A 25-year-old Uzbek male presented with right upper abdominal pain for 20 days. On radiologic studies, a huge cystic mass was noticed in the right liver which was suspected as parasitic. The patient received right hepatic segmentectomy (segment 7), and the surgically resected mass was confirmed as cystic echinococcosis (CE), measuring 10.5 cm in its diameter. The inner surface of the cyst was bile-stained. The patient was discharged on the 8th hospital day, and was rechecked 6 months after the surgical intervention without any evidence of recurrence. The present report describes findings of an imported case of CE which represented ultrasound images of the ''ball of wool''.  相似文献

Protein glycosylation, the most universal and diverse post-translational modification, can affect protein secretion, stability, and immunogenicity. The structures of glycans attached to proteins are quite diverse among different organisms and even within yeast species. In yeast, protein glycosylation plays key roles in the quality control of secretory proteins, and particularly in maintaining cell wall integrity. Moreover, in pathogenic yeasts, glycans assembled on cell-surface glycoproteins can mediate their interactions with host cells. Thus, a comprehensive understanding of protein glycosylation in various yeast species and defining glycan structure characteristics can provide useful information for their biotechnological and clinical implications. Yeast-specific glycans are a target for glyco-engineering; implementing human-type glycosylation pathways in yeast can aid the production of recombinant glycoproteins with therapeutic potential. The virulenceassociated glycans of pathogenic yeasts could be exploited as novel targets for antifungal agents. Nowadays, several glycomics techniques facilitate the generation of species-and strain-specific glycome profiles and the delineation of modified glycan structures in mutant and engineered yeast cells. Here, we present the protocols employed in our laboratory to investigate the N-and O-glycan chains released from purified glycoproteins or cell wall mannoproteins in several yeast species.  相似文献

An increase in the amount of nickel in LiMO2 (M = Ni, Co, Mn) layered system is actively pursued in lithium‐ion batteries to achieve higher capacity. Nevertheless, fundamental effects of Ni element in the three‐component layered system are not systematically studied. Therefore, to unravel the role of Ni as a major contributor to the structural and electrochemical properties of Ni‐rich materials, Co‐fixed LiNi0.5+xCo0.2Mn0.3–xO2 (x = 0, 0.1, and 0.2) layered materials are investigated. The results, on the basis of synchrotron‐based characterization techniques, present a decreasing trend of Ni2+ content in Li layer with increasing total Ni contents. Moreover, it is discovered that the chex.‐lattice parameter of layered system is not in close connection with the interslab thickness related to actual Li ion pathway. The interslab thickness increases with increasing Ni concentration even though the chex.‐lattice parameter decreases. Furthermore, the lithium ion pathway is preserved in spite of the fact that the c‐axis is collapsed at highly deintercalated states. Also, a higher Ni content material shows better structural properties such as larger interslab thickness, lower cation disorder, and smoother phase transition, resulting in better electrochemical properties including higher Li diffusivity and lower overpotential when comparing materials with lower Ni content.  相似文献

8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine (oh8dG) treatment induced senescence-like changes in KG-1 cells, a human acute myelocytic leukemia cell line. The oh8dG-treated cells stained positive for senescence associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-galactosidase) and had enlarged cell shape, both of which are senescence indexes. The oh8dG-treated cells were also cell growth inhibited and arrested at G1 in the cell cycle. The accumulation of cdk (cyclin dependent kinase) inhibitors, such as p16, p21, and p27, also implies that cellular senescence was induced in oh8dG-treated cells. However, these changes were not accompanied by cell differentiation or telomerase activity. Taken together, we conclude that oh8dG treatment of KG-1 cells induces cellular senescence.  相似文献

Human tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) is a trimeric protein consisting primarily of beta-sheet. GdnHCl-induced unfolding of TNF-alpha was investigated at room temperature by circular dichroism (CD) and size exclusion chromatography. The secondary and tertiary structure of TNF-alpha persisted up to 0.9N GdnHCl regardless of incubation time, but, in the range of 1.2 N to 2.1 N GdnHCl, there was loss of tertiary structure accompanied by the formation of an alpha-helix, as revealed by far- and near-UV CD spectra. The structural changes occurred gradually in 1.2 and 2.1 N GdnHCl, but were rapid in 1.5 and 1.8 N GdnHCl. The GdnHCl-induced state of TNF-alpha is an unfolded, alpha-helical aggregate of about 130 monomers, as shown by size exclusion chromatography. We suggest the most likely pathway for the transition from beta-sheet to alpha-helix.  相似文献
