Summary The apical cell coat of the olfactory epithelium proper and the vomeronasal neuroepithelium of the rat was investigated electronmicroscopically by means of the Ruthenium-red reaction. In the olfactory epithelium proper, the cilia of receptor cells and microvilli of supporting cells possess a cell coat measuring approximately 10 nm in thickness. In the vomeronasal neuroepithelium, the apical cell coat is thicker than in the olfactory epithelium proper. On microvilli of vomeronasal receptor cells the cell coat varies in thickness from 15 to 20 nm, and on microvilli of supporting cells it measures approximately 75 nm. (E)-5-(2-bromovinyl-2'-deoxyuridine) crystallizes in the space group P2(1) with a = 12.976(1), b = 4.800(1), c = 20.385(2) A, beta = 96.88(1) degrees, Z = (two molecules a and b in the asymmetric unit). The structure has been determined by the use of 2400 diffractometer reflexions and refined by least-squares to R of 0.053. Conformational features of both molecules a and b resemble those of thymidine. The ribofuranose rings assume the rare C(3')-exo form observed also in thymidine. Similarly, the torsion angles around the glycosidic bonds (mean = 40(1) and 56(1) degrees fall in the anti range. In each molecule the best plane of the 2-bromovinyl moiety is bent out of the least-squares plane of the pyrimidine base by 6 degrees, so that the positively charged C(8)-H(8) group can donate an intramolecular hydrogen bond to 0(4) atom. Eight strong and weak intermolecular hydrogen bridges are built up between the symmetry independent and related molecules forming a complicated three dimensional hydrogen bond network. 相似文献

Summary We have described some characteristics of Lolium multiflorum cultivated under very short photoperiods (2 hours and 1 hour). The estimations of leaf growth were based on dry weight, surface measurements, and chlorophyll content. The pigment analyses were carried out by column chromatography; chloroplast ultrastructure was observed after chemical fixation.These measurements have permitted us to note a sharp drop in the growth curve of plants grown under different day-lengths: the limiting photoperiod lies between 1 hour and 2 hours of daily illumination.Pigment analyses and chloroplast ultrastructure observations show that there is a greater difference between plants cultivated under 1 hour and 2 hours of daily illumination than between plants cultivated under 2 hours and 12 hours.A decrease in day-length causes a deficit in the chlorophyll b content as well as a poor development of the grana.We have attempted to correlate these structural anomalies with the abnormal chlorophyll a/chlorophyll b ratio. 相似文献

A critical survey is made of human mycoses diagnosed in European Portugal and in the Portuguese Overseas Provinces. Dermatophyte infections and pityriasis versicolor are commom in the entire territory. The more frequently isolated dermatophytes in Continental Portugal wereTrichophyton violaceum, Microsporum canis, Trichophyton tonsurans andTrichophyton schoenleinii, in the scalp andTrichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton megninii andEpidermophyton floccosum in the other body sites. In the Overseas Provinces the species found in white people were very much the same, whereas in negroes mainlyMicrosporum audouinii andT. violaceum in Mozambique,M. audouinii in Angola, andTrichophyton soudanense, M. audouinii andT. rubrum in Guinea were identified.In Continental Portugal cases of candidiasis, mycetoma, aspergillosis, sporotrichosis and cryptococcosis were described in patients who had never been outside Europe; and tinea nigra, African histoplasmosis and South-American blastomycosis in individuals who live or lived in India, Africa and Brazil.The first case of North-American blastomycosis was reported in Mozambique. 相似文献

A nuclease from N. crassa has been prepared to the hydroxylapatite stage of purification described by Rabin and Fraser (1). It degrades single stranded DNA in an essentially exonucleolytic process.
