The aim of the present study was to assess ultrasonography (US) for the detection of inflammatory and destructive changes in finger and toe joints, tendons, and entheses in patients with psoriasis-associated arthritis (PsA) by comparison with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), projection radiography (x-ray), and clinical findings. Fifteen patients with PsA, 5 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and 5 healthy control persons were examined by means of US, contrast-enhanced MRI, x-ray, and clinical assessment. Each joint of the 2nd–5th finger (metacarpophalangeal joints, proximal interphalangeal [PIP] joints, and distal interphalangeal [DIP] joints) and 1st–5th metatarsophalangeal joints of both hands and feet were assessed with US for the presence of synovitis, bone erosions, bone proliferations, and capsular/extracapsular power Doppler signal (only in the PIP joints). The 2nd–5th flexor and extensor tendons of the fingers were assessed for the presence of insertional changes and tenosynovitis. One hand was assessed by means of MRI for the aforementioned changes. X-rays of both hands and feet were assessed for bone erosions and proliferations. US was repeated in 8 persons by another ultrasonographer. US and MRI were more sensitive to inflammatory and destructive changes than x-ray and clinical examination, and US showed a good interobserver agreement for bone changes (median 96% absolute agreement) and lower interobserver agreement for inflammatory changes (median 92% absolute agreement). A high absolute agreement (85% to 100%) for all destructive changes and a more moderate absolute agreement (73% to 100%) for the inflammatory pathologies were found between US and MRI. US detected a higher frequency of DIP joint changes in the PsA patients compared with RA patients. In particular, bone changes were found exclusively in PsA DIP joints. Furthermore, bone proliferations were more common and tenosynovitis was less frequent in PsA than RA. For other pathologies, no disease-specific pattern was observed. US and MRI have major potential for improved examination of joints, tendons, and entheses in fingers and toes of patients with PsA.  相似文献

The Pythium biocontrol features of 17 Paenibacillus strains, all previously isolated from the rhizosphere, hyphosphere or bulk soil from mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal cucumber plants, were examined using a cucumber seedling emergence bioassay. Thirteen strains – four strains of Paenibacillus polymyxa, eight strains of P. macerans and one strain of Paenibacillus sp. – significantly increased the percentage of seedling emergence of seeds inoculated with agar plugs of Pythium aphanidermatum FC42. Overall, the efficacy of Pythium biocontrol did not seem to differ between isolates of Paenibacillus originating from either mycorrhizal or non-mycorrhizal systems. No strains significantly reduced the damping-off incidence caused by the aggressive isolate Pythium sp. B5. Two strains of P. macerans not only reduced the incidence of pre-emergence damping-off by 73%, but they also counteracted the plant growth-depressing effect of P. aphanidermatum FC42, so that 68–82% of the emerged seedlings remained healthy 7 days after sowing. Two strains of P. macerans and one strain of P. polymyxa also significantly increased the percentage of seedling emergence following inoculation with approximately 105 zoospores of P. aphanidermatum FC42. There was no significant difference between the dry weight of three selected bacteria-inoculated and -uninoculated plants in the absence of Pythium; however, the dry weight of bacteria-inoculated plants was significantly higher than that of the uninoculated control plants with bacteria in the presence of P. aphanidermatum FC42.  相似文献

Pedomicrobium sp. ACM 3067 is a budding-hyphal bacterium belonging to the alpha-Proteobacteria which is able to oxidize soluble Mn2+ to insoluble manganese oxide. A cosmid, from a whole-genome library, containing the putative genes responsible for manganese oxidation was identified and a primer-walking approach yielded 4350 bp of novel sequence. Analysis of this sequence showed the presence of a predicted three-gene operon, moxCBA. The moxA gene product showed homology to multicopper oxidases (MCOs) and contained the characteristic four copper-binding motifs (A, B, C and D) common to MCOs. An insertion mutation of moxA showed that this gene was essential for both manganese oxidation and laccase-like activity. The moxB gene product showed homology to a family of outer membrane proteins which are essential for Type I secretion in Gram-negative bacteria. moxBA has not been observed in other manganese-oxidizing bacteria but homologues were identified in the genomes of several bacteria including Sinorhizobium meliloti 1021 and Agrobacterium tumefaciens C58. These results suggest that moxBA and its homologues constitute a family of genes encoding an MCO and a predicted component of the Type I secretion system.  相似文献

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is a powerful tool in the study of the course of nerve fiber bundles in the human brain. Using DTI, the local fiber orientation in each image voxel can be described by a diffusion tensor which is constructed from local measurements of diffusion coefficients along several directions. The measured diffusion coefficients and thereby the diffusion tensors are subject to noise, leading to possibly flawed representations of the 3-dimensional (3D) fiber bundles. In this paper, we develop a Bayesian procedure for regularizing the diffusion tensor field, fully utilizing the available 3D information of fiber orientation. The use of the procedure is exemplified on synthetic and in vivo data.  相似文献
