The seasonal variation of Aspergillus in the atmosphere of Mexico City was determined, using an Andersen air sampler, at different times of the day, over a period of one year. Aspergillus represented a low percentage of the total mould count, 5%, 4%, and 2% in the morning, noon, and night respectively. It was possible only in the morning to observe a seasonal trend for Aspergillus, with high colony numbers during the dry season. However, the highest CFUm-3 were detected in April for the three sampling times of the day. Different percentages of negative growth plates were recorded during the sampling time, but a large percentage was recorded at noon. Multiple regresional analyses indicate that significant correlations exist between Aspergillus CFUm-3 and vapor pressure and temperature inversion in the morning, and with temperature and daily range of temperature at night. Fourteen species of Aspergillus were identified, but A. niger, A. fumigatus, and A. flavus were the most abundant. 相似文献

Access to an evaporative cooling system can increase production in dairy cows because of improved thermal comfort. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of ambient temperature on thermoregulation, plasma cortisol, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-I), and productive status, and to determine the efficiency of an evaporative cooling system on physiological responses under different weather patterns. A total of 28 Holstein cows were divided into two groups, one with and the other without access to a cooling system with fans and mist in the free stall. The parameters were analyzed during morning (0700 hours) and afternoon milking (1430 hours) under five different weather patterns throughout the year (fall, winter, spring, dry summer, and rainy summer). Rectal temperature (RT), body surface temperature (BS), base of tail temperature (TT), and respiratory frequency (RF) were lower in the morning (P?<?0.01). The cooling system did not affect RT, and both the groups had values below 38.56 over the year (P?=?0.11). Cortisol and IGF-I may have been influenced by the seasons, in opposite ways. Cortisol concentrations were higher in winter (P?<?0.05) and IGF-I was higher during spring-summer (P?<?0.05). The air temperature and the temperature humidity index showed positive moderate correlations to RT, BS, TT, and RF (P?<?0.001). Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is one of the common global diseases. Flaxseed is by far the richest source of the dietary lignans (i.e., secoisolariciresinol diglucoside) which have been shown to delay the development of T2DM in animal models. Silica is well known for its role as inducible defence mechanism countering herbivore attack, mainly through precipitation of opaline, biogenic silica (BSi) bodies (phytoliths) in plant epidermal tissues. Even though grazing strongly interacts with other element cycles, its impact on terrestrial silica cycling has never been thoroughly considered. Here, BSi content of ingested grass, hay and faeces of large herbivores was quantified by performing multiple chemical extraction procedures for BSi, allowing the assessment of chemical reactivity. Dissolution experiments with grass and faeces were carried out to measure direct availability of BSi for dissolution. Average BSi and readily soluble silica numbers were higher in faeces as compared with grass or hay, and differences between herbivores could be related to distinct digestive strategies. Reactivity and dissolvability of BSi increases after digestion, mainly due to degradation of organic matrices, resulting in higher silica turnover rates and mobilization potential from terrestrial to aquatic ecosystems in non-grazed versus grazed pasture systems (2 versus 20 kg Si ha−1 y−1). Our results suggest a crucial yet currently unexplored role of herbivores in determining silica export from land to ocean, where its availability is linked to eutrophication events and carbon sequestration through C–Si diatom interactions. 相似文献

Fucoid macroalgae are important primary producers and habitat modifiers on North Atlantic intertidal rocky shores. With decreasing latitude, western European fucoid populations display reduced levels of abundance, biomass and recruitment, while experiencing higher levels of physical environmental stress during summer months. We hypothesized that such reduction in the south is accompanied by a detectable decline in fucoid reproductive capacity. To test this hypothesis, morphological and reproductive traits of core (Welsh) and marginal (Portuguese) populations of two common fucoid species, Fucus vesiculosus and F. spiralis (Ochrophyta, Fucales), were examined. Morphological measurements showed that for a given thallus length, both fucoid species had smaller thallus volume and lower biomass in the southerly marginal part of the range. Significantly lower biomass of reproductive tissue of F. vesiculosus and a smaller number of receptacles per individual on specimens of both species indicate that levels of reproductive output are probably lower in southern populations. Despite the differences in reproductive traits observed between regions, reproductive effort (measured as the percentage of total dry biomass represented by reproductive tissue) of both species remained similar, as algae from both regions made similar investments in reproduction. The results indicate that stressful conditions reduced growth and number of receptacles of both species and amount of reproductive biomass of F. vesiculosus in the south but do not seem to change the way these algal species invest their energy. The decline in mass and reproductive biomass of specimens from southern shores found in this study, when combined with the lower abundance of adults and lower recruitment levels previously observed, is a strong indication of fucoid populations with lower levels of propagule output. Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) is an important signaling molecule in the central nervous system (CNS) and in non-neuronal tissues and organs. Serotonin mediates a positive chronotropic and inotropic response through 5-HT4 receptors in the atrium and ventricle of the heart. Recent investigations have revealed increased expression of the 5-HT4(b) isoform in cardiomyocytes of chronic arrhythmic and failing hearts, and that the use of 5-HT4 receptor antagonists may be beneficial for treating these conditions. The 5-HT4 receptor possesses a transmembrane (TM) binding site important for ligand affinity and recognition, as well as a capacity to accommodate bulky ligands. A new series of peripherally-acting 5-HT4 receptor antagonists were prepared by combining the acidic biphenyl group from the class of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) with the SB207266 (piboserod) scaffold. The new compounds were pharmacologically evaluated and carboxylic acid 21 was identified as a potent and promising 5-HT4 receptor antagonist with moderate affinity for the AT1 receptor. The permeability of carboxylic acid 21 in a Caco-2 assay was low and the corresponding prodrug esters 23a–f were therefore prepared. The pharmacokinetics of methyl ester 20 and n-butyl ester 23c were evaluated in a rat model, revealing incomplete metabolism to carboxylic acid 21. However, methyl ester 20 is a potent 5-HT4 receptor antagonist with binding affinities in the low picomolar range. Methyl ester 20 has promising oral bioavailability and pharmacokinetics and may target 5-HT4 receptors in both CNS and peripheral organs. 相似文献

In Parkinson’s disease, the motor impairments are mainly caused by the death of dopaminergic neurons. Among the enzymes which are involved in the biosynthesis and catabolism of dopamine, monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) has been a therapeutic target of Parkinson’s disease. However, due to the undesirable adverse effects, development of alternative MAO-B inhibitors with greater optimal therapeutic potential towards Parkinson’s disease is urgently required. In this study, we designed and synthesized the oxazolopyridine and thiazolopyridine derivatives, and biologically evaluated their inhibitory activities against MAO-B. Structure–activity relationship study revealed that the piperidino group was the best choice for the R1 amino substituent to the oxazolopyridine core structure and the activities of the oxazolopyridines with various phenyl rings were between 267.1 and 889.5 nM in IC50 values. Interestingly, by replacement of the core structure from oxazolopyrine to thiazolopyridine, the activities were significantly improved and the compound 1n with the thiazolopyridine core structure showed the most potent activity with the IC50 value of 26.5 nM. Molecular docking study showed that van der Waals interaction in the human MAO-B active site could explain the enhanced inhibitory activities of thiazolopyridine derivatives. 相似文献
