of chick embroys prior to 14 days of gestation; activities gradually increased thereafter to adult levels which are about 60% of that found in the adult rat. In non-nervous system tissues of the adult chicken, activities varied from high levels in the kidney to low levels in heart and breast muscle. Treatment of the homogenates of the adult tissues with a detergent significantly increased the enzyme activity, suggesting that a portion of the enzyme is membrane bound.  相似文献

Summary The embryo ofSabellaria cementarium (Polychaeta) forms a polar lobe at each of the first two cleavage divisions which becomes absorbed into one of the blastomeres at the end of the division. Lobe removal experiments show that the polar lobe preceding first cleavage is necessary for the development of the apical tuft and the posttrochal region of the trochophore larva. The polar lobe preceding second cleavage is smaller than the first polar lobe and is necessary only for post-trochal region development. In blastomere isolation experiments, isolates containing the C but not the D blastomere form apical tufts. Isolates containing the D but not the C blastomere do not form apical tufts. When the polar lobe preceding second cleavage is removed and the C and D blastomeres are separated and raised in isolation, each can form an apical tuft. When the second cleavage is equalized with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) such that both the C and the D blastomeres receive second polar lobe material, no apical tuft is formed. These results suggest that apical tuft determinants are distributed to both the C and D blastomeres at second cleavage but that the second polar lobe contains an inhibitor for apical tuft formation which is shunted to the D blastomere after the completion of second cleavage.  相似文献
