Aphidius matricariae Haliday (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is a polyphagous solitary endoparasitoid, attacking more than 40 species of aphids. This parasitoid is an important commercial product of many companies that produce biological control agents. Storage at low temperature increases the shelf life of many biocontrol agents, allowing companies to provide a steady and sufficient supply of insects for biocontrol programs. In the current study, the effects of cold storage of 1-day-old host mummies with A. matricariae for various time periods (5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 days) at 5 °C on the parasitoid’s key life-history traits were investigated. Parameters assessed after storage included adult emergence rate, offspring sex ratio, adult longevity, oviposition period, fecundity, and life-table parameters (R0, r, λ, T, and DT). Our results showed that the mummies of A. matricariae could be stored at 5 °C for 5 days without loss of quality and for 10–15 days with minimal reduction in quality (e.g., some reduction in adult longevity and R0). If parasitoids were stored for >15 days, quality was more strongly affected. In conclusion, A. matricariae pupae could be stored at 5 °C for up to 15 days without significant negative post-storage effects on fitness of the parasitoid. These results could be used to improve the planning of mass rearing and mass release of A. matricariae in augmentative biological control programs. 相似文献

An early and accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has been progressively attracting more attention in recent years. One of the main problems of AD is the loss of language skills. This paper presents a computational framework for classifying AD patients compared to healthy control subjects using information from spontaneous speech signals. Spontaneous speech data are obtained from 30 AD patients and 30 healthy controls. Because of the nonlinear and dynamic nature of speech signals, higher order spectral features (specifically bispectrum) were used for analysis. Four classifiers (k-Nearest Neighbor, Support Vector Machine, Naïve Bayes and Decision tree) were used to classify subjects into three different levels of AD and healthy group based on their performance in terms of the HOS-based features. Ten-fold cross-validation method was used to test the reliability of the classifier results. The results showed that the proposed method had a good potential in AD diagnosis. The proposed method was also able to diagnose the earliest stage of AD with high accuracy. The method has the great advantage of being non-invasive, cost-effective, and associated with no side effects. Therefore, the proposed method can be a spontaneous speech directed test for pre-clinical evaluation of AD diagnosis. 相似文献

Abstract Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a bipartite toxin that plays an important role in the pathogenesis of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Recent clinical data suggest a correlation between PVL and severe cases of S. aureus pneumonia. A clear understanding of the structure and function of PVL is critical to the development of novel, effective treatments. Exposure to arsenic has been linked to the development of type 2 diabetes though its mechanism of toxicity remains unresolved. In this study berberine (BBR) effects on arsenic‐induced sirtuin 3 (Sirt3) modifications in isolated mitochondria from rat pancreas were evaluated and compared with metformin (MET). With arsenic, mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS), oxidative stress, and insulin resistance were obtained higher than control. From our results and in the presence of arsenic trioxide, insulin resistance and Sirt3 levels were found to be predominantly elevated that could be the result of compensating mechanisms. Apparently, BBR and MET recruit both direct (as an antioxidant) and indirect mechanisms (Sirt3 content) to deal with arsenic trioxide toxicity. Metformin compared with BBR exhibited a less significant effect on ROS levels and since its direct antioxidant property is minor, depressed the ROS level mainly through the Sirt3 modification. 相似文献

Defect free mats containing a cationic polysaccharide, chitosan derivative such as N-[(2-hydroxy-3-trimethylammonium)propyl] chitosan chloride (HTCC), have been prepared using electrospinning of an aqueous solution of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-HTCC blends. HTCC, a water-soluble derivative of chitosan, was synthesized via the reaction between glycidyl-trimethylammonium chloride and chitosan. Solutions of PVA-HTCC Blends were electrospun. The morphology, diameter and structure of the produced electrospun nanofibres were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The average fibre diameter was in the range of 200-600 nm. SEM images showed that the morphology and diameter of the nanofibres were mainly affected by weight ratio of the blend and applied voltage. The results revealed that increasing HTCC content in the blends decreases the average fibre diameter. These observations were discussed on the basis of shear viscosities and conductivities of the spinning solutions. Microbiological assessment showed that the PVA-HTCC mats have a good antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, and Gram-negative bacteria, Escherichia coli. 相似文献
